Hey guys, long time lurker here first post, I'm the guy who wasted his weekend grinding out the drake so figured I'd copy the guide I wrote over here to. Sorry for any grammar/badly worded sentences but I'm not running on a ton of sleep so I tried to get it out quick.

Note: this guide is for people who are halfway decent at this game, the quests are easy enough so I'm not going to write out every detail

To start out, you MUST have 300 riding skill and a riding mount, as of right now flight form doesn't work from what I'm told (since you aren't mounted), you must also have done the quest to get your Netherwing rep to neutral.

All reputations listed are for humans

To start out you need to talk to Mordenai in Netherwing fields, he will send you to talk to the general of the Dragonmaw orcs at the Netherwing encampment. This encampment is located right on the first E of Netherwing Ledge.

There you will get several quests 2-4 daily quests based on how many gathering professions you have, and 1 repeatable quest. Daily quests are a new type of quest implemented with this patch, you can do each one once daily, but you can only do a max of 10 a day. This won't prevent you from doing the max possible quests for this chain each day, I'm guessing it's there to prevent you from grinding up for 2 mounts at once.

The quests you get are

A Slow Death (daily)-rewards 275 rep

Get 12 Fel Glands from the nether rays on netherwing ledge, use these along with the quest item you received to poison the orcs working all around the ledge.

Netherdust Pollen- 275 rep (daily)

This is the quest for herbalist, simple enough gather 40 pollens from the netherdust bushes found around the ledge. I don't know the names, but there is a similar quest for miners and skinners.

Netherwing crystal-275 rep (daily)

Collect 40 Netherwing crystals, these drop off of the flayers on the ledge and any mobs in the mines south of the encampment. I personally had the best drop rates off of the fallen in the back of the mine, but different people reported better drop rates for different things.

Not so friendly skies (Daily)

Get 10 Netherwing relics from the Dragonmaw transporters flying between Netherwing ledge and the Dragonmaw Fortress. Land on one of the floating islands between the island and the mainland and use ranged attacks to pull the transporters to you. Pretty easy quest, though their aimed shot hits for a lot so if you see the bow come out for a long time try to stun them.

Great Netherwing egg hunt (repeatable) 385 rep first turn in, 275 subsequent turn ins

This is the only completely repeatable quest there is, and it's to turn in a netherwing egg. These eggs can come from anywhere herbs, mining, mob drops, there are even eggs that spawn along the ridge that you can click on to loot. Sadly though, the drop rate on these is incredibly low, I probably only got 15 or so during the entire rep grind. I'm not sure how common the lootable ones will be once the servers are live, I think they take a while to spawn and the server wasn't usually up long enough for them to show up.

Repeat these quests until you get to friendly which opens up

Making your weapon (maybe not the right name, but it's in the encampment)- 385? rep

Bring 10 knothide leather and 1 tyrannitor hide to the npc to have your weapon crafted. Tryanitor is the level 71 Trex in the far north dome in Netherstorm. Note: the hide is a drop, it is not skinned
this leads to

The Booterang (not the right name)- (daily) 385 rep
You are given a booterang and have to discipline 20 dragonmaw peons with it. Pretty easy, just fly around and look for the peons that are either sleeping or are read and angry, the booterang is usable from your mount.

Picking up the pieces (daily)-385 rep
Collect 15 Nethermine cargo from the mine. Easy enough, just run around looking for lootable mine carts.

Dragons are the least of our problems (Daily)- 385 rep
Kill 15 Nethermine Flayers are 5 Nethermine Ravagers these aren't hard to find, second path from the left at the second split in the tracks at the mine (first split doesn't matter, both take you to the same place)

Crazed & confused- 385 rep
I was kind of surprised that this wasn't daily, but anyway to get to the npc stay left while going through the mines, eventually you'll see a netherdrake, drop down and you'll see the quest npc as you exit that area. The quest is to kill 5 Miners and 1 Foreman, to get to them go to the place with the flayers mentioned in the quest above and head to the right when given the choice.

do these until you get to honored

Building a Soul Cannon- 550 rep
bring the guy at camp 2 felsteel bars, 1 adamantite frame, 1 khorium power core, and one quest item. You get the quest item in terrokar forest in the area above the horde base that you can only get to with a flying mount. There's a guy there who will summon 5 elementals of each element one at a time, after you kill each of them you get the item, all easily soloable.

leads to

Subduing the Subduer-550 rep
Ok this quest can be difficult if you don't know what to do. Basically you have to channel a spell from your gryphon onto xxx the subduer a 73 elite in twilight ridge in nagrand. What you have to do is keep far enough back from him, and dodge his bolts to eventually drain his life down, I found it easier to train him around the center of the camp keeping across the center from him at all times (note: height has nothing to do with melee range so don't try to just fly high enough that he won't melee you). The biggest problem with this quest is that if you die while you're on your gryphon your corpse stil floats in the air, and if it's too high up you have to gy rez. However, the graveyrard you are sent to when you die in this area does not have a spirit healer. -_- if your faction controls halaa you can rez there...we didn't so I had to run all the way back to terrokar since I couldn't remember where any nagrand gys were to save my life. Once you win you get to choose between 4 green quest rewards, none of which are very overwhelming.

Disrupting the Twiligth Generator (daily)- 550 rep
Kill any 20 of the mobs at the same place as the above quest.

Race quests-550 each for first 5, 1100 for 6th
At this level you also unlock the Race quests. Basically this is a series of 6 quests where you try to fly behind each of the riders and not get knocked off by the bombs/magic/meteors they throw at you. The first 5 aren't too bad once you learn how to avoid their attacks. The final race is either really rough or bugged at the moment, because if you aren't right on top of the guy he'll despawn. The others you could get a little range to dodge at least. Also a riding crop/pally aura makes this a lot easier since he's faster than you, reward is a +10% mount speed trinket.

Revered-

The greatest trap ever (daily) (3 man group)- 550 rep
You are told that you need to lead a group of dragonmaw to attack the aldor(scryer) base, once there you talk to a few npc's then start an attack. You will have 8 non elite npc's assisting you and 1 elite npc, your goal is to keep the elite npc alive while fending off all the dragonmaw. There are several waves of these guys so just try to dps them down as best you can. Right now the quest is bugged due to the fact that all the mobs are mounted so melee dps is kind of worthless against them. The battle takes place literally 3 steps from the graveyard so it isn't hard to just walk over and rez if you die.

Repeat these till exalted and enjoy your mount

*note for those trying to calculate the time it will take for rep grinds, I left out several steps in the talk to this guy then the guy right beside him quests, as well as the trinket upgrade quests at each reputation level.

I noticed while bumbling around the edges of cliffs in blades edge that Netherwing Eggs can appear on the spires. The ones I saw were around some named Black Dragons, presumably for the Ogre rep.

I noticed while having a quick play on the PTR that I was able to mine Nethercite Ore before actually visiting the Dragonmaw Base Camp (although I do have 300 riding and had picked up the "In Service of the Illidari" quest), and that the ore was not soulbound.

Are people who do not yet have 300 riding skill and thus are unable to start the quest chain going to be able to farm ore, crystals and pollen to sell to those who DO have the skill and are working on the quest chain? If so, it's going to be a definite opportunity to make some epic riding skill money by selling to the "omg must have it first!" crowd..

So if you're Scryer then you attack the Aldor base and vice versa if you're Aldor?

Netherdrake is a cool mount, definitely much bigger than any of the other ingame mounts so far - I'd say at least twice as big as almost every other mount. Its also cool when you hover in air since they flap their wings while hovering and make a nice sound.

However, the questline isn't really that hard. I'd say a good 5% of every server will have the drake by the end of the first week of 2.1.0, and by the end of the first month I'd expect 15% or so and tapering off at 30-40% within a few months. Definitely makes the armored netherdrake a lot more special however, given how few people will have it.

The Nether Ray is also not that difficult, just lots of mostly-solo quests. It'll be interesting to see if Blizzard puts in more constraints on farming these given how fast people have got them on the PTR.

How do you figure that when the vast majority of the rep grind is comprised of daily quests?

I'm really looking forward to the netherdrake mount, but definitely not looking forward to trying to start on the rep grind immediately post patch. It's going to look pretty crowded, especially with non bop quest items encouraging additional farming.

Do the previous quests close off when you progress rep level? In other words, can you still do the pollen quest when you are revered?

I have a question regarding the daily quests. Since we can do them once a day each, this means that the maximum inital quests you can do are 3 normal quests and 3 gathering profession based quests? So for someone with no gathering professions and neutral rep, they can only do the 3 normal quests gaining 750 rep per day?

Performing rough calculations based on that being true , it seems a non-human, non-gatherer would take 20 days of performing all the available non-profession based daily quests to reach exhaulted. I included the one time quests that you listed in my calculations. I also assumed all the previous level rep quests were available at higher levels. If there are more quests that give a bit of rep(talk to this guy, etc.) you could maybe shave a day off that.

Is it possible to turn in the profession based quests without being that profession?

It won't be crowded at all, you need 300 riding skill to start the quest line.

I think this is a legitimate cause for complaint when 5000g is required for end-game content. It's one thing on a luxury-type item, but when you need it to get to lore content that is a different thing entirely.

I remember seeing a new named Bloodelf in the scryer camp (wearing hunter teir 4 + gladiator axe), so I presume this is the aldor's target for the attack.

EDIT: @ Vontre. I tend to agree here. Didn't really see a problem with having to have 300 riding skill to get a netherdrake, but now I'm seeing a lot of very ineteresting lore that a lot of people will miss out on potentially =/

People who care about lore can get 5k gold without any problems. Kill some random mobs, sell drops and you will hit it eventually.

They won't "miss out" on anything it will just take them longer to get there.

I saw a new NPC in the Aldor camp with very distinctive armor as well. Don't remember the name.

I missed out on the lore aspect of killing Kel'Thuzad. This doesn't seem different to me. In the one case, you need to be able to raise 5000g, in the other case you need to be in a guild that can clear Naxx.

EDIT: And to be clear, I think it's fine in both cases.

My comrades are my weapons, and I am their shield.

Fair enough, I suppose the ones that care but cant get the gold will read these forums and wikis etc to find out all of the details.

I think casual is just another way of saying "I can't be bothered to do this with an organized group." I'd think the netherdrake line qualifies as casual content, even though it requires more individual work than downing any raid boss out there. Maybe thats jaded, but I think its a good way to roll it out, otherwise this would be THE way to get a mount without spending 5000 gold.

Couldn't they let you do the quest anyway, and just not give you the drake at the end until you pay for the riding skill?

I found this to be a pretty funny part of the quest.
# There is total of six different races you have to do, a basic chase hunt after a gryphon rider in which he will throw stuff at you to slow you down. For an amusing Blizzard humor They have added Wing-Commander Iceman from AV in which he yells "Three years I spent in that hellhole, three years a prisoner of war to that damnable frostwolf clan. Made to sit in their tower and listen to them endlessly whine about the bridge to Dun Baldr and how it isn't fair blah blah blah War isn't fair!"

2.1 Quest Discussion

This may not deserve its own thread, but can anybody give a ballpark figure on the total gold rewards from the new quest lines that don't require an epic mount?

A target bankroll number for acquiring an epic mount post-questing would be great to have, especially since it sounds like the Netherdrake repeatables are going to be a cash cow for those with epic mounts.

Please prune if deemed unhelpful.

Anyone know why you can chose every color but the purple drake for free? Also if that was even intended?

Eh? I believe I saw a ! over every drake's head when I got back to Shatt. I can't say for certain, but I'm fairly sure you could pick any drake that was sitting in the lower city.
