5k weekend 2/28

Posted 03/02/09 at 1:14 PM by Derrek
I made 5k gold this weekend, which is pretty impressive given the HUGE opportunity that showed up (which I haven't capitialized on, yet).

Somebody on the AH dumped 200 Stacks of ore on the AH for 15g / stack. It normally dips down to 18-19g on the weekends, drifting back up to 20g/stack by Tuesday. It may have been more than 200 stacks, that's just how much I bought. Yup, 200 stacks or 3k gold, 4000 ore. I now have about 2 stacks of each uncut rare gem. I have put a few on the AH, but I am saving them for 3.1 / weekdays.

Ore - 3.5k total spent this weekend.
Gems - 1k gained
Crafting mats for DE fodder - 500g spent
Enchanting - 3k gained
Jewelry - 1k gained (down due to competition)
herbs - 1k spent
glyphs - 2k gained
snowfall ink - 2k gained
buy low / sell high opportunities - 1k gained

10k gained - 5k spent = 5k weekend, with 2 stacks of each rare gem left over and about 50 items left to DE.

Gold total overing around 21k. (Most big spends over until Uldar)

Derrek,

I am definitely interested in making dough from the AH (I get the feeling that my server is full of opportunities aka not the brightest bunch). Do you use a specific add-on to keep track of pricing, etc.?) Also, do you track your gains / spending yourself or do you have an addon that assists with this also?

Thank you in advance,
Tarm

I use the auctioneer addon (and its subparts) quite a bit. You have to be aware of what auctioneer does, or you can lose a fair amount of gold.

Auctioneer records what auctions are POSTED for and keeps a set of statistics surrounding that. It shows how much costs are deviating from those statistics.

So, if I post a broken sword for 10g every day for a week, those who solely rely upon auctioneer will see it's average price as 10g. If I then post a broken sword for 4g, then the autioneer will show that the broken sword is being sold at a huge discount! Man, what a bargin! Auctioneer will probably even suggest to its users that they can pick up that broken sword and sell it for 10g.

Although, it never did sell at 10g... I was just scamming the auctioneer users to buy my broken sword for 4g.

So, if a price seems a bit weird, be wary.

For tracking sales, I used to use AuctionFu, but am now using another addon (MoneyFu??), as the former is no longer produced. I care only about gold in aggregate from this, as auctioneer can give me detailed buying and selling of specific items if needed. The addon tracks only gold spent / gold gained across my entire account. This morning looked like:
gained this session: 842g 20s 42c
spent this session: 4g 10s 20c
Net gain this session: 838g 10s 22c

gained today: 2354g 42s 10c
spent today: 3841g 20s 0c
Net gain today: (1486g 77s 90c)

It also shows a rolling week average.

(This was my activity for 30m this morning. Check alts, reposted sales, purchased 2000 herbs and 1500 ore... I have about 60m of crafting to do from my purchases over the past 3-4 days.)

I do utilize specific alts for specific markets. I have a lvl1 Inscription seller who just buys herbs and sells inscriptions / inks / cards. I also have an enchantment / epic / high-low seller as well, who purchases ore for me. I start posting gems on my main, moving unsolds to my enchantment/epic/high-low alt for resale.

I try not to sell too much on my main, because tells asking to "lower X or cut Y for them, oh and immediately to Ogrimmar!" are very annoying; and I won't interrupt my time for them.... that's what the AH is for.

Oh yes, let me drop what I'm doing, go to the city where you're at so I can sell my X for less or get that 5-10g for a cut! I don't understand why people do this. If you can make 250g/hour grinding, the amount of time to hook up, lower your sale, etc will probably take 10m or 40g of grinding... all so you can get what, 5g? I personally only cut gems for guildies (for free). Why should I accept only 5-10g for that 1500g pattern I purchased or bought with tokens for 450g (3 daily tokens, Dragon Eye's sell for 150g each, so 450g is the 'cost' of those patterns). Do you really expect to /2 cut ~50-75 gems for 5-10g a cut to make back the 3 Dragon Eyes you could have sold? There's a reason I have very, very few forest emerald cuts. I'd never make back my investment.
