I know. Therefore since he's reapplying it on average every 29 seconds, he is a) not using full 5-point SnDs and b) not keeping it up all the time.

On Mag, he reapplied it 20 times in 12 minutes; 35.9 seconds on average. On Gruul #2, he did much better, only reapplying it 6 times -- every 57 seconds -- although with his previous record with it leaves me wondering if he wasn't actually keeping it up but just reapplying it once a minute.
2 - Blade Flurry. It's on a 2-minute cooldown, yet he only used it once on each of the 6-minute Gruul kills and twice in the 12-minute Mag kill.
2a - Adrenaline Rush - 5-minute cd, used once on a 12 minute mag and not at all on Gruul #2.
3 - Mark of Conquest is not a PvE trinket.
4 - He would benefit from using +hit gems instead of +crit on his gear.
You're correct about these points. Number of the people in those WWS reports are newer trialists, and some of them have been a bit underperforming. (Brosmo, Arpy, Euqris, etc.) I'll pass that feedback along, although I somewhat suspect that our class leader(s) have talked to him about those issues recently. I was more happy with his performance this recent Gruul/Mag than in previous weeks, so improvement is always good.

I really do wish that the combat log would track re-applications of things rather than ignore it as it does currently. Makes it extremely hard to track certain things, such as S&D or Shield Block uptime.

Or he doesnt want it to run off at all, reapplying it every 30sec sharp?

If that were the case, you wouldn't see any "gains slice and dice" events in the log, since 29 < 30.45. ie, he would have reapplied it 1.45 seconds before it even wore off.

Maybe he figured it wasnt worth reapplying when it was 4sec left of the fight? There might be several reasons why it shows up like that, it doesnt mean he did a bad job.

Don't think it needs too much debating, I can confirm that he was doing a sub-optimal job.

Rogue help pls

here are the stats from a Kara run last night
http://www.lossendil.com/wws/?report=iz31pq4hfcpo3

From a rogue standpoint I feel I don't do a great job of CP utilization when it comes to SND
does anyone know of a mod like the riposte now - for SND?

the other thing I don't feel like I am the best at is gear/gem choices - so based on the gear I am wearing - what could/should I change - and how would it impact my raid dps?
http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Drak'thul&n=Evilwood

along those same lines I have daggers in the bank - from Prince, and Emerald Ripper, as well as another sword King's Defender - and probably pretty much all the other leather gear drops from Kara except BP from Bane. I am not tied to a specific spec - combat wise - would just love some pointers based on experience people have.

Ideally I want to improve my DPS for Gruul, and Mag, and then for SSC in the next couple of weeks.

Hopefully I can take what I learn here and pass useful information on to my felllow rogues.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

I picked at the Nightbane parse because it's a nice long fight:

1. Demand access to that shaman. Your casters have a shadow priest already (?), screw em if they want mana totem too.
2. Stop using Anesthetic Poison.
3. 190ish hit rating is way too low. Replace your shifting nightseyes with some glinting noble topaz or rigid dawnstones.
4. Rupture rupture rupture.
5. Reenchant your bracers with 24ap.

Well, for rogue DPS, you want to try and stack as many offensive stats as you can. With that in mind, try and cut out all of the blue gems from your gear but two (for meta gems), and put those in gear that will net you DPS socket bonuses. Get a Thundering Skyfire Diamond meta gem rather than the one you have, change out the 8 agi gems for 16 AP gems, and fill any yellow sockets you happen to have (for example the two in your shoulders) with +8 hit gems. Ideally for raiding your hit rating should be around 250+.

A Cobrascale enchant on your legs would greatly help DPS, as well as 24 AP on bracers and two mongooses for your weapons (might want to wait if you're getting an arena weapon in season two though).

Pick up Improved Slice and Dice, it is one of the best DPS talents in the rogue talent trees. Also, the points past 3 in Lightning Reflexes are a waste for DPS, and if you can live without riposte, that frees up a bunch of points you can throw around in other DPS talents.

As far as SnD cycles go, I've found that the easiest one to keep going (with 2pc tier 4, which you have) is a 1s/5r cycle. What that means is you hit the mob once, SnD, then build 5 CPs, rupture, then SnD again off the ruthlessness proc. If it doesn't proc, get one more CP and SnD, then repeat. This cycle isn't really effective unless you respec for improved SnD, but with the right talents and T4 set bonus it's equal to or better than other possible cycles.

Using deadly poison in your offhand will up your DPS by a significant amount, as will using rupture instead of eviscerate, especially since you seem to run with a feral druid.

Hello!

Being new at WWS, I would like to know how to interpretate this log parse ont the Prince:
http://www.lossendil.com/wws/?report=vpmiplf3jbjr5
First of all, the rogue outdps'ing me is not very well stuffed, and is usually not here.
There is instead another rogue, way better stuffed, who owns me every time by a fair margin.

I already have all my dots macro'ed to trinkets, and my shadowbolt has /stopcasting.
I was in charge of warning the raid where the infernals would land, so I delayed some dot refreshing (which might be why 32% of my dps comes from shadowbolt).
I am specced malediction, but didn't apply CoS.
I'm looking forward to next week to see if I would dps more with CoS.

My question is how can I get better at dps (apart from refreshing my dots just after they fade), and is it normal that the rogues dps more than me, even though they have to flee from the nova? I am not bitching, because I know I provide more utility raid-wise.
What about my itemization/enchants/gems? (I had greatsowrd of horrid dreams with a +40 dmg)

Do you have any advice for me? You can find my stats and stuff at the armory (though I didn't have Nathrezim at the time of the fight \o/ ).

Hydross Parse, Input Requested

Thank you very much for providing a very well run discussion forum and for this thread especially. It has served as the impetus for members of my guild to be more engaged in doing their jobs better and to that end, I present a parse to you for your critique.
http://www.sunderguild.com/logs/Serp...0-%206.13.2007

This was a pretty good kill for us but I'm sure there are things we can tighten up. We have alot of WWS parses at www.sunderguild.com/logs for various fights if anyone wants to look. For background we are just really getting started in SSC and will probably kill Morogrim tonight after beating Hydross.

Isn't Nightbane immune to rupture? Admittedly it's been a while since i've done the fight (we're still getting people keyed for SSC, so i usually give up my spot for nightbane), but i could have sworn it didn't work on him.

We finally got a WWS for Gruul worth posting. Even still, one of our affliction locks is just absolutely sucking. He scrapes the bottom of the charts on almost every fight, and is now officially permanent Bloodpact bitch. His DPS time is always close to 100%, due to DoT's, but for the life of me I can't figure out what to tell him.

In any case, dropping him, the prot DPS warrior, and the hunter who had never seen the fight before for more experienced DPS and we may catch EJ's 4 growth kill.

http://www.lossendil.com/wws/?report...xg&s=4169-4447

Anyone have any idea what to do with the affliction lock?

At a quick glance, it seems like he's not doing a very good job of refreshing his DoTs. For example, he only put up immolate 6 times (1.5 minutes of DoT ticking) in a 4 minute fight. Only 8 Unstable Afflictions (2 minutes), barely 3 minutes of Siphon Life, and so on. In short, he's specced for talents he's not using.

He also puts up Curse of Doom or Agony instead of Curse of Shadows, even though there's 2 shadow priests in the raid. (And another warlock, but he's destro and using fire spells.)

If he is then Im going to get banned for haxxing it onto him. After making Attumen/Midnight and Moroes immune I wouldnt be surprised it they tuck it into a patch somewhere :/

Rupture (Physical) 28 718 7 % 121 237 300

His skeletons are immune though.

I'm trying to help improve guild DPS, got permission from our guild leader to post an anonymous log of our Gruul kill from Wednesday (yes, it's ours, I compared the main chart side by side, the date matches, the raid dps matches (1 off, oddly, but the individual damage numbers match)

http://lossendil.com/wws/?report=vl5...qq&s=7560-8036

(I'm the 2nd hunter on there, listed as "Lapetus")

And because it's helpful if you know approximate specs, here's the list, in damage done order: (The specs are as I found them on armory, with a few changes where I know someone respecced since the Gruul kill and am 99% sure of previous spec)
  • Rhea - BM Hunter
  • Lapetus - BM Hunter (this is me)
  • Ganymede - SV Hunter
  • Basai - Assassination Rogue
  • Thetys - MM Hunter
  • Imperio - Arcane/Fire Mage
  • Obliviate - Fire Mage
  • Ashra - Arms/Fury (MS) Warrior
  • Dew - Balance Druid
  • Fog - Feral Druid
  • Sachiel - Destruction Warlock
  • Haze - Feral Druid
  • Nox - Fire Mage
  • Khamsa - Prot Warrior (MT)
  • Horcrux - Arcane Mage
  • Arbaa - Prot Warrior (OT)
  • Phobos - BM Hunter
  • Polyhymnia - Holy Priest
  • Aquarius - Holy Paladin
  • Melpomene - Disc/Holy Priest
  • Quesse - Resto Shaman
  • Cirrus - Resto Druid
  • Euterpe - Holy Priest
  • Mist - Resto Druid
  • Aries - Holy Paladin

Of note - we don't have a shadow priest in this raid. We're working on remedying that, we have 1 raiding SPriest at the moment, one of our other priests is respeccing to shadow.

This was a 16 kill gruul fight, partly because some people died, partly because we're always having DPS problems (last week's was a 14 kill with only one person dying, and that person getting a quick battle rez)

Note: I didn't see anything against using anonymous logs when I searched the thread, apologies if I'm not supposed to.

It makes it hard to armory people.
Commentary on the druids: Moonkin; IS, Moonfire, wrath, and starfire? Assuming CoS is up, and mana is an issue (with no shadowpriest, it almost certainly is), probably better off just going Starfire + Insect Swarm. I cant tell if hes keeping up improved farie fire.. if he isnt, poke him untill he does, none of your melee are hitcapped (and one of your hunters isnt either?), so that alone would be worth 100+ raid dps.
Ferals: Abysmal skill use. "Fog" mangles and keeps rake up - Rake is never a worthwhile use of energy, its sole purpose is to annoy rogues in pvp. and he doesnt shred at all. Make him spec shredding attacks if he wants to dps in raids, It's not an optional talent. "haze" at least shreds, but he also rakes and has a claw in there. The key to cat dps is expending as much of your energy income as possible shredding a target with a mangle debuff on it, (not nessesarily your own..) Tell them to just remove claw and rake from their keybinds and bars.

You need an enhancement shaman, too. They're key!

EDIT: Look at it this way -- if you're wondering how to boost your RDPS, and you don't have an enhance shaman/shadow priest, that would be the place to start.

I hadn't realized the hitcapping problem on some of my fellow hunters since I keep having problems of pushing too far over the hitcap on my own gear. Thanks for pointing that out, yeah imp. faerie fire should do a lot for us. We had previously thought it wouldn't help much (and being so used to not needing more +hit I was in the "we don't really need it" camp)

My first post in the thread, pretty standard morogrim kill.

Notes about the log:
It was actually started about 97%(almost forgot), and for some reason SW: D is listed as a mob rather than a player spell. Also I think Trukilla forgot to switch out his gear, because I'm 99% sure he's hit-capped.

Overall I was really pleased with the dps, although it is a bit skewed by the mass of aoe present in the fight. I'm not that pleased with one of the paladin's healing(even though he died early), he seems to be awfully lacking in Holy Light usage, but then again I'm not extremely familiar with paladin healing.

Socket correctly. 9 +damage > 4 crit/5 +damage for affliction warlocks. And do not socket spell penetration. Ever. Screw socket bonuses unless they're beneficial to your dps (i.e. screw those +sta socket bonuses).

Make some Bracers of Havok socketed with 9 +damage and enchanted with 15 +damage. I'm not sure if the Spellstrike set would be better than what you have, but I think so (check for yourself with the spreadsheet: www.leulier.com).

If you have money/time, getting CE and Scryers to exalted would net you some dps as well, the exalted CE ring is niiice for boss fights, and the added +dmg from the Scryer exalted shoulder enchant as well.

CoD > CoA, especially when you don't have imp CoA, so you could switch to that. I didn't bother checking with the spreadsheet to see if a Maledicted CoS would be better dps, you could check that yourself :-). Also, in a 4.34min fight you have Corr/UA up for 216 seconds (79%), and immolate up for 135 seconds (49%). I'd really suggest getting a dot timer, DoTimer is nice.

Apart from this I doubt you'll see higher numbers without a shadow-priest in the raid. Most of the parses you'll see here are with Misery, Shadow Weaving and CoS on the target, which naturally would give a lot higher dps.

Sorry if this was a bit blunt, but you could've figured out all of this for yourself by reading other warlock-critiques in this thread =P
