I might be making a PvP movie! 5 minute preview

Posted 02/18/09 at 8:59 AM by Yes
Hi guys. I am not dead and buried yet. I've been working on a new substantial article for this blog for some time now, I just haven't posted it because I am not happy with it yet. It will be about cognitive psychology and arena.

Also, I tried my hand at making a small PvP clip --

The download quality is nicer.

Also, if you might notice, I turned on all my settings to the max (Including shadows, highlights, specular lightning, etc). This is not because I bought a new computer but because I correctly installed a new video card driver.

To do it correctly on windows XP:
Download new driver
Right click my computer
click Hardware Tab
Click Device manager
Find your video card under Display adapters.
Right click Properties.
Hit Driver Tab
Hit uninstall
Restart computer after it uninstalls.
Click cancel if it prompts to install a new driver.
Run the new driver installation package.

This is some sick editing, I really can't wait for the rest of the movie.

Nice fights, shows druids still pack a punch in arena. However the end with the 2 rogues who obviously are clueless wasn't much fun.

Nice movie, but i think it suffers from the same thing most PvP videos suffer from - with so many instant spells and abilities it's very hard to see many of the spells being cast. (assuming you intend the video to be an educational/instructional thing and not just entertainment)

The only way around this I can think of is to use an addon to clearly display every successful cast on the screen somewhere, solely for the benefit of the viewer. I'm sure there are a couple of addons that can do this, but the one I think probably works best is Ghost Pulse. Instead of setting it to display cooldowns, set it to display player spell casts.

Here:
YouTube - Ghost Pulse Addon
is an example of what i mean. Without the big icons flashing below my lock, the viewer would be largely guessing what DoTs I cast and in what order. Only DoTs/spells with a very obvious spell effect (like CoA) can be detected by the viewer. Some things (deathcoil, drain life etc) are ofc extremely obvious.

I would love to have better visibility of what spells you are casting and when in your vid.

PS - i can't wait for your cognitive psychology and arena article :-)
