I had Savagery on my Lunar Crescent but went to Mongoose on my Mooncleaver and am happy so far. Unbuffed, I have 1600 attack power so I'm not hurting that much and thought increased crit and the haste benefits might help more.
In battle stance, I sit atm at 32.16% crit so with some buffs and zerker stance and when it procs (and it does seem to proc often even on a 2hander), It's pretty easy to get 40% crit. My damage has indeed gone up since the patch but there's a number of reasons (glancing blows, some new gear, upgraded axe, improved stats on old gear).
So, I'd say if you have a decent amount of attack power and can deal with the loss of 70, Mongoose is a viable alternative.
Though for pure 2on2, 3on3, I'd go with Savagery then rely on a proc in shorter matches.
