Mysterious Potion Data

Blizzard has stated that Mysterious Potion will a) scale with Alchemy skill, b) can crit, and c) have a chance to proc potion effects. I want to collect a viable amount of data on Mysterious Potions in order to determine its relative value to Alchemists. To that end I have created this spreadsheet. It can be edited by anyone - please add your results if you are doing any testing of your own. Please fill it out completely for each line - note that critical heals should be placed in the second column. If you are willing to be contacted if I have any follow up questions, please include your EJ user name. I'll be doing a stack a day for now.

Even your first batch of data is informative. If I recall, all we have to go on is one old comment from a Blizzard poster about how the minimum heal would increase from 1 based on your Alchemy skill. We're not even sure if it went live.

But it does mean that we only care about the minimum observed data point in at each level of skill. Yours is 5382. That's suspiciously high if the minimum were in fact 1. In fact, if the minimum were 1, the odds of having no values under 5000 would be (2/3)^20 = 0.03%. And even if the minimum were 4000, the odds would be (10/11)^20 = 15%.

So we've already seen to very good confidence that the mechanic went live, and there's a good suggestion that the minimum is over 4000. Based on numerology, 10*500 = 5000 is a decent guess.

Rather than pointlessly guess at the details though, I'll just point out that 5000 is an important threshold for the minimum, because that makes this better on average than Mythical Mana. However, the uncertainty issue favors Mythical, and if the minimum is just about 5000 then Mythical is probably better anyway.

Are the potion proc effects still in? I figured they were gone since that part was removed from the description, and balance wise it was a bit silly, since alchemy already provides the same level of passive stat bonus as other professions from just mixology.

There is a column in the spreadsheet for potion effect procs. In my first 20 chugs, I received no procs. If you get them as you test, please note the effect there.

For what it's worth, I was using these occasionally during our raid yesterday. Here is the WOL report for our raid: World of Logs - Real Time Raid Analysis With an average return of 16,885 mana, it would appear that the minimum threshold is much higher than 5,000.

By your profile, you appear to be using [Lifebound Alchemist Stone], which would affect your overall values.

Are you only looking for data which is not effected by the alchemy trinket? I have been using these whenever I do not have the time to drink a concentration pot and have been getting pretty good results. I can start keeping track of when I use them so that I can go back and look at the data in my parses.

I've been sticking to data unaffected by LAS, however, if you want to contribute your results, just put "LAS" in the proc effect column (there's definitely no procs of other potions anymore.) Please follow these general rules to make our results more accurate, however:

-Don't pick and choose results to post.
-Make sure you're not under the effect of a buff that temporarily affects your crit rate, unless you include that in the crit columns.
-If you're under the effect of a buff or talent that affects healing done or recieved, please note that.
