Fishing made interesting: play with your Wii(mote).

A few days ago, I was joking around in guild chat that I needed to figure out how to use my Wiimote to fish in WoW. I was trying to level my fishing (I'd been ~200 forever) and...well, it's really a pretty mind-numbing exercise.

So I started thinking about it, recalled some stuff I'd read on it before, and played around a bit. I'd already managed to get my Wiimote working to play Chrono Trigger with in ZSNES, but WoW was going to be a little less cut-and-dried. Nonetheless, I did figure it out, and I figured I'd share it with you guys, since it seems like the kind of thing that can really enhance the experience.

I've got the whole thing with do-it-yourself instructions plus a YouTube video at my newly-minted blog.

To give this thread some life, I pose two questions: what other input devices/methods/whatever have you used, and second, how else could the wiimote be put to use in the game? I find that WoW is generally too complex to allow the Wiimote to serve as a general-purpose controller, but I'm sure there are other applications waiting to be discovered.

I had never thought about doing this before, but this is a fantastic idea. I tried it on my Paladin and I can do basically everything I need to with the gamepad buttons, and the mouse control isn't too shabby either.

I have a PS2-to-USB setup, with controls as such:

Left analog stick: WASD
Right analog stick: Mouse movement
Right stick button (R3): Spacebar
D-Pad Down, Left, Up, Right: Bags, Character, Quest Log, and Map, respectively
X: Judgement/SoR macro (SoCrusader when shift is held)
Triangle: Blessing of Might (BoWisdom when shift is held)
O: Holy Light
Square: Hammer of Justice
L1: Shift
L2: Target nearest enemy
R1: Left-click
R2: Right-click
Start: Divine Protection
Select: Blessing of Protection

Now I can play from my bed, or just reclining in my computer chair Thanks for the suggestion!

i used a swiss army knife during aq-farm event to force down my shift button when fishing for autoloot, it was basically all sounds off just right klick on splash sound and watch tv

Too bad you have to move the cursor over the fishing lure with the nunchuck to do that, kind of breaks the illusion of just being able to use the fishing motion. Neat concept though.

Hope my housemate doesn't read this - I went to try and play the Wii the other day and he'd pilfered the controllers to screw around with them in wow -_-.

It does to some degree, but it really doesn't feel too bad to be honest. It's certainly a lot more fun than mindlessly clicking.
