Nerfed Flasks and Tauren Racial

While the tauren 5% hp racial wasn't such a big deal in the past, with alliance having a slight advantage even still due to blessing of kinds, it seems it might be a much bigger deal now.

With the new "best" flask, a non-tauren tank gains 500 hp. With Karazhan + Gruul's Lair gear (easily obtained by any raiding guild), an average tank can reach 12000 hp unbuffed. After standard buffs, 14000 hp is easily raached. Tauren racial adds 700 hp to that, without requiring a flask.

If encounters are being balanced around a 500 hp flask, does that mean tauren warriors will never need to flask? It sounds like a very overpowered racial for tanks. What does the raid community think about it?

It is only as overpowered as BoK was when it was Alliance only. Except that Kings was castable on anyone.

It's a perk, to be sure, but not the things that raids are balanced around.

I hardly think that an encounter can be based around 500 more hp on a tank, when that much is so easily attainable through even 2 gear upgrades, or gem selection.

Something like Gruul could very well be, while it might not sound like much, I'd guess 500 health could very well be the difference between being able to handle one more growth or not.

you don't really *need* to flask for most fights; it's more a matter of weighing the cost and time wasted of a tank death, which will typically spell a wipe, versus the cost of a 60g flask. most raids will still flask their tauren tank in relevant fights

I don't think the topic is totally invalid, but it doesn't really deserve its' own thread

His point is now you have BoK and Tauren Racial stacking... so yeah, the 10 def is a plus to flasking, but ultimately you can look at the Racial as a flask in and of itself, or flasking being a serious buff... but with the scale of consumables now, a "huge buff" from consumables is decidedly worth less in overall raid success. 1500 health meant a lot.. 500 health will mean... well.. 33% of that. Basically nice, but not amazing.
