Oh, yes. Sprockets! I loved it and miss it every day. It was quick, flexible and saved tons of space. I would love to see it back in action.
Currently I use
Geist as a substitute to minimize the button clutter on my screen, but it isn't the same at all.

Two other mods which -may- be questionable comments in this thread: Clique and PerfectRaid. The absolutely minimal display footprint of PR gives it honorable mention, giving basically all the info of grid in a very slim and easy to glance at for info. Each to their own and most probably see it as not that useful, but for me (with my 17" monitor- don't ask) it absolutely changed the level of data I could access, and with speed.

I used PR for a long time (until the long break the author took with 2.0) and it was (and still is) great, but I found Grid to suit my playstyle even more.
