I wonder if it was lazy coding or intended for some strange purpose. Having the copper represented by one long results in a number thats way too high to crack down on gold farming, as its already around $40000 worth for one character, and yet still low enough to have people hit the ceiling (rarely, but they had to see if people had 100,000 gold in the BWL days it'd be hit one day easily enough)
Just seems odd, I can see either an int (for security purposes) or a long long (for a truly unreachable ceiling) but /shrug
