Raid group compositions/make up
Short version: I'm looking to see how people create their groups in the 25 man raids.
Long version: I haven't really been pleased with how my guild has been creating groups and I'm trying to create solid evidence on best practices for solid raid DPS. We're a bit on the low end in progression, yet managing decently. We have quite a few hybrids in our raids. One, maybe two, enhancement shamans, a moonkin, and one to two feral druids. For an idea of raid composition our numbers are something like this: (Tonight at Lurker) G1: Feral Druid OT Rogue MM Hunter MS Warrior Rogue G2: Holy Paladin Rogue 2x Healing (Spec unknown) priests BM Hunter G3: 2x Prot warriors Resto Shaman Warlock Resto Druid G4: Resto Shaman 2x Mage Balance Druid Warlock G5: 2x Healing spec'd priests Holy Paladin Resto Shaman Warlock If our Enhancement Shaman was on, he'd probably have been in G1 in place of the Hunter, MM Hunter would be in G2, Rogue in G2 wouldn't have been in raid. To explain, the rogue is new and doesn't quite have gear to keep up with anyone really in terms of DPS. Doesn't even know the fights at that. The Enhancement Shaman(s) refuse to drop WF totems because "it does nothing for the group" even if it was 4 warriors and him. Don't even get me started on that part. Another time we had this for Hydross: G1: Feral Druid OT 2x Prot Warriors Warlock Resto Druid G2: 2x Warlocks Shadow Priest 2x Mage G3: Enhancement Shaman (GoA again) Rogue MS Warrior Feral Druid (DPS/OT depending on current need) BM Hunter G4: Light Well Priest 3x MM Hunter Resto Shaman G5: 2x Paladin Resto Shaman 2x Healing spec'd Priest Under normal circumstances, I'd say we have two feral druids, two prot warriors, three resto shamans, one enhancement (four total with Enh), three hunters (all three builds too), two rogues, two priests, one shadow priest (four total again), one MS warrior, two mages, two warlocks, two paladins, balance druid, resto druid. Roughly about that give or take as examples given above. Anyway, the point is that it's quite frustrating seeing these terrible group makeups that do nothing like BM Hunter with healers. Some times it seems like they try to build a super melee group, super caster group, then just mix up what ever is left to possibly resemble a decent group. Mind you, I have little control over this at the moment which is why I'm looking for pointers on ways to improve groups and raid DPS as a whole. I know for a fact that if I have enough evidence that they're sucking at making groups, they might change up a bit. I guess one last note would be how every person there is concerned about being number one on damage meters instead of how to increase the overall performance. The one time I did convince a shaman to drop WF, the DPS in the group went up by about 300 due to the MS warrior and two rogues making out like bandits. I'll work on trying to convince the Shamans that WF is highly superior to any other totem they drop with threads I found out about that though. Any other pointers would be greatly appreciated. |
I doubt this topic will last, but:
This is assuming every member is avaible for us: G1: Prot warrior Tree Druid Prot Warrior Holy Paladin(swap a resto shaman from g3 if the tanks need windfury) Warlock G2: Rogue Rogue Melee Shaman Fury Warrior Feral Druid G3: Holy Paladin Holy Paladin Holy Priest Resto Shaman Holy Priest G4: Mage Mage Warlock Warlock Shadow Priest G5: Shadow Priest Bm Hunter Bm Hunter Bm/surv Hunter Resto Shaman This is how I see our playerbase, but I dont lead the raids so It differs with attendance and bosses ofc |
In the Hydross make-up I would have put the LW priest in G5, feral OT in G4 and probably a paladin from G5 to G1. This gives you devotion aura in G1 and +5 crit aura for your hunters. The the resto shaman in G4 can buff whole group with GoA.

Yep, just too much overlap here.
