well you're forgetting about one thing - you can't get the 4piece bonus until you actually wear 4 pieces of the new set. If you spread your points between the old set and the new set, or the new set and a weapon, you'll delay that important 4piece bonus by a few weeks
personally I'm debating whether or not to buy a new 2hander when the new season starts. I just know kael will drop his sword or Teron will drop his mace or axe the same week I drop the points on a weapon
