I live in australia and have "Bigpond Cable eXtreme" which boasts anything from 4-8mbps. I can achieve a total incoming bandwidth of around these figures, so it seems quite accurate.
However, I still, compared to my old 512kbps ADSL connection, have a ping that ranges between 300-800ms and is usually 400-600ms.

I have concluded that either one of the 'hops' on the way to the server has limited speed. Or the WoW servers themselves limit the speeds of us aussies to make the server run smoother...

I recently moved from Skywall (US) to Barthilas (Oceanic). I didn't transfer.
I was expecting a better latency. On my first character, i was talking to a GM because i had some gold in the mail that my mate had sent me, but i couldn't see it in the mail (unread mail icon was attatched to the minimap). But anyways, i'll get to the point. I was having a talk with the GM after he fixed my problem and he said that blizzard was looking for employees, so I asked if i could work from home or if i would have to go to a workplace. He answered, "We operate in ________ which is where this server, and many more, are located." Something along those lines anyway, (I can't remember the exact place he mentioned, but it was in america)

The reason that i switched servers is that i wanted to PvP more, because of my busy schedule and lack of time for raiding, so I chose an oceanic PvP server where I expected to have a more PvP friendly latency. However this was not the case and i'm going to be back to a mix of casual PvE and PvP. Unfortunately Prot is no good for PvP and PvP is no good for Prot. :'(
