Maybe this will make you feel better. Last year I was playing for a long time in an Alliance guild. I left for the summer, and when I came back in the fall, one of our long time Warlocks was gone. When I asked what happened to him, here's what I was told:
- Player A decided to quit playing WoW.
- In order to make sure she didn't change her mind, she disenchanted all her epic gear.
- She asked in guild chat if anyone wanted the resulting crystals/dust/etc. Player B spoke up. She mailed all the stuff to player B.
- At this point her character is naked in Ironforge.
- She breaks up with her boyfriend, who just happens to be the owner of this account - nobody really knew this, but she was playing on his account.
- Boyfriend logs in, sees Player A naked, and (it's unclear here) either figures his account was hacked, or is pissed at his ex-girlfriend and reports it to Blizzard.
- Blizzard permabans player B for hacking. Game over!
So if you only end up with a 5 day suspension or whatever, maybe you should just breathe a sigh of relief that it wasn't something much stupider that happened to you.
