So there I was working on Part 2 of the Military Leadership series, and was complete after an hour. Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C, close the document, nope I don't need to save it. Open blog... Ctrl-V.... what the fuck why isn't anything pasting?
Either I forgot to actually copy the text, or OpenOffice + Firefox + Linux just conspired together to screw me over pretty bad.

Actually, the way the X clipboard works is just that. The request to copy stuff from an application to another is sent when you paste things. But I feel your pain, as I got screwed over a couple of times myself. :-)

Clipboards are weird, the X one does everything at the time of the paste (including negotiating what format to copy and paste i.e. text, html, etc). Windows works the same way until you close the originating application, which triggers the clipboard to request the default format and offer that to the application when a paste happens.
