BoP recipies and Master Looter - no go

I'm not sure if this has been reported before but seeing as not even bluetracker seems to have picked up the posting I'll move into the line of fire. Delete/move if redundant.

The question has been posed several times: What happens if you have master loot on an a BoP recipie drops which requires a profession the master looter does not have ? All GM answers so far have been that this wouldn't be a problem. But it seems that this is not the case.

I can confirm that this is actually true at the minute - If a master looter does not have the required profession when a BoP recipe drops, then that item will be unlootable.

We have recently implemented a fix to correct this problem, and it will be pushed out with patch 2.1.0, which will be with us Soon(tm).

Following the thread there you will see a link to a bluepost claiming the opposite.

This is not a problem for my group, as we're running with FFA since BWL. For others, you might want to consider this until fixed.

We have verified internally that master looter works with BOP recipes.

(I posted the same thing in the thread there but it seems to get ignored now). What I've always understood was that if a recipe dropped, either the ML could see and assign them to a raidmember, or that the raidmember(s) with the appropriate profession got a group loot pop-up.

They have stated that even when the ML does not have the relevant profession, and a BoP recipe drops, the ones in the raid with that profession would get a rollbox on the BoP recipe for that profession.

Isn't this basically saying ML doesn't work with recipes? Since ML is the counter-measure to ninja looting, and it can hardly prevent it in this case.

Yeah, pretty much results in FFA rolling, but I guess it's better than letting the stuff rot

Hmm interesting. This does indicate how this is implemented under the hood. Rather than creating extra loot elegibility tables for each relevant profession there is just one list and a check per participant if it becomes visible. Hence the MLer issue. If there were separate tables they could just pop up differently for the master looter which certainly would be the cleaner solution.

FFA does fine in a raid environment (where there's plenty of trust), unless you get really unlucky with a new app or something. Used FFA since MC with no ninja looting.

Personally I rather let them have those ~3, probably mostly useless due to randomness, items and get rid of them straight away, rather than not trusting my fellow raiders.

I can confirm that at least Formula: Enchant Weapon - Mongoose CAN currently be looted even though the ML does not have the enchanting profession.

This happened to us about two weeks ago. I cannot remember exactly, but I think that we did not get a roll box, the item was simply visible on the corpse (and lootable) by enchanters in the raid. I cannot recall if we had ML threshold set to epic or rare, this might have affected it.
