What lengths have you gone to to make a raid?

So, my family just moved today, but I very much wanted to make tonight's kara run so that Moroes could drop his shitty cloaks for us again.

Earlier this week, too, my desktop decided to fry, leaving me waiting for new parts from ZZF to arrive.

This is the result:

Focus: What's the furthest you've ever gone to make a raid? This is intended to be a light-hearted/humorous thread

I killed a man once. I'd rather not say any more about it though.

Leading a raid at my brothers 16th birthday dinner.

Back-Story

My parents only told me the night before that we were going to celebrate my brothers birthday. I have in the past asked them to give me a weeks notice so I can get someone else to lead the raid & prep them up etc. I didn't like leaving the group in the lurch.

Because they had given me so little notice, I said that I would be there to celebrate his birthday but that when we were not eating (eg before and after dinner) that I would be leading the raid from my laptop at their house. They knew I lead raids on a Wednesday & had been for months.

In Fall 2005, my guild was working on Nefarian as one of the top Horde guilds in the world (at that point). We were perfecting Phase 1 (you had to, because a Phase 2 wipe was GG for the night), and a girl I'd been seeing (but wasn't really into) showed up at my door wanting to hang out. I told her I was busy and this wasn't a good time. She leaned over, saw WoW running on my computer and was like, "Are you shitting me?" I apologized and told her she should go. That was the end of that.

I'm English and raid and lead an American guild. Raid times for me are 1am>6am and I wake up at 4pm every day except Saturday when I have to wake up at 8am for work. It's a rough life but one I enjoy.

Skipped high school prom to make MC way back when. But in my defense I didn't even like my date.

The list is endless but I think that's the highlight .

Last summer my guild was working on the drakes in BWL, a day or two before this particular raid we had killed Firemaw and then were moving on to the other drakes. So it was a pretty important raid and I really wanted to be there. At about 7pm the night of our raid my cable goes out and the raid starts at 8. I give it about 10-15 minutes and restart the modem a couple of times and have no luck, so I pack up my laptop(which is what I normally played on) keyboard/mouse/headset and decide to leave for Barnes and Noble and use the wireless internet in their cafe.

It's about a 15 minute drive their and I'm cutting it pretty close on time and we're pretty strict about invites only going out to those who are on line in time, so as I'm driving I unpack my laptop turn it on and get WoW and vent open and everything ready so I get can right on once I've got internet.

So I get there get online and raid fine for the first 3 hours of the raid, but turns out Barnes and Nobles closed an hour earlier then I thought, at 11. With the raid still having an hour left and us making huge progress and getting close to a kill on Ebonroc I wasn't going to call it quits. So in between wipes I make my way outside to my car, losing connection periodically and drive around looking for a spot to park where I can still get wireless internet, I find one and I'm good... Until about 11:30, when my laptops battery starts to die. So I get out of the car with my headset on and look around the back of the building for a power outlet, find one, plug in, continue the raid and get to see Ebonroc die.

This thread is internet gold.

The best I can say is the standard "avoiding family" dinners and stuff of that nature. Please, more stories.

Last week we were going for Kael, 3rd night or something. We generally have a huge problem getting 4/6 of our locks to show up (using lots of SoC spam on weapons, so we want them in) and have been giving them alot of heat for skipping raids.

Raidtime comes, and only 3 locks online, so we go with it.

15 minutes into the raid a fourth warlock logs on, starts yelling like mad about cops and stuff. Turns out he sprinted to his car from work, speeded home, got caught by the police, got fined like $300, then proceeded to drive home as fast as possible (within the legal limit), but still missed the raid by 15 mins. A for Effort atleast

My own stories are mostly just dodging family stuff, dates and alike, nothing earthshattering.

I've missed more movies with friends than I care to count due to WoW raiding. Don't have anything special, though. I was once hanging out at a friend's house across town and didn't realize it was raid time, so I ran over to another friend's house(who owned WoW) and ganked his computer while he was taking a shit to run Onyxia.

Birth/birthday(s) of my 2 youngest cousins... 2 years and I still havent seen them, missed final exams to play WoW(First time to PvP, second time because I raided late-night) TWICE.
To justify myself, I've applied for a third try at my 2nd year in school now.

Yes, I'm the captain of the failboat.

I take most of my classes online. I tend to procrastinate and then prioritize raiding over my soul sucking classes.

I'm in NZ and raid with a US CST guild ... raiding on Christmas Day not so good for family relations.

edit: I also bailed on friends on New Year's Eve because I didn't want to be a complete wreck for raiding on New Year's Day as well.

We have actually raided at christmas day, but it was only Onyxia

When I moved away from my parents to my first own apartment I didn't have any internet connection the first weeks, so I had to go 100km one-way to raid, did it 3-4 times :/

When I was doing BWL/AQ40 with a guild that is now disbanded, I would have to get out of class exactly when it ended or I wouldn't make it in time to catch the light rail and then I'd miss the bus that would take me home and subsequently be late for the raid by enough time that it would be filled up. My last class of the day was taught by a professor who loved to go over time by upwards of 5 to 10 minutes. Fortunately me and him were cool and he didn't care if I left when class time ended.

Nothing particularly incredible beyond rarely skipping a night out to lead a particularly important raids, but particularly in EQ some of the things we did so we could raid are incredible - playing 3 different classes at the same time, or running this stupid instance that was required for raid attunement nonstop to make sure everyone was attuned; imagine heroic shattered halls pre-nerf now make it 100x worst (Tipt, for those that remember).

I moved to Europe from NZ and tried to keep raiding with soulbound. But I couldn't handle 1am starts.

Great thread.

Personally I've been needed to lead SSC raids when on buisness but the hotel had no internet access. Ended up sitting in a bar around the corner which has wireless access and leading the raid trying to be heard on TS above the din of the bar background noise. We beat Hydross and the beer was good!

A friend of mine (who should remain namless) didn't come to a big new years eve party because he couldnt leave his Battleground PVP for one night due to the High Warlord grind. We had a great time at the party and shortly after the midnight toast logged on out of interest.... and sure enough there he was online in the battlegrounds.

Well I guess everyone took a day off work or school to do whatever. Hell I did for sure. But one thing I never did, let WoW come in front of exams or RL events, like birthdays or girlfriend stuff.
No raid would be more important, than anything in my real life. For example I "missed" our first nefarian kill (way too long ago), because I drove home to my sisters 12th birthday.

"...gone missing."
