Arena points and battlegroup activity
The ELO system is based on teams trading rating points from a starting base, causing the ratings of the battlegroup as a whole to converge to a rough normal distrubution around the starting point. The amount of teams will determine how far from the mean the top and bottom teams can get, particularly noticable in the short run. This means the arena points earned by a team of above average skill will be higher on more active battlegroups than on inactive ones. The magnitude of this effect is currently unknown to me, at least.
I'm interested in what sorts of rating more active battlegroups are seeing for the top 5v5 ranks after the first two weeks have passed. From seeing rating numbers pasted on message boards after the first week, they seemed ungodly compared to what we were seeing on our extremely inactive battlegroup. If you or a team you know is currently in the top section of your battlegroup, what is your rating and ranking? If possible, list the battlegroup name/number as well.
In our case, we are in a rather large battlegroup (15 servers). However, of those, 7 are PvE servers, 1 is RP, and the rest is PvP. Only three of those PvP servers have a visible presence in the top tiers. So few teams lead to a ton of repeated matchups and lots of traded points in the upper quartile. After the second week, we are ranked 12th in our BG, but only have 1908 rating points. This is Battlegroup 3 "Cyclone" on the EN-EU servers. The #7 team has 1962, and the #1 team is at 2132.
If we get a decent amount of samples I'll try to whip up a few figures to show some differences in reward rate, to see if we can get a decent basis for discussion.
