A hint of direction would be greatly appreciated. What gear should I concentrate on getting right now that I have access to? Kara, Mag, Gruul runs are easily doable via PUGs which are run nightly on my server. I have a top server tank who is willing to run Heroics for me and I believe I may be able to get some normal ZA runs in, though timed events wouldn't be feasible due to my DPS not being sufficient to participate.
I've passed on the T4 helm out of Kara time and time again because I've been told it doesn't compare to the spellstrike set and I can see where that's true. But after reading here I've considered getting it for the meta gem socket and putting a [Mystical Skyfire Diamond] in it. |
I haven't done a lot of gear checking at this gear level, so I'll tell you that the best gear advice you can get is to get Rawr and do your own investigating. I'd suggest waiting till this afternoon, since the 14.1 release scheduled today fixes a fairly major bug in the mage module.
As for where to start, I'd recommend running Heroic Magister's for the
[Fel-tinged Mantle] and
[Scarlet Sin'dorei Robes]. The
[Belt of Blasting] replaces your girdle. For gloves,
[Gloves of Arcane Acuity] of Kael in normal Magister's or
[Studious Wraps] (badges) are likely to be closest to spellfire. For badges, the
[Fetish of the Primal Gods] and
[Carved Witch Doctor's Stick] are excellent.
For gems/enchants, resocket your gear with
[Veiled Noble Topaz] and hit +dam socket bonuses with
[Glowing Nightseye]. This should pull up your +hit to be close to the cap. If you're 1-2 under the cap, I wouldn't resocket to hit the cap, if you're more than 2 down, however, socketing a VNT over RLR is the best option. The MSD has been nerfed again in 2.4 and is now pretty much worthless. The
[Chaotic Skyfire Diamond] is the only meta worth socketing. Enchant your gloves and bracers with +dam and get the hit somewhere else on your gear.
You're still likely to get questions about being a 375 tailor and not in spellfire, but at least you can make a survivability argument. The "I didn't want to put in the effort to farm it" doesn't really app well. As far as getting in on ZA speed runs, you're not going to get in on an attempt to get a bear, but my guild regularly clears 3 timed events with mages around 1100 +dam (which you'd be close to with spellfire).
