Greetings.

I played a Gnome Mage to 60 and raided fairly heavily... However, I stopped playing over a year ago to focus more on school and now I'm done and graduated (for now). I have the spring and summer to play WoW again before medical school starts.

I'm wondering what spec is the most efficient for leveling up from 60 to 70 in Burning Crusade. I have spec'd fire to level up to 60 and then turned ice for raids, so I'm comfortable with both. I have spent a couple of hours researching the new specs, but it might as well be greek, because it looks fairly different from when I last played and I have not had first hand experience with the new skills.

I have some buddies I play with at times, so I will be doing a good mix of solo work and grouping.

And it looks pretty solid to me. Though, at the points I have now, I figure I'd max out Arcane and move down the fire and get Pyroblast at 60.

What Mage spec have you found is the most efficient/best suited for leveling up to 70 from 60?

Don't think needed a new thread. You could have posted this in the TBC mage theorycraft thread or very well found your answer there.

Now, leveling to 60 or leveling 70, which one is it? Eitherway, I would say it's frost. Almost all mobs you face while leveling can be frozen and snared. I would put arcane missles second with the uninterruptable talent.

Not sure you needed a topic just for this, but I will answer it anyway since it is short. No Mage spec can beat the power of Shatter (50% more crit on frozen targets). Plus if you have the Water Elemental, you get another freeze spell.


While the Arcane/Fire is a great raid spec, it is not that great of a leveling spec.

I leveled as primarily fire, and definitely saw some places where frost would have been beneficial. I especially began to notice it a lot once I obtained Ice Lance at 66. There is a lot more downtime when you go as fire as well, when trying to burst out a lot of dps at mobs, which limits how productive you are, imo.

So yeah. I agree with the above posters for the most part.

PS - I am leveling from 60 to 70. Sounds like Ice is the way to go.
