Paladin Talent Change Suggestions

Posted 02/12/09 at 7:01 PM by XI-
Holy Paladins are currently among the most overrepresented classes in arena, and I think a lot of it is due to the tremendous utility they can get with a minimal investment in Ret. The top of the tree is simply too strong.
So here's a few changes that should balance this out while providing minimal different for Ret and Prot specs.

-Judgements of the Wise to Tier 9, taking the place of Swift Retribution.
-Divine Purpose to Tier 7, taking the place of Judgements of the Wise.
-Swift Retribution moved to Tier 5 where Divine Purpose was.
-Conviction moved to Tier 5, and swaps places with 2 Handed Weapon spec.

I might edit this or add more later, but this should be a good start to pushing Holy Paladins to explore more points or Holy or Picking up some points in Prot instead of always going into Ret. It also should serve to scale back some of the more potent Holy PvP builds like 49/0/22 and 37/0/34.

Looks like a wish list to me! Infract!!

Also, this is somewhat irrelevant to you, but you do have to consider the impact that switching those trees around has on ret levelling builds.

Not that I think balance should be based around leveling, but it will basically have no change. The biggest drain on paladin mana while leveling comes from 3 skills, refreshing your seal (which is being changed to 30mins so it won't matter), divine storm, and hammer of wrath. HoW isn't that useful because your other skills do a similar amount of damage, and it costs a lot of mana. You really don't use it even with the current mechanics unless you're fighting an elite. You'd have JotW before you got Divine Storm, and immediately after you picked up crusader strike which is your only other active mana consuming ability other than your very cheap judgement.

You can cast HoW for free with the glyph (currently one of the correct PvE glyphs to use). I would get that second after Judgement glyph.

Making JotW would slow levelers a bit, but it would help Arenas a lot, so I can see
-Judgements of the Wise to Tier 9, taking the place of Swift Retribution
being fair.

But don't like the other ones, I am a 49/0/22 Arena pally .

Definitely move Judgements of the Wise. However, I don't even think 49/0/22 is a problem anymore. It got a lot of attention earlier on but you see most top Paladins going 37/0/34 in the smaller brackets and 51(53)/0/20(18) in 5s (and possibly for some 3s comps) due to Imp HoJ and Divine Guardian. They could also nerf the 49/0/22 build by just not making Hand of Freedom castable while the paladin is stunned.

Not making Hand of Freedom castable while the paladin is stunned would make me sad. I enjoy removing stuns on myself without using trinket.

if hof was not castable during stun it would almost be a completely worthless talent
