The following infos are coming from an interview with tigole during the Games Convention:

- Sunwell Plateau will be released before the expansion "Wrath of the Lich King", Tigole said its planned for a patch after Zul'Aman (so it might be 2.4 minimum to get it). Sunwell Plateau is a new instance which can be found in Quel'Thalas (forest region north of the continent of Lordaeron). The instance is divided in 2 parts, one of them is designed for a 25-man raid instance (said to be the most diffcult in WoW, harder than Black temple), the other part is a 5-man instance.

- Tigole talked about a new instance "Nexus" located in Borean Tundra, it should be the first instance you will zone in when entering Northrend by Borean Tundra; this instance will be divided into several wings and the hardest wing is designed for a 25-man raid. Nexus (thats the name of this new wotlk instance) is located at the top of a mountain, and you will encounter Malygyos in it, the blue dragon.

To be fair to Teza, I really only check worldofraids / mmo champion regularly when :

A> Something big is announced and there are constant updates to it (blizzcon, new patch notes, big PTR stuff etc)

B> There is the ever present race of people killing new things (black temple, hyjal)

I check EJ a few times a day.

Well, i guess we wont see Sunwell before december or something.
2.2 still on ptr and maybe ready in a week or two. After that ZA is on the ptr which takes atleast a month and sunwell testing the same.

I am kind of excited to see what the 5-man will be, obviously max-level dungeon, I wonder what the faction grind will be if it has a heroic component. I can only hope it will have requisite daily quests, and not just running the instance a billion times to get the key.

Could someone elighten me about Sunwell Plateau creatures and/or background? Im not that much of lore freak, so excuse my lack of information. What enemy would we be facing there? Trolls? The Convocation of Silvermoon as resurrected servant or something else? *Blush*

I probably wouldn't have looked for it until it appeared on mmo-champion (which is browser-friendlier for my little php proxy) and until I was at work again on Monday. So thanks for the update Teza, I appreciate having seen it here.

I think the existing heroic keying mechanism is really part and parcel of the whole leveling experience. You aren't going from Cenarion Neutral to Cenarion Revered by running Coilfang instances 100x. You get most of that rep from quests, complemented by instance runs. There's no reason they'd necessarily copy that format for a post-70 instance.

If I were in Blizzard's shoes, I'd use this 5-man as proof-of-concept for a "hard" 5-man as part of a reasonable progression. I think the last thing we need in patch 2.4 (or whenever) is another source of ilvl 112-115 blues, and I don't expect that. Especially if they're adding tons of new badge rewards (as they have promised) in 2.3, you could tune a new 5-man (nonheroic) around an expectation of gear from existing heroics (i.e. high end blues and epics, badge-bought items, crafted epics, etc.). See how it works out. Then make the heroic version (let's say, unlockable not by rep grinding but by completing a time trial clear of the nonheroic instance) another tier above that. And see how it works out.

If it works, then it can serve as a model for a real endgame 5-man instance progression in WotLK.

Am I the only one going to voice that it's kinda....silly? perhaps to have not only ZA in Ghostlands, but now the Sunwell in Eversong Woods?

We can rehash how it sucked for Horde to get to MC/BWL until we're blue in the face, but it was payback in AQ40 honestly. Basically, if you're Alliance, have fun traveling through 2 Horde zones to get to the Sunwell.

Anyone can see the problem, so I hope they recognize the issue and create a portal or transporter to Eversong/Ghostlands - at least for Alliance.

So if I am correct, and only in a slight post-lunch stupor,

2.2 = Content patch with voice chat.
2.3 = Zul'Aman, Class balancing
2.4+ = Sunwell

Which isn't helping my hopes for a Feb/March exapansion release.

What we seem to think is Season 3 will be no-upgrades or very minimal epics for addition where season 4 will be the new tier sets and all the fun stuff.

They said part of the experience is having some instances closer to one faction or the other, in reference to alliance access to Zul'Aman and there being no plans for it.

However having the both Sunwell instances also in horde lands honestly needs an easier route to it and if they dont provide one then its going to be a sign of remarkable stupidity

I'm more curious about what the timing of all of this is going to be.

Just guessing I'd assume:
2.2: This coming tuesday (end of august)
2.3: Late September/Early October
2.4: Before the new year? January?

Wotlk: March?

It looks like there is going to be a long break before 25 man raiding resumes progression mode - possibly the longest break yet.
