On Desks
What do you need to play in arena, to give it your best? Is it the current flavor of the month (FotM) team? A PvP spec? 450 resilience? Actually, what you likely need most is a computer and a quiet room.
We've all heard THAT guy on vent. Dogs barking in the background, a wife and 3 kids knocking on his door, every time he speaks you hear a tall rumble of beer bottles collapse in the background. Or maybe it's the little kid that always has to run to answer his mother, do the dishes, or feed his pet hamster, while trying to do Arena. While there is nothing particularly wrong with those people, they aren't creating a correct environment needed in order to concentrate on doing well. I think this advice applies to doing well anywhere, but it is just as important to doing well in arena.
First of all, make sure you are actually ready to sit down and give a good hour or so solely to the game. If you just got back from work/school, woke up, finished running a marathon – you won't concentrate well. The same basics as those for a good work or study environment apply: Ample lighting, lack of noise, no chance for interruption: mute cellphones, alarms [1]. Turn off or configure correctly everything that might interrupt you on the computer, including virus scanners, instant messengers, automatic updates, etc. If you are playing on ventrillo try to be in a passworded channel where no one would burst in and scream 'wassup'.
Your desk had ought to be organized. If we had a yearbook picture of graduating computer desks, it would look something like this:
Spot 15 differences in the pictures.
As a rule of thumb I always start arena by cleaning my desk from books and loose socks. But of course the most important concentration happens in your head. You can't go into arena not expecting to win. But you can't go in arena not expecting to learn. Keep participating in the arms race, keep improving your playstyle and your concentration.

Any desk that involves cleaning a book by Banks off of is not a desk I want to sit at. Just saying.
