I haven't seen this touched on here and I'm a little curious how guilds are handling the distribution of said gems? They seem to drop commonly, but not nearly enough to start throwing them in just anything.

I guess there's a couple of ways to do this:

A) Use immediately in T5 or equal quality gear for maximum raid dps/hps/regen. The gems will eventually be replaced with BT items that will most likely have to be re-gemmed. (Note: Some items will transcend their T5 status and become equal or better to BT items when gemmed)

B) Save them for T6 quality loot only. Loot X item, get X gem with it. This could lead to a huge stockpile of potentially useful gems wasting away as socketed items are few and far between in BT.

C) Charge DKP for them and allow people to do whatever they want with them. (ex: Arena Gear . Most BT guilds have competitive 5v5 teams, and the extra stats add up)

Thoughts?

EDIT: What are some T4/T5 items that outpace T6 loot when gemmed with epic quality gems?

Generally speaking, given away for free if:
- T6 or equal, do we need to question this?
- T5 and equal if proven equal/better then other loot on the slot.
- Gems for "best item on slot in game" (my favourite piece are Edgewalker Longboots, they can exceed Black Featherlight Boots for Rogues with epic gems)

Anything beyond that... you get them after all other got em for the mentioned reasons.

Were hording them till people get t6 loot, the main problem so far is that you need revered with scale of the sands for the best gems, thats probably another 3/4+ hyjal clears :/

Yea. Hopefully the patch that introduces rep & items for trash is coming soon.

Out of curiousity, just how many gems do you guys have saved up?

I'd assume we are far beyond 100 gems. Simply because we farmed the trash before Mother Shahraz for a week to get enough Heart of Darkness for resistance gear.

We are saving them for whichever pieces we aren't upgrading soon. For some it's tier 6, for others its the off set piece equivalent.

We do the following:

-Charge a minimal amount of DKP.
-Require it goes into raiding gear only for now.
-Require that it go into T5 or equiv raiding gear for now
-Limit to 1 gem per person per raid for now.

Up until 1-2 weeks ago we could only cut the red/blue/yellow gems, and the only interest was for the red (damage/healing) or blue (stam for tanks).

I'd say the first 3 weeks we had shortages of reds/blues obviously, but not an insane amount of demand for them because of the rules we had in place. We also have a huge stockpile of Yellow/Purp/Green and we managed to get the 10 resil patern that dropped and we're using all but half of our yellows in stock for those and selling them on the AH.

These days we have a few leftover reds/blues after raids that nobody wants. All of our restrictions will likely be removed once we get a surplus of reds/blues.

So you're selling them for raid costs before PvPers get them. Interesting.

How much on average does one of those sell for on the AH? (the 10 resilience gem)

You have a point, but on some servers this may not be the case for awhile.

On Turalyon, there is only 1 Horde guild (us) and 1 Alliance guild who are in BT. There is no other guild who is even close. No other guild has even touched Vashj yet, let alone even considered the gateway mob that is Kael'thas.

For us, we are safe on this for at least 3-4 weeks before we have to worry about the market being breached by others, and even then, the chances of them selling the gems will be slim to none since they won't have a surplus for awhile.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think we get ~300g per 10 resil gem. The pattern itself is a bit rare since it drops off Azgalore I think. We're the only alliance guild on Mal'Ganis doing BT/Hyjal so we feel now is the best time to take advantage of this and rebuild our guild bank.

We had it drop off Rage a few nights ago, so I am inclined to believe the bop jc patterns are on a shared loot table with all hyjal bosses.

So that's about 7 full clears to get revered. Considering most guilds avoid Hyjal like the plague, you're looking at ~3 months before you can craft some of the best gems.

That's pretty stupid.

here is to hoping they implement the patch with rep and trash drops soon. Lord knows I've been crying about no cloak upgrades for Paladins for weeks now!!!


Devil's Advocate : How many wipes do you forsee if you get 3 random drops on one wave?

Paladins too? I've been wondering where the hell the tank capes are at, there's the one from Al'ar and thats about it through all of t5 and t6 dungeons from what I have been able to find so far. Oh well devilshark cape it is I guess... Unless of course there is something undiscovered so far from encounters with rather unpopulated loot tables (mother shahraz, illidari council etc)

That's what I'm wondering about once they do add rep and drops to Hyjal trash. Seems to me it would be worth it to clear seven waves, wipe on the eighth, and repeat continously.

The only 'fix' I could see Blizzard adding for that would be to have trash yield an extremely low amount of rep.

Should be possible to make some flag system so that when rage's wave 2 is spawned, all future rage wave 1 won't give rep I suppose. But i'm a bit afraid about trash drop though, it's not like you really have time to manage loot while doing this trash, wonder how it will work out =)

Just have a warrior ML it while tanking, should be easy enough to deal with. Distribute items in between waves.
