WoW Trading Card Game: Through the Dark Portal Expansion
First things first - I asked the powers-that-be if it was cool for me to post this, so don't report me for being a shameless corporate shill.
With that out of the way - I just wanted to inform those of you who might not be aware that tomorrow marks the release of the first expansion of the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game: Through the Dark Portal. I'll spare you the salesmenship - suffice it to say that I think the set (and the game!) is a lot of fun, but it's fair to say that I might be more than a little biased.
Along with the new cards, there's three new Loot items in the set - a picnic blanket w/ goblin grill, a monkey pet, and a magic imp-ball, which is a fortune telling imp that you can summon. You can check out images and descriptions of all the loot cards here: www.ude.com/loot
For more information, check out www.ude.com/wow
And before you ask - no, I won't give you free stuff, and no, I won't name a card after you.

Reported for being a shameless corporate shill anyway.
OMG monkey pet. Quit making me want to buy this game for no reason, I have yet to succumb to a CCG and you aren't helping. Any chance of an art book release?

My brother opened a King Mukla loot card at the Minneapolis sneak peek!
A lot of cool new rogue cards, some interesting deck possibilities there. Rexxar's a beast and should be fun but Queen Sylvanas is pretty lackluster, especially when you look at Tyrande -- totally alliance easy-mode :P
Thanks for all your (and everyone else at UDE) hard work. I'm looking forward to spending too much money on packs.

You can see the monkey pet in-game at Landro Longshot in Booty Bay if you want to check him out - he's named Bananas, even.
The picnic basket - which is actually the most common loot card - is my favorite right now, if only because some people in my guild decided that their arena strategy would be to create a picnic on top of everyone they killed - forget cannibalize
We have some art products coming up, and I'm checking into info on them to post for you.

The UDE wow site lists the release as April 16th? Will the product be in the stores tomorrow?

Release celebrations, which are local hobby shop events, are this coming weekend, but the product is officially available for sale tomorrow.

Hey, thanks for all the hard work on the TCG, Elendril. Me and my friends really enjoy it, and we've spent far too much money on it. I recently placed 4th in the sneak preview tourney in Birmingham, AL, and we'll be going to a regional here in a couple of months as well. I'm still torn on what deck I'll be playing there, though.
It's fun as hell and I really just wanted to say thanks. This forum was my first introduction to the WoW TCG and I probably wouldn't have picked it up if I hadn't seen some of the art and such here first.

That deck was good to begin with, and now there's Thunderfury (though expensive) and that damn Big Game Hunter dwarf. He's so good...

The WoW TCG is almost just Magic with WoW characters. There are large differences, but I couldn't help but laugh when I read the rules for spell timing and priority (the chain is exactly like the stack).
That said, they're copying from the best, and stuff like raid bosses is neat. Fun, if a little uncreative. I don't want to be excessively negative, as I played with the starter deck in my TBC collector's edition and it was more fun than you'd expect it to be. Thought was definitely put into the game, and it's good to see new sets arriving.

You could say this about probably 85% of the CCGs on the market these days.
As a retired Magic player myself, I might enjoy the WoW game -- but I don't really know anyone to play with, don't have the free time to find people, and know better than to get myself into another time-consuming hobby that costs even more than WoW

I was surprised to see a preview card coming with my game magazine about a month ago, I didn't really expect it like that I guess. I do not play the game but I wouldn't mind trying it out 1 day. It looks quite neat with nice cards, a good gameplay and a overall good feel, so I can only say: Good job.

I actually have one WoW card in one of my casual Magic decks for a laugh - they're so similar that they're practically interoperable

Well, to be fair there's no other sane way to do spell timing. I'm an avid board-games fan, and stacks are pretty much the default player interoperability mechanic unless you specifically design in roundabout microturns like you see in Puerto Rico(which are really just an explicit stack without a pass option).

Speaking of Magic, there's a card in the Dark Portal set that is named "Tim". You might see it as a Monty Python homage (which it is), but he exhausts to deal 1 arcane damage to a target.
That should sound familiar to any Magic vet

I really like the way the game turned out. When I have enough money that I can spend some of it on a card game again, this is going to be the one.
I didn't think anything would trump MTG, especially in a competitive tournament type aspect, but WoW TCG has for me. It successfully removed a lot of the unfun apsects of MTG, but managed to keep all of the strategy that allows it to be played competitively.
So, when are you going to give me a Bloodlust card?!

the idea to remove colored mana and make everything castable by the same resource is neat ... also the fact that you can use a "normal" card as a resource is cool ... anyone running 26 lands and still mana screwed? well no more
