Alchemy has made me my money, or more precisely, herbalism did.
I don't know if its my server, but the price of every outland herb was at least 1g per, often closer to 2 for netherbloom/vine/mana thistle.
The conversion of herbs into potions, of course, netted me very little in money, if anything, but I still do it for the discoveries.
Haste potions are my major cash source from the profession now.
