15/$15/15 Icyr <Collective Ego> - Warlock
A couple of e-friends have been around the block a time or two and of course some of them have also re-rolled and swapped factions. Icyr is one of them. Hilarious on vent, brutally honest and an aspiring musician I've sent him the dreaded 15 questions. On a quest to chat with some PvPers he was a pick that was "close to home."
(For those of you playing/waiting at home the Horde Warrior spot has been filled, but my questions haven't all been answered yet.)
In-game:
1. Why did you choose the Warlock class? Did you play another class first?
When a friend gave me this game for my birthday 4 godforsaken years ago, my first inclination was to roll Rogue. Before I did, though, the friend that got me into it told me that there were too many rogues and that it would be easier to get a spot if I chose something else. Then I clicked on the purple hand, and I've been one ever since.
2. What has been your favorite boss fight while leveling and at the level cap? I know PvE isn't your forte, if you have a favorite Arena or comp (that's an actual challenge) could you explain those?
Rag was a damn epic fight. That was probably my favorite time in raiding. Specifically, I can recall one night that was going especially awful for a farm night and we were wiping on him for whatever reason. On I think the third attempt, everyone died and it was about to be a 1% wipe when the paladin friend of mine I had soulstoned pops back up. He bubbles and 1v1's the boss to death. Would have been better as a first kill, but it was awesome nonetheless.
I will say I do like the 10 man aspect of raiding now, though. It allows you to raid with only people you like, rather than trying to herd 40 retards in the right direction.
3. How's Cho'gall (or Bro'gall as you called it)? You've also made the switch from a fairly small PvP server and from a less challenging Battlegroup from what I've heard and seen.
I love Bro'gall so much more than I'll ever love Detheroc. One of the interesting things about the server for me is that the pvp guild (scripted pvp, Collective Ego, whatever you know it as) is basically like its own server. I don't really do much with anyone outside the guild, nor do I need to. Much of the interaction between everyone in the guild either stays within or is confined to people who were at least in the guild at some point. Also, going to a server/battlegroup where you actually recognize more than one or two GOOD teams queuing at the same time makes all of arena far more fun.
4. What keeps you playing? What was your WoTLK release night like?
The people I arena with keep me playing--the consistent partners I have, and the small group of people that I can use as "potential" partners. Daerlan/Dangly, Sykeasaurus, Atariz, Sodah, Toez, Sirian--these guys are the only reason I'm still going.
WotLK release night I wasn't even online, nor had I bought the expansion. I was over at some friends' house getting drunk ^_^
5. If you could change one thing realistically in-game what would it be?
Right now all of my "change this" ideas are confined to arena, and are fairly egocentric. The two new arenas just need to go--I don't really know anyone at all who likes them or thinks they can ever be balanced. From my own class point of view, pets are shit. Since voidwalkers can be dumped on as fast as felhunters after their pve health nerf, we either need a new active or passive ability to keep them alive or the classes that absolutely shit on them need to be changed.
6. Briefly describe your feelings/opinions towards new PvP changes regarding Arenas and the state of Arenas in general.
My catchphrase for the last few months has been ~Season 6~ ~Real PvP~
In case you don't know me, it's sarcastic as hell. While I think the port ability I got at 80 improves gameplay and skill cap for myself and the warlock class, so much focus in arena in general right now is put on raw damage rather than CC and line-ups. Even the age-old "skill comp" of RMP is reduced to the simplicity of trying to 100%-0% something in a matter of seconds. Sure, you can still pick out the good players from the bad ones, but they're not always the ones who are winning. Trying to play too intelligently can lose you games these days.
7. What is/was one of your biggest noob moments in WoW?
My first day I misunderstood what the spirit healer was telling me about durability. I was thought it meant that you wouldn't ever take durability until you died, so I assumed dying was realy, really, really really, really bad. The first time I died at like level 4 I deleted my warlock and made a new one. Then one of my friends called me retarded and to never do that again.
8. What tips can you give those trying to start in Arenas or get back into Arenas?
Learn every class' abilities and know them by heart. This is going back to Pokemon, and the memory of knowing what everything can do is crucial. Arena is just glorified chess--there's always something different you can do as long as you know what all of your options are. Blame yourself for every loss and think of what you could have done differently, then make sure you actually do it. Try unexpected things too...surprising your opponent by trinketing the sap or doing something otherwise stupid as hell can work if they don't see it coming.
9. Have you been into Ulduar much? If so what are your thoughts?
PvE will always be fairly similar, but they did a good job on Ulduar. There's more variety and options than they've put into any instance in the past, and I can appreciate that. It's enjoyable and looks great, and that's all you can really ask for in an instance.
10. Have you ever had a piece of loot that's eluded you or your guild?
Neltharion's Tear. I made a deal with another warlock in BWL gear that he could have the staff and the robes if I could get that trinket. Both of the others dropped...my damned Tear never did. Ever.
Out of Game:
11. What is your favorite TV show? Movie?
I love me some House. Movies: Catch Me If You Can, Van Wilder, Super Troopers, Office Space, Boondock Saints.
12. What is your favorite sport to watch and/or play and/or athlete?
I'm a martial arts guy. It's the most fun for me to both do and watch.
13. If you could date any person who would you pick and why?
Alessandra Ambrosio is the hottest woman alive.
14. Do you have any other hobbies or passions? Represent your band here!
I've been teaching myself how to make synthesizer music over the last few months. I've been doing music all my life, but just recently started trying to write it. I'm strictly "ok" at it for the time being. Here's an example of my biggest success so far. YouTube - Suspended
15. I know you want pizza. Favorite type/toppings?
I love Hawaiin topped pizza. Can't ever turn away pepperoni if I'm sticking to the basics though.
