The rogue you quoted was also using the fact that he never missed on trash as grounds for not needing more +hit rating. While killing trash efficiently is nice and can create faster re-clears when necessary, the most important thing in all situations that I can think of is maximizing your DPS on a level 73 raid boss. That being said, ignore your friend and heed the advice of others here.
