Hungry While Herbing: The Birth of the Contest

Posted 05/08/09 at 3:52 PM by Nayt
Don't you sell pizza for gold?
I can't count how many times I've been asked this by level 1 alts on my server, in BGs or on the server forums. I'm a regular college guy, I've got lots of money and nothing to hide. I was honest told people that indeed I did. I've traded pizza for many different WoW items. I've never been suspended or banned for doing so, which has given me part of my current career path. One day I started I realized that I didn't care much about gold or items in a video game (which now that I think about it, I sort of do). But, I knew people that did. I thought of all the people out there that mindlessly farm for money. Then I realized that I could get their money, so I'd make them farm for me. At the time my guild was in AQ40 and man did we need tons of herbs for flasks. (And man did those flasks get wasted...heh). The 1st contest I started was called Hungry While Herbing. While I can't remember the original rules and details. It involved people sending our guild bank Dreamfoil and Flasks. At the time the conversion rate was super low. Where as now a days gold/herbs are easier to get and the conversion rate is higher. Do this day I've sold/traded about 60 pizzas.

In July 2008, about the time I started playing WoW again and re-rolled I was e-mailed from a marketer of Papa Johns. I thought it was a joke and so did past and present guildmates. Some of his colleagues and fellow WoW players had read about me/heard about me (I may owe EJ some money). I was then asked about my story, offered a part time job and asked why I did what I do. Currently I market pizza to people that play video games. I promote Papa John's at random events, tell people my story and make Papa John's some money. I get 50% off my personal purchases and host many contests, namely on my current server (Detheroc) and now via my blog. I offered the 1st 80s on Sargeras and Detheroc pizza and even the 1st 80 in the Benefactor's Bar. (Like most of my posts, no one took me seriously and the prize has been unclaimed since). I don't pay my subscription or for changes/character re-customizations I've had done, it's pretty nice and is probably one of the reasons I keep playing. (My guild and server/community being the others)

The rave, continuations and Part 2 later on.

@Antoine: When I played on BDF I think I bought pizza for people all over, even from Canada from places I'd never heard of. Also, someone reported by blog posting on the BDF server forums and it go deleted?

@Ashstrike: Nope, but thanks for reading. I'd assume that Falk (was the 1st person in the US that I'd be capable of ordering for. His loss.)
