9k weekend 3/8

AH raiding is churning along. Pulled 9k this weekend net:

Ore: spent 1k
Gems: sold 2k (now have 2-3 stacks of each rare gem for 3.1)
Herbs: spent 500g (expensive this weekend)
Inscription: sold 2.5k (used up a lot of stored ink)
Snowfall ink: sold 3k
Jewelry: sold 2k
crafting mats: spent 1k
Enchantments: sold 2k

I'm beginning to stockpile ink for 3.1 dual spec rush. I don't expect the rush to be huge, however. I'm certain the 'average' player won't dual spec as 1k gold will seem too expensive. Most people who respec a lot now also rotate between 3 or more specs, rather than just 2. The initial rush will increase prices however, and I intend to meet that demand.

Rare gem prices are starting to get depressing. I'm seriously considering not cutting any more forest emeralds, selling them raw instead.

Current gold total now hovering in the mid 30s. I have around 300 active auctions ranging from 4.5 to 2.5k gold. Most are in the 20-25g range.

3/15 Report

6k earned this weekend. I was only able to visit AH three times this weekend due to RL. During those visits, I did notice that someone is undercutting jewelry hard. Normally, the weekend sells around 4-10 'blue' tanking rings @250-300g each. Someone is selling them for 110g each. With current material costs, the profit margin is only 10-15% for that price. I'm not willing to spend the time and risk for a 10-15% return. I'll monitor the market, but I'm not diving down that low. I've still pulled in the gravy 300g/ring for quite some time. I knew the gravy would end, and it has.

Forest emerald undercutting is insane. There are 3-5 cuts with value above 10g, while the remainder is barely above vendor prices. (I actually could have bought a dozen cut gems for the vendor for a few silver of profit.)

Ore: spent 0g
Gems: sold 1k (now have 3-4 stacks of each rare gem for 3.1)
Herbs: spent 500g (didn't log in during normal farmer posting time)
Inscription: sold 3.5k (A big market player didn't post this weekend, if they're out then I'll need to increase production... I doubt they're out.)
Jewelry: sold 1k
crafting mats: spent 0g
Enchantments: sold 1k

Mainly just sold off stock this weekend. Mother was in town so I didn't logg on very much at all; only 3 30m increments.

gold total now in the 45-50k range. Am now 1 month after deciding to raid the AH again. (Starting gold total was 4k) I see the 15k/week AH clip as sustainable. Although it will go higher once I stop storing up gem for 3.1. (100 scarlet rubies saved so far, with all 'big' cuts learned) Final weekly income will probably be 20k/week, gradually declining until 3.1 goes live. Judging by my SW preparation (and having saved more than that release), I should pull around 60-75k over first one or two weeks after patch.

3/22 report

Been on a business trip (and getting ready to be gone for a week) but here is what I was able to do over a very busy weekend. (RL)

Ore: spent 1k (all at -20% of what I normally buy for. Getting harder to control ore prices, decided to start selling some gems)
Gems: sold 2k (forest emeralds are barely above vendor, atm)
Herbs: spent 2k (Some very, very cheap herbs @14g/stack got posted. I bought them all... may arbitrage some at 21g/stack)
Inscription: sold 4k
Jewelry: sold 3k (Undercutter was gone, only to return later in the week... must've been spring break.)
crafting mats: spent 1k
Enchantments: sold 2k (I am acumulating a large backlog of mats. I have about 30stacks of infinite dust alone just waiting for 3.1)

For just over 10k gold for the weekend. My gold total is now in the mid 60s.

4/12 report

RL trip with the family to Disney. And I've been lazy while waiting for 3.1.. have tons of mats ready for milling/prospecting (at least 100 stacks) and I've just been waiting. Totals for this report are cummulative since 3/22. I have also added Alchemy as an industry, as material costs have been falling and elixir prices have not.

Ore: spent 1k (Ore has happily been above 20g for awhile)
Gems: Sold 3k
Herbs: spend 2k (added alchemy industry)
Inscription: sold 10k
Alchemy: sold 3k
Jewelry: Sold 3k
crafting mats: spent 1k
Enchantments: sold 2k
Traveler's Mount: spent 16k
Reputation cloth: spent 1k

gold total remains in the mid 60s, but I have my traveler's mount and exalted with 2 factions (almost 3). (My toon is a reroll)

3.1 Patch day.

Realms opened late, which didn't affect me much as I have kids to get to bed before logon. I had time to hop on only 1 alt before spending the evening raiding.

Inscription sold 12k today. I posted 100+ more glyphs before going to bed, and didn't have the opportunity this morning to see how they did, as the TBC world server on my realm was down. I made 150 more glyphs (for around 300 total made in the past 24hrs) before heading into work. I have enough mats to make around 500 more glyphs before purchasing anything off of the AH. If herb prices skyrocket in 2-4 days I may sell some. I'm expecting another rush of glyphs this weekend when the 'weekend warriors' logon to WoW and dual spec for the first time.

Gold total now in the mid 70s. Lots of progression repairs. Spent a lot of guild time on Ignatus bugs. His trash wasn't that bad.

The 3.1 patch has been nuts for Glyphs. Due to progression raiding, I have not been doing very much with the other 'industries'. Glyph books, GB cash infusion have been a drain of money.

Ore: spent 500g (mainly to a guildie farmer for his repairs)
Gems: Sold 250g (initial rush of Shifting Twilight Opal, keeping my stacks for next PvP season which is 'bigger' on my server than Ulduar)
Herbs: spend 500g (all Sunday when herbs crashed to 10-13g/stack)
Inscription: sold 25k
Alchemy: sold 1k (pre-made)
Jewelry: Sold 1k
crafting mats: spent 250g
Enchantments: No postings
Reputation cloth: spent 1k
Glyph Books: spent 12k on 10 books
Guild Bank donation: spent 10k

For -1k total after a week, but I have 10 rare glyphs, donated 10k gold to guild for continued material pushing for progression (fish feasts, repairs, etc)

Long term, I'm done with the glyph books at current pricing levels. I have a monopoly on 3 glyphs right now (selling for 300g per), but I don't see that as maintaining. I expect the glyphs to stabilize around 20-50g after crashing. The glyph crash has already started, mainly from all the inscriptors who made glyphs just for the patch and are now exiting the market. I feel there will always be a market for glyphs because:
A) People respec beyond their two specialties for PvP or situational.
B) Some people won't dual-spec due to the 1k gold cost
C) You can use glyphs ANYWHERE now. I am actually doing this when tanking by encounter... I think this will catch on with the highest raiders... HOWEVER I feel the highest raiders buy <5% of my glyphs, as they have guildies to assist them.

I'm producing for the VoA / Naxx / BG / pre1600 arena crowd. I'm going heavy gems when the next arena season opens up. Many stacks just waiting. I did notice a gem crash as people expected that to happen with Ulduar. A misconception of our server, in my opinion. Rivendare is much more about the PvP scene among the general populace.

Lots of time spent progression raiding still (not as far as I would like), and I have still been spending a decent amount on glyph books.

Ore: spent 0g
Gems: Sold 0g (Starting the posting this week for arena / BG junkies)
Herbs: spend 500g
Inscription: sold 15k
Alchemy: sold 2k (still pre-made)
Jewelry: Sold 1k
crafting mats: spent 500g (eternals dipped low, purchased more dragon eye's for alt jewlery)
Enchantments: No postings
Reputation cloth: spent 500g
Glyph Books: spent 8k on 15 books
Progression: 2.5k (repairs mostly)

For +6k gold to bring me up to almost 80k.

Inscriptions are stabilizing, with several players exited the market after trying to 'dump' (dumping doesn't work for inscriptions... nobody seems to pre-buy when the 'normal' inscription sells for 12g and you're trying to dump it for 4g.... I DO buy up all that junk for resale, however; if it's cheap enough) There are maybe 3-5 glyphs over 100g per still. That should change over the next week. The 'book glyphs' seem to be stabilizing at either 20g or 50g depending on whether they're 'good' or 'bad'. Regardless, with books now dipping below 300g each, I'll buy that.

Starting to sell some gems. I posted last night (so they'll show up next week). I posted 16 rubies, 16 monarchs, 12 autumn glows, 12 solid sapphires, 12 opals, and 12 emeralds. My early morning AH check saw all the rubies and about half of the rest sell. That market will be in full swing over the next 2-3 days. After posting I have about 200 rare gems ready for cutting / selling. I am expecting around 6k gold for the gems. I still have lots of green stuff to make and DE, which should bring some more as well. I'll be firing up the enchanting engine again as well... need a good hour to get everything crafted and humming.

I have spent quite a bit of time on Argent Tournament. I hit 'of Thunderbluff' and haven't started the next set of events for black knight achiev or the swap to 'of Silvermoon'. Silvermoon is the only non-exalted faction I have left. Those dailies take quite a bit of time. I've also started up the daily fishing quests for hope of an epic gem. As I play tree/bear, many of them will work...

Between work and my daughter being admitted to the hospital (long story, she's 'ok' now), I am truant. meh

Lots more time spent progression raiding (Yogg attempts now), and I have now finished with glyph books.

Ore: spent 0g
Gems: Sold 3k
Herbs: spend 2k
Inscription: sold 16k
Alchemy: sold 3k (crafting has restarted)
Jewelry: Sold 3k
crafting mats: spent 1k
Enchantments: 2k
Glyph Books: spent 6k
Progression: 3k (repairs mostly)

For 15k gold. I am now over 90k. Inscription slowing down on frequency of purchases, but my guess may be right... respeccing is still occurring. Or at least re-glyphing now that you don't need a lexicon.

I have 10stacks of gems that still need cut. Haven't been able to do much due to RL issues outside of scan and bulk post.

Ore: spent 500g
Gems: Sold 2k
Herbs: spent 2k
Inscription: sold 12k
Alchemy: sold 1k (market deteriorating, may discontinue)
Jewelry: Sold 2k
crafting mats: spent 500g
Enchantments: sold 1k
Progression: 1k (repairs)

I have now topped 100k gold. I would really like to hit personal cap before too long, so I'm planning on 'turning on' the gold engine to get the cap sooner rather than later.

So, more Inscription, more JC, more enchanting, more jewelcrafting, more hi/low buying... more everything.

We'll see how it goes next week.

5/25 report:

Ore: spent 3k
Gems: Sold 5k
Herbs: spent 4k
Inscription: sold 10k
Alchemy: sold 500g (only 1 elixir worth selling, going to post only on high days-- I want 30%+ return)
Jewelry: Sold 1k
crafting mats: spent 3k
Enchantments: sold 2k

Gold total is now around 115k. Pushing to get gold cap by 4th of July.

Server was down A LOT this week for unknown reasons. Really cut into Mon – Wed playing. Progression raiding with that and the holiday weekend suffered greatly.

Spent about 50% more time on AH for ~50% more gold. (taking server downtime during 'primetime' into consideration)

I am looking at gathering crafting mats for a boe crafted epic (leaning tword belt). That should 'cost' around 7k with current server prices.

JCing does take a lot of time. Prospect / cut / craft / DE / scroll enchant, while making decent money also takes a decent amount of time. Fully processing 40-50 stacks will take about an hour, with my JC and Enchanter being different toons, and my main toon's JC bag space always being at a premium.

Derrek, Thanks for being consistent in your weekly AH reports. I check them out weekly and use them as motivation to continue grinding the AH. At the moment I have only 1 lvl 80 with 2 maxed professions (Insc & JC- which I started before I started reading your blog) and bring in anywhere from 5-10k gold per week with (2) 15-min reposting sessions per night.

By reading your blog, and following your tutelage, I have become the number 1 financier of my guild's bank and was wondering if you could also make a post on Guild-gold management. You've mentioned that you donated 10k gold to your GB once and was wondering what all your guild spends its money, and lay out a simple blueprint on ways guilds can maximize their usefulness in regards to guild bank funds.

The use of gold by a guild is going to vary on the social context you want with your guild.

Our guild expects members to enchant / gem / glyph / repair (currently) on their own dime. That being said, for Ulduar we have branched out a bit, due to our guild's vault growing since rerolling.

-We provide abyss crystals for loot-council approved enchants.
-For specific encounters, guild repairs may be turned on for those of raider+ membership
-A fixed number of gems were offered for guild progression in Ulduar
-Flasks for raiding provided at the start of Ulduar (everyone got about 1 stack at the beginning of Ulduar to help with price spike)
-Potions/Injectors made available
-Fish feasts... lots of fish feasts

After I finish my AH raiding to hit the gold cap, I'm planning on contributing the overflow into guildbank. At that point, guild repairs will hopefully be a common item.

6/1 report:

Ore: spent 1k
Gems: Sold 5k
Herbs: spent 5.5k (cheap herbs purchased and stashed for a 'rainy day')
Inscription: sold 11k
Alchemy: sold 0g
Jewelry: Sold 3k
crafting mats: spent 2k
Enchantments: sold 4k
Runed Orbs: purchased 5.5k (5 orbs, plan to buy 3-6 more when the belt pattern drops)

For about 9k. Gold total is now around 125k. The prices are seeing a general decline, and I have seen a lot of 'dumping' of glyphs. I have purchased quite a few glyphs (~100) for cheaper than the cost to produce them. I view this very positively for the long term… the people who chose to dabble in Inscription after the patch are getting out. Less competition = more gold for me later. My average number of glyph posting per day is 500-600. I sell about 10-15% of these per day.

I have greatly encouraged guildies to actually use their JCing for gain, and outlined how to make gold step-by-step. A few have joined in and now saronite ore is consistently above 20g/stack. (It used to be below 18g/stack). I'm very happy with this development, obviously. I expect to see gem prices improve here in another week, once people realize that it's long term.

6/8 report:

Ore: spent 0g
Gems: Sold 1.5k
Herbs: spent 1.5k ('rainy day' herbs used)
Inscription: sold 26k
Alchemy: sold 0g
Jewelry: Sold 3k
crafting mats: spent 1k
Enchantments: sold 0k
Runed Orbs: purchased 3k (3 orbs, done with crafting for raiding; considering AH crafts)

For +25k this week.

Material prices have skyrocketed since the crash last week, Herbs + Saronite are above 20g/stack; and other materials are up 30-50% as well. This is very unusual, especially with herbs. Fortunately, I had the large surplus with herbs, and have now worked through that surplus. My Inscription sales have increased 100% as other scribes are running out of materials. There just aren't many herbs available, so price has adjusted accordingly. I used to be able to buy a full tab of tiger lily at a nice price, this week there has been less than a dozen postings.

I took the opportunity of high herb prices to completely buy out several glyphs that were extremely under-priced. I cleared out 6 glyphs for reposting. 4 of those bought out have their new prices firmly in check, 1 of the others has gone up 100% (to 6g), the other just has someone consistently posting at 2-3g each (average ink price = 3.2g) I made all of my gold back from the purchases in 2 sales. Keep in mind, these were glyphs sold under production cost. On the best case example: I purchased 8 glyphs for a total of 18g. I reposted 4 of those glyphs for 22g each. I sold two of that glyph in less than 12 hrs. I am fairly confident that glyphs priced under 25g are a reflex purchase by most players. Most players don't realize the cost to produce a glyph, and as long as the price is under a couple dailies, who cares. Most people don't pre-buy anything, so a really cheap glyph doesn't equate to more sales, unless you're 'resetting' the market.

I realized this weekend WHY the herb market has dried up: Darkmoon Faire… duh. My solo cards have seen sale increases by 20-40%, and I knew the faire was here and that's why the eternal life market skyrocketed; I somehow missed the connection. So, in full faire mode, I bought out and reposted 12 cards that were still at old pricing levels. I have since re-sold 10 of those cards at a 40% average mark-up. I have also hit my bank and pulled out all those low level decks and cards I stored for the faire. A large portion of the income this week is from those card sales. Keep in mind… I mill an awful lot of herbs and have snowfall ink coming out of my ears. I don't inscribe to make darkmoon cards, as I don't think the profit margin for the decks is as good as glyphs. But, I am not going to turn down a lower margin profit from a by-product of an 'industry' when the opportunity presents itself.

Gold total now in the 150k range.

To get everything set up, it took awhile. Now that I'm 'maintaining' the process:

-I spend 10-15m every morning crafting glyphs / checking epics, expensive rares (undcutting those as necessary)
-I spend 15-25m before raid reposting glyphs, noting what needs to be crafted the next morning, and purchasing raw materials for all my professions.
-I spend ~60-90m over the weekend doing all the milling/prospecting/crafting for the upcoming week.

I have four young kids, so there are many distractions over the weekend, and I usually batch as much crafting as possible. I have all my millings / prospectings macrod so I at least only hit 1 button for those. Cutting a stack of Dark Jade, crafting 20 citrine necklaces or creating 10-20 enchants via macro is not uncommon. While I post my glyphs in the evening, I'm catching up on worldofraids, forums, etc. I don't post anything from my main character, as I don't want distractions during raid time.

6/15 report:

Ore: spent 0g
Gems: Sold 1k
Herbs: spent 2k (includes purchase of some Ink of the Sea that was dumped by Darkmoon Faire card sellers)
Inscription: sold 16k
Alchemy: sold 0g (margins on this are way down again. Just observing until things get better.)
Jewelry: Sold 3k
crafting mats: spent 1k
Enchantments: sold 2k
Boomin: purchased 2k (boe Ulduar bracers + re-enchant. Boomkin now viable for alt spec 25man raiding.)

For +17k this week.

Gold total now around 165k, and I'm hoping I can get over 200k before I take some scouts to summer camp. (I'm a scout leader). Looks viable. My purchase of gear for alt specs is pretty much done. We've gotten some really good feral druids in the guild recently, so my spec went from resto/bear to resto/boom. As my boom gear was mainly 10m Naxx, I purchased ilvl219 bracers and won a /roll for conq legs(/roll only occur in guild for alt specs. We're Lootcouncil). That with some badge purchases have dramatically improved by dps on a target dummy. (by over 700). Made some adjustments as well to rotations after getting caught back up on EJ threads.

After I hit 200k, I'm going to be putting gold income into the Gbank. We've cleared Ulduar 3 weeks now with 2days for a clear; and are burning through 10m Ulduar hardmodes for drakes. Leviathen -> Thorim hardmodes are complete for the drakes, and we're planning on Mimiron and Freya hardmodes tonight. (maybe more, depending). With 25m hardmodes on the immediate horizon, a goal is to Gbank repairs. A night of wiping should cost around 7-8k gold by my estimates.; we'll see how it turns out.

6/22 report:

Ore: spent 0g (skyrocketing prices, I didn't have the time to JC this week)
Gems: Sold 1k (still working off the Thorium cheap ore I bought 3 wks ago)
Herbs: spent 4k (includes purchase of some more Ink of the Sea that is dumped by Darkmoon Faire card sellers. At one point Tiger Lily dropped under 16g/stack down to 8g/stack. Bought 40 stacks.)
Inscription: sold 22k (been really pushing glyphs hard, selling 50-75/day; about 10% of posts.)
Alchemy: sold 0g (observing still)
Jewelry: Sold 0g (dragon's eye prices up, titanium prices very high, waiting for market to adjust upwards)
crafting mats: spent 0g
Enchantments: sold 1k

For +20k this week, putting gold in the ~185k range. About 2 weekends of gold AHing left until cap.

The big buzz now is about titanium ore being prospect-able for epics in 3.3. I think this will result in initial epic flooding and am going to wait this one out.

You can get epic gems from:
Honor (easy to hit cap… PvP server and my faction wins more than 2/3 of the BGs)
Thorium Ore
Badges

So, I am expecting LOTS of people 'cashing in' on the epics. After 1-2 days the AH will be flooded and I'll buy them up. JCers are saving up tokens now for cuts, indirectly causing dragon eye gems to increase in price. The epic jewelry market hasn't increased yet, but it will to compensate… so I'm holding off posting there for now, until the market does its adjustment. I feel that more patterns will appear than just for JC tokens.

Hmm, argent tournament and there is a new faction RIGHT THERE that we have been gaining reputation for, and they don’t have a vendor yet. Now… what could they POSSIBLY sell? (Sunwell pt 2, anyone?) Seems obvious to me that some JC patterns will be reputation linked.(which means I need to get exalted now) Especially the 'big' ones that sell the most: Runed, Bold, Solid, Reckless, etc. I have a JC alt to coincide with my JC main, so I'll be good… but now I got to do JC dailies again, bleh. I still haven't finished the argent tournament reputation grind either, still need to do the 5days to finish off my ogrimmar champion title. (I really hate dailies, those are even time efficient.)

I'm going to be offline for the next 10 days or so due to business and taking scouts up to camp. Will be interesting seeing how the AH changes with a major supplier gone for that amount of time.

7/6 report:

Ore: spent 2k (bought a few low Titanium Ore. Not going in for the large speculative market, but when its under 100g/stack…)
Gems: Sold 2k (still working off the Thorium cheap ore I bought 5 wks ago)
Herbs: spent 1k
Inscription: sold 18k (Being away for 1 week caused the market to get very high price wise…)
Alchemy: sold 0g (observing still)
Jewelry: Sold 0g (dragon's eye prices up, market adjusting; will probably go back in soon.)
crafting mats: spent 0g
Enchantments: sold 2k
High/Low selling: sold 7k

For +26k this week, I am literally 2k away from goldcap, and should hit it in 1-2 days without trying very hard. I tried to get it this weekend, doing high/low selling on the AH, but didn't quite make it. (buy low/ sell high)

I have been away guiding young scouts for a week. The glyph market during that time skyrocketed. Probably due to the fact that I have been posting 500-700 glyphs/day and that went to 0 for a week. I made crazy amounts from glyphs when I fired up the engine again. I posted 4-6 different glyphs for over 50g a pop; and easily made over 1-2k just from those.

Now it's time to figure out what to do next. My original thought was to stock the guild bank. Just start feeding gold and materials for 3.2 so there will be 0g in repairs for guild and gems/enchants/consumables would be free as well. I am an officer in the guild, so access is not an issue.

While I was gone, the guild leader and another officer hung up their wow accounts for RL. I have gamed with these two since Killing Gruul. We re-rolled horde together, I know how their kids are doing, etc. The only story line I really cared about (and why I got into WoW) was Illidan. And well… he's been dead for awhile. I don't have a burning desire to raid anymore; it was fun with 'the guys' and now I'm at an impasse. I do enjoy raiding the AH and might do that for awhile. I really, really hate guild drama. I am one of those 'I enjoy healing' healers and I enjoy defeating hardmodes. I usually get the first dibs on a true healer leather drop (tree main), but if I don't 'oh well'. I'm not infatuated with new loots for side-grades. (KT's cloak will keep me through T8, and 10man Ulduar trinkets are better for druids, too).

So, thoughts of quitting WoW are entering my head. My kids are getting bigger so it's a matter of time until I need to, regardless. I just won't be able to keep up the raid schedule with bedtimes creeping up later and later as the kids get older.

Haven't made a decision yet.

Kids > WoW for sure, don't forget the mom either ^^

Hit the casual road, raiding 2-3 days a week should be fine. Beating hard-modes will probably not be an option anymore then, but you get a "passive hardmode" by playing with people that are generally less skilled. If you can't enjoy that kind of play its indeed most likely that you'll end up quitting or playing arena's (since they're easier to schedule).

7/13 report

My motivation for WoW has dramatically decreased since going 'casual'. Keep in mind that the only upgrades (except for my MH... I was #2 for the legendary mace) for my main at this point are off of hardmodes. My WoW playtime was headed for a reduction regardless, with kids getting older. Having three people I've played with for 3+ years quit just tipped things over the edge. I really doubt I could find another guild that could have my playtimes and a maturity level I would need to keep interested.

I did hit goldcap, and immediately donated 14k to Gbank. (so just over 200k on my main atm.) I've also lowered my AHing to just inscription to save a bit of time and effort.

Income is rough to determine, as I'm stocking a GBank at the moment. Being logged on for 3 days gave the GBank:
20 abyss crystals
76 Gr. Cosmic Essence
140 Dream Dust
20 Sky Sapphire
20 Twilight Opal
20 Monarch Topaz
10 Scarlet Ruby

Currently, I'm planning to logg on occassionally, stocking the GBank as needed.

I would go nuts playing with casuals who tend to have a solution of 'blame the healer' for their lack of ability. (I'm healer main spec.) I may solo all the Classic and TBC dungeons for achievs.

Also pondering a trial of EVEonline to try my economic hand at that...

Old
I just read through all of your posts starting from day one, and I have got to say that you are my hero. I have always wanted copious amounts of gold, but I have always been too lazy to actually do something with my professions. I also play a resto drood and I have Ins/Herb, but seeing how much gold you made basically with Ins it makes me want to make that much! Thanks for the posts and sorry that WoW lost it's spark. If you ever want to play with some casuals come to Burning Legion and play with me and my friends!
