1:47pm: Will green items in Northrend be better than Tier 4? Yes, we do expect to see the same kind of progression. We were happy overall with the way it worked. If you're decked out in Illidan gear or the new raid zone that I can't mention just yet that will be out before the expansion (!), that gear will last you a while. But players like upgrades early and often.
New raid zone out before the expansion?
Hoorayy....Naxxramass 2.0....
Even if the next expansion comes out in 6 months, without a new raid zone, a whole guild, alts and everything would be T6 geared, producing a ton of turnover.
So do we except it to be a T7 raid or something just above T6?
Didn't they add a lot of emerald dream stuff in some recent patch?
I really hope the new raid instance referenced isn't Zul'Aman.
With him comparing Illidan loot to the "new raid zone", I think it's safe to assume it's not Zul'aman, because ZA's loot level should be on par with tier 5 gear. He also mentions how it's a new raid zone that he cannot mention yet.

Kil'jaeden has already been mentioned months ago as being a post-Illidan raid boss. There will probably be a second raid zone associated with that (like the MH/BT split).

Given that the intro information for the next expansion specifically mentions Ner'zhul being under Kil'Jaeden, I can't see them killing off Kil'Jaeden before the expansion.
As loud as I tried to be asking for a new class last expansion, I'm just not feeling it now.
What is bothering me, though, is the fact that the level cap is being raised *only* to 80. WoW is entering its golden years. Figuring that, to date, the lifespan of an MMORPG, given technological advances and playstyle advances, has been about 10 years, all told. About 6 before the developers are forced to engineer a new engine.
We've been told that we wouldn't be fighting Arthas until "Well over level 100" (At least, I believe it was Arthas).
Also, level 100 would allow for a comprehensive balancing of the classes at once, rather than dealing with things like "Rage Normalization" that tend to present themselves as issues in the latter part of any given expansion.

Know your lore, Ner'zhul broke free from Kil'Jaeden and betrayed the Legion. He hasn't been a pawn or minion of Kil'Jaeden and the legion for a while, especially now that he has a new host(Arthas).

Used to be under Kil'Jaeden..
That said, I personally have never heard anything official about a Kil'Jaeden raid and I'm usually pretty well-informed on these matters. Depending on the projected release date of WotLK, I think seeing Tier 7 instances is pretty unlikely.

I think the quote was that level 60s wouldn't be prepared for Arthas. Possibly 70s. But.. I guess 80s are.
And even if it were otherwise, it's not like Blizzard is really known for sticking by years-old quotes. Illidan was supposed to be in at the original release, after all..

Will be amazing, if true.
You gotta remember that the statement saying we wouldn't kill Arthas till level 100 was under the old combat system, in which our health was low. Since then things have changed, we are now twice if not three times as powerful as we were at 60.
And what is it stopping the designers to take the limits off the current engine for future expansions? Like when the game first came out, FPS was capped at 100, now its 1000 capped. It's those little changes that make the game better, and we don't see them. And the way graphics are designed and rendered make the game the way it is, so expect changes continually there. We've already seen some in the way Flame effects are done in Northrend.

From the Computer Gaming magazine that had the annoucements of Zul'Aman, Voice Chat, and Guild Banks.

Why does something as arbitrary as what level you are matter in any way?
1:43pm: With Level 70, will there be 51 point talent trees, and what's the ETA? It'll come out "when it's ready" (DUH). Won't be today. We certainly do expect to extend talent trees, so 51 point talents, and Death Knight will have three talent trees of their own. It's not our goal to make talents get stronger down the trees-- we want to give players more freedom rather than just choosing a tree.
I really hope they stick with this in practice rather than halfheartedly as in the TBC expansion - putting role defining or role-essential talents as the "last tier" as was done for some classes really restricts the number of different practical character specs. It is good to hear that it is at least a consideration.
Is there something wrong with the stream?
I cant seem to get it to work.
Working for me, although there isn't much to see - they fucked up the WC3 match and now it's showing them prepping up for the class panel with horrible muzac on the background.
It would be nice if the Death Knight class had a way to drop aggro. That's been one of the major issues with dps warriors and ret paladins and possibly something that could be addressed by a new class.

Are you streaming it through Media Player, or on the Giga site?

They mentioned a new raid zone as well as new CoT instances. With the updates to Emerald Dream stuff in the 2.2 patch I could see the Emerald Dream being the new 25 man CoT instance that is released before WotLK. It's just a hunch and doesn't really fit into the current storyline, but anything is possible. I just know they know that their player base wants it and it really wouldn't fit into WotLK. With the dwarf lore being delved into in WotLK I'd be willing to bet Grim Batol and Uldum are opened in it.

I rather like the idea. Since it's after ZA (probably a good while after), it lets lots of guilds catch up in content while the ones who are deep/finished BT can relax a bit, for a while. I really do hope the other hero classes come soon, I don't know how long/much I'll be able to take of every ret paladin suddenly rolling a DK (not to mention the class forums for paladins, it's a nightmare atm).
Class panel discussion came up on the stream just now.
