I 2-box and have leveled my alt like that. There are 4 basic methods to level:
Solo lvl. Let's say at lvl 30 a typical mob will give you 160xp, and take you 10secs to kill.
Group with a 70 dpser. You can 1 shot the mob, but the alt gets almost no xp, something like 24xp in this case. This is only going to be useful if you have tons of mobs nearby, such as instance AoE runs.
Have the 70 dps outside the group, shoot with the alt 1st to get the first dmg in, then 1 shot the mob with the 70. This is an interesting case, because I used to do that and it would give me full xp in the past, but it doesn't work anymore, in the present case you'd get maybe 24xp, so I have to assume that was changed.
Go solo but have a healer on auto follow outside the group. You get full xp for the alt since the healer isn't attacking it, but you have no down time since you're always healed. This is the best and fastest way out of these 4 methods. Note that a priest renew will be more than enough, with each tick healing more than 50% of the alt hp, at any lvl up to 40+.
