No armor slot/class for the gauntlets. Are they even equippable?

I like the socket bonus even though the item has no sockets. I guess maybe when you upgrade it or something it will gain sockets.

Wild speculation based soley on the fact that I've had my morning cup of coffee:

They are like a token item, you put in the 50 crystals, take it to an npc "yata yata.. powerfull stuff.. yata yata. Oh here's your new item."

Yeah, wasn't there a Shadowmoon quest item like that? Had equip: 200 spell damage or something insane--but you could not equip it. All you could do was wipe the drool off your keyboard, quietly curse the Blizzard quest designers, and hand it in for a green item to vendor.

No, it's logical. The item can't have sockets, because it's not (yet) a piece of armor. It has a preview of its final stats, but it can't have the single socket (guessing from socket bonus, it's supposed to have only one).

Everything points to the fact that it's a combinable item. And tradable.

Yup this sounds right to me. It is currently not able to be equipped, I assume when you collect the 50 shards and "use" it it will gain a mail armour class rating and also gain some sockets!

Actually. that's a fairly interesting new spin on keeping content used.
To a casual player, having that epic sitting in your inventory is a much better incentive to go out and grind than the more nebulous 'one you get to Exalted...'.

I like it, I think it's a neat new idea.

Doesn't that show some ItemID's of the items you should be able to create this way? Someone with a bit of mining skill might be able to help us?

That is the stats of the gloves, a little worse than the ones from attumen (I think!). I farmed the 50 shards on the bash'irs then went on to do some quests in Ogri'la and at the skyguard camp nearby. There are 3 repeatable quests there which you can do each day for 15 shards and some gold though, all very easy and one is a bombing run

Do you get Consortium rep from these quests? If so, how much?

edit: I see that Arkadu is already exalted, but I don't know about Melde.

Blizzard has really outdone itself with the casual content in TBC. Not one side of the fence really has grounds to complain now about how to acquire epic quality armor and weapons.

I didn't really do much ethereum prison stuff, I did the chain of gronn killing to enable myself to speak to NPCs in Ogri'la and a bit of farming of bash'irs!

No consortium rep in Ogri'la, that was Ogri'la annd Skyguard rep.

Can someone clarify the Depleted items bit? Why does that Depleted Dagger have stats and an Equip proc but no weapon damage or DPS?

Any idea where I can find the upgraded version info?

Depleted items by the looks of it are token items until you boost them with 50 shards. And as for the dagger in that picture it is still depleted and unusable in token form.
