We got our first kill last night without bothering with any of this, so this is to some degree a moot point for us. But I wouldn't mind anything we can do to improve stability.
EDIT: For some reason I thought ES was 70% non-pushback, but you're right, it's only 30%. My mistake, and that does change the picture a bit.
Sure, the tick damage can be healed up, and 90% of the time it's not a problem. But occasionally you get an encaps followed by a nova in quick succession, or vice versa, and if you can make a little more margin for error in those kinds of situations you can sometimes avoid a wipe. If nothing else, you can save the mana required to heal up a tick, which is nice given how mana-strained the raid healers tend to be on this fight.

The nature damage aura does not provide spell pushback. The initial tick of the GN does-but, it still shouldn't mean that you don't get a MD off in time to get rid of the second tick of damage (and the first tick of the 3k/1k burns).
The *only* reason to not be able to snag that is massive lag or being on GCD due to a very early or very late GN, as it's not terribly predictable.
There's just not really any reason to *ever* take a tick of MD. Have your shadow priests put on more haste gear than usual if they have an alternate set, as they're just sitting there waiting for GN a lot of the time in P1 anyways. If you're having trouble dispelling the GNs, it's because your priests' reaction times aren't good enough to cast MD in time, or they were on GCD, as mentioned earlier. You have 3.5s to cast a 1.5s cast (without haste, which most of your priests have a decent amount of by this point in time). Yes, we have to account for lag, spell pushback, and reaction time, but there aren't a whole lot of reasons to ever take one of those 3k/1k ticks of damage.
In any case-it isn't possible to avoid the spell pushback with ES anyways, and even if it was, it isn't worth the micromanagement. Tell your priests to dispell better. Put on more haste gear if they're just a split second too late. Saving 3k damage to a group is definitely worth whatever other stats they are sacrificing.
