Some feedback since my last post (see page 6 of this thread).
Just at the right time, we had a group application from a bunch of skilled raiders. Over night, we went from having 15 'hardcore raiders' to closer to 25, and the effect on our raids has been signficantly positive. On most raid nights, we only have 1-2 weaker raiders and the results show in our raid progress: Leotheras, Void Reaver (yes, I know we should have been trying him ealier) and Morogrim all down in the last 4 weeks. Remember we dont use guides and only raid 3 times per week, so learning takes a bit longer. We one shot Mag, Hydross and Lurker just about every single time now.
Not only has the influx of better raiders had a direct impact on our raids, but the other raiders are forced to improve or will continue to be left on the sidelines. People who were middle of the road dps'ers are suddenly top of the pops.
We have also started to enforce minimum raid attendance - those than dont attend regularly (withought good reason of course), dont get to raid unless we are short.
The moral of the story for us? If you are stuck with a large proportion of less skilled raiders, then you will be stuck on raiding progress. Get some more skilled raiders - hopefully through new applications, since doing it organically is very very difficult (as history has taught us) - and things will change. If you are lucky enough to attract applications, then you better have a good story to sell and you better be able to backup what you can promise the new guys. In all respects, its worked out exceedingly well for everyone concerned.....our guild is humming along nicely, spirit is great and the new guys love the place.
