Primal News Transmute [14/08/2007]
Nothing to speak of this week, just miscellaneous garbage from the PTR and live realms.
Hotfixes
- Windfury Totem will no longer trigger for any “yellow” attacks unless they are on next swing attacks, such as Heroic Strike and Cleave.

In an effort to apply some of our upcoming 2.2 changes in a more expedited manner, we're hotfixing some elements of the Archimonde encounter. Not every planned change to Archimonde could be hotfixed, the other announced changes will occur with the release of patch 2.2.
The following hotfix changes are now live:
* Archimonde now casts fear in a bit more consistent manner, roughly every 40 seconds.
* Fear's cast time is now 1.5 seconds.
* Grip of the Legion now has only a 60 yard range.
* Red Soul Charge now only silences players for 4 seconds.
The planned changes for Mother Shahraz could not be hotfixed, but we are working to resolve via hotfix the timing issue with Essence of Desire's Rune Shield and Spirit Shock. Working on that fix, we discovered that Rune Shield wasn't actually absorbing any damage. We're also working to fix that error. Since the Rune Shield is normally removed quickly, Essence of Desire still won't get much benefit out of the effect. Mages who Spell Steal the effect will be quite a bit happier, however.

Blacksmithing
* Added a new recipe for Ragesteel Shoulders that drops from an unknown creature in Shadowmoon Valley.
* Reduced the number of pieces required to get the benefits of the Ragesteel set bonus.
Engineering
* Reduced the cooldown on the engineer-made Parachute Cloak.
Quests
* Banish the Demons now rewards either a Darkrune or a Fragmented Darkrune. Five fragmented Darkrunes can be combined to create a Darkrune.
* In the Bomb Them Again quest, the cooldown of the Skyguard bombs was decreased to 5 seconds (was 10).
* In the Relic's Emanation quest, the money reward was decreased while the Ogri'la faction reward was increased.
Dungeons and Raids
Tempest Keep and Coilfang raid bosses will now all drop at least 3 items each.
Auchindoun - Heroic Sethekk Halls
* Polymorph should no longer affect the main tank.
* Auchindoun-Shadow Labyrinth
* The recast time for the Shadow Word: Pain cast by Cabal Shadow Priests has been increased.
Black Temple
* Saber Lash tanks will no longer be knocked back by Sinister Beam or hit by Fatal Attraction, even if they dodge or parry the attack.
* Mother Shahraz will now pick a new beam to cast after every 3rd beam instead of after every 5th. This means she is much less likely to cast the same beam many times in a row.
* Fatal Attraction now deals 750 damage on the first tick, 1500 on the second, 2250 on the third, and 3000 on all subsequent ticks.
* Prismatic Shield is now more fun. Specifically, Mother Shahraz now takes bonus damage from one school when she is resistant to its opposite. Her resistances now change randomly every 15 seconds and are capped at 25%.
Caverns of Time- Battle of Mount Hyjal
* The health of Jaina and Thrall have been increased again from their temporarily lowered values. They should be able to absorb quite a bit more incidental damage during the event.
* Archimonde has received several adjustments and fixes to prevent some of the harder to counter combinations of his abilities. Archimonde's Soul Charge silence has been lowered in duration to 4 seconds, and the death of the Priest with Spirit of Redemption will no longer create two Soul Charges. The casting time of Archimonde's fear has been increased to 1.5 seconds, and he should now use his Fear ability on a much more consistent interval. Archimonde will also no longer cast Grip of the Legion on very far away targets.
* Archimonde will no longer cast Grip of the Legion on targets that have just been hit with Air Burst.
Caverns of Time- Black Morass
* Increased recast time on Shadow Bolt Volley on Rift Keeper, also reduced damage on Heroic.
* Reduced hit points of Infinite Executioners on Heroic.
* Decreases the maximum possible stacks of Temporus' Mortal Wound from 10 to 7.
* Increased recast time for Temporus' Hasten spell on Heroic.
Caverns of Time- Escape from Durnholde Keep
* The composition of the pulls around the barracks in Durnholde Keep is now more consistent. Players should no longer face more than two Riflemen, or more than one Warden.
* The group of guards underneath the bridge has been removed in Heroic difficulty.
* The Thrall escort event now allows 20 tries at completing the event instead of 3.
Coilfang Reservoir: Serpentshrine Cavern
* Coilfang Priestesses no longer perform Spirit of Redemption.
* Underbog Colossus' Acid Spray is now somewhat less dangerous.
* Underbog Colossus' Spore Quake now has a shorter duration.
* Greyheart Tidecallers' Virulent poison is now less deadly.
* Serpentshrine Sporebats now charge less frequently.
* Greyheart Nether-Mages now blink less frequently.
* Serpentshrine Lurkers have had their damage output reduced.
Hellfire Citadel: Shattered Halls
* The melee damage dealt by Shattered Hand Reavers, Shattered Hand Legionnaires, Shattered Hand Heathens, and Rabid Warhounds has been reduced.

Miscellaneous Zul'Aman Info
The first boss (the Bear God) will send waves of bear-riding Trolls at you. I guess Blizzard really stopped taking themselves seriously.
So They Found The Ashbringer
Turns out you do a quest to fetch it for Tirion Fordring. That's okay, though, if it's not a mace, it's not worth using.

We don't want to tune the system so that it's matching people really well at say... prime time on an AV weekend, and then have someone wanting to play on a Wednesday night at 4AM have to wait an hour or two to find a match.
So there's really a couple contributing factors. Really first and foremost the only way we're going to be comfortable tuning the system to start forcing more specific matchups is if there's a larger number of consistent players interested in the battlegrounds. That is mostly based on the battlegrounds themselves, new battlegrounds coming, and probably ultimately how well they're incentivized. All things we're aware of, and all things that (AV changes, AFK reporting, queue changes, new battlegrounds, new rewards) we're seeing come to a solution at a single point on the horizon.
Even at some point in the future where we could potentially pull the reins in a whole lot, and attempt to force extremely specific matchups, it's never going to be perfect. I don't believe we would ever get to the point where we're going to make you wait indefinitely just so that you never see a twink again, or a premade team, or someone with better gear than yourself. At that point you wouldn't care who you're up against, you just want to get in and get your mark, or get what honor you can. Getting in and fighting in a lopsided battle IS better than not fighting at all.
It is working though, and loosely matching players up very quickly. It's one of those invisible under-the-stage mechanics though that you could easily assume does nothing at all unless it's perfect.
|
I still think that this gear matching system is terrible. I mean, all the AV games that have people with an average ilvl of 120 or greater is just going to have about 30 people AFKing on each side.

The timeway presented itself, it's an amazing opportunity to be there and experience such a major event, and Archimonde drops phat purples.

Do yourself a favour and stay away from this abomination. Everything about it is terrible, especially 'cause the main "hot chick" is actually bald and the evil "hot chick" looks like an alien. Good thing Superbad is opening this weekend!

I love how the Naxx quest for the Ashbringer says "go to the outlands" and nothing comes of it, yet suddenly it picks up on Northrend. Even a simple "oh hi, you need to go to Northrend" NPC would have been nice.
Also, where did Blizz say no voice chat in BGs, I missed that one.

EDIT: On topic how on earth do you get Exalted with all the Steamwheedle factions and Revered with Bloodsail Buccaneers? I thought if you got 1 the other decreased and vice versa.

Tranquillien is the second Belf zone, you'll get exalted about when you finish the zone, and it gives some very good rep rewards for the level.

I thought it was impossible, just like several of the other faction levels he has - but each apparantly has a path (albiet insane).
Ravenholdt - thought you had to be a rogue but seems not - but that's an insane amount of junkboxes (75 rep each?).
Darkmoon Faire - Must have turned in a lot of decks - the repeatable quest route doesn't seem possible.
Dire Maul - Since 2.0, librams award 500 rep so this would have been far easier than either Ravenholdt or Darkmoon Faire.
Gelkis/Magram - This one I don't understand.

There's a Kolkar camp in Desolace as well that rewards tiny amounts of rep to both centaur factions. And guessing based on Warla's max Honored/Honored and the priest's Revered/Honored, the Kolkar camp stops giving rep at Revered.
That's just crazy.

Important (well, not really =P) note: Warla got screwed out of one of her/his exalted factions when they removed the Wildhammer Clan faction from Alliance shortly before TBC. I imagine this would rank with some of the most annoying grinds for rep (kill trolls in Hinterlands for rep drop; 5 drops for a fairly small rep turnin). I would have been pretty pissed if they had removed it after grinding it.

There's another trick where you can have a friend kill the centaurs and only get the positive rep, while avoiding the negative rep.

And I thought I was bad for being OCD about reps (and skills too for that matter) The Armory
For the cartel there are mobs you can kill that don't lower Bloodsail rep and can raise Cartel rep (pirates outside Ratchet for example.) To finish the route to exalted I think the only way is through a couple of repeatable quests. I want to say the giants/cores quests at the docks in western Feralas, water pouches from the wastewander in Tanaris and the possibly the ogre suit maker in Dire Maul. Regardless, they're all very impressive feats of endurance. In the past, if you were grouped with someone that killed booty bay/buccaneers you would get the rep gain from the kill but not suffer the rep loss with the other. Some of the other more esoteric factions like Shen'dralar I'm not sure if you can still get to exalted or if the criteria changed. The only people I know with it at exalted did it with class books when there was the rampant chest farming in Dire Maul so they were dirt cheap.
P.S. The link is for a priest, not a mage and more impressive as he's not human so doesn't get that rep bonus.
