A Quick How-To
I've been getting a few questions from people, both on IRC and via PM's on improving Elemental dps.
Most of my observations have been around gearing. The new badge items from SSO are good (see an earlier blog entry), gemming for more haste is better than gearing for more damage (especially as you'll use the somewhat underused [Seaspray Emerald] instead of the ever popular [Shadowsong Amethyst].
Gem wise, yellow sockets should always be [Quick Lionseye], blue should be [Forceful Seaspray Emerald], but red can be either [Runed Crimson Spinel] or [Reckless Pyrestone] depending on how you want to go.
Aside from that, it boils down to consumable use, totem management, and spell casting.
Make sure that you're aware of when your totems need to be recast to try to mix them in with normal dps rotations, and that your group knows where you are going to be. If you have enough mana, use some destruction potions.
Make sure you start the next spell casts 0.2-0.4 seconds before the current spell finishes to minimise wasted time.
Lastly, professions. In an ideal min/max world you will have a combination of leatherworking (drums), enchanting (12 dmg to each ring) or Jewelcrafting (14 dmg, 12 crit gems, and best-in-slot neck from Sunwell).

if you could choose one of the mentioned 3 professions, which one would you choose? and while at it, if you could choose 2?

Currently, I have Jewelcrafting and Enchanting.
Based on what I know now, and assuming drums won't be nerfed, I would go Leatherworking & Jewelcrafting. |
