Huh, so a 1h with flametongue in the hands of a resto shaman wearing melee gear > 2h with wf in the hands of the same shaman? It does seem a bit counter-intuitive, so perhaps the 2h/resto people just need more math.

No the resto shaman would wear either his heal kit or elemental gear for the talented +dmg boost he gets from his Intellect, which of course scales the flametongue damage.

Windfury on any weapon is pretty much a waste of time once you're around lvl 55 or so if you haven't taken the Elemental Weapons talent.

While that may be true if you stack int/spell damage with Resto instead of melee stats, using a 1h/shield with boring constant damage FT doesn't give the big numbers like a 2H with windfury gives . Especially for solo PvP I feel a 2H weapon with WF is best.

That armory blog site is neat, you can hover over each of the popular talent builds to see what people in the top 10 picked. It shows that players feel there are choices, since most builds have a few different talent choices in each of the most popular specs (which is intended).

It might feel cooler to use WF, but its definitely not the most efficient way to drag a guy down as a resto spec, and it gives up the 3-4k armor that a shield provides.

I personally use a highdmg elemental set with a 1h and frostbrand for farming. Flametongue is nice sustained damage, but with non-elite mobs having such low HP to begin with, sustained damage isn't needed and the burst damage from frostbrand is more to my liking. I leveled from 60 to 70 using this method and got there fairly quickly (forgot exact number) and don't recall getting killed by an NPC a single time, all the while rarely ever needing a group for anything under a 3man quest.

Frostbrand does around 400 damage per procc for me on a mob with 5.000 - 8.000 healthpoints. To finish a mob off after some lightning bolts, i rely on flametongue. I won't need any burst at this point, flametongue does allways provide the same expectable damage, and that's why it's far a way better then frostbrand in my opinion.

I've done all quests in netherstorm and shadowmoon valley with a restoration specc and i did all quests before that (including 3people recommend) with an enhance specc. Restoration is for outlasting, Enhance and Elemental are for burst, both work fine.

Well, on topic - i dislike that blizzard can't hold up with the top guilds and showing their gear properly. I don't want to see shadowpriests, mages and warlocks with spellstrike and their tailoring clothes only for any longer.
And the "see an upgrade from your gear" option is a nice idea, but simply listing some higher ranked items via itemlevel doesn't really suits for it. And what's about those blue items, that come close to t4/5 epic quality or are a sidegrade or even superior to. The the healershield of magtheridon for example is ranked higher than the [Aldori Legacy Defender] while your are looking for better items for your tank.

Those casters are using that crafted gear b/c it is really that good, although Tier 5 is competitive for those slots (except for Shadow Priests) and Tier 6 is a clear upgrade. The Tier sets have been buffed once, I doubt they will be buffed again.

Simply listing some higher item level items is a good idea, because not every player knows where gear comes from, and in many cases the higher item level item is better.
