When WoW and Reality Meet
In the spirit of the "Stupid things people do" thread, I often find it funny when you start getting WoW and reality confused. For instance...
- Trying to put my car on auto follow on the Interstate
- Looking for a mini-map while driving
- Thinking about pinging a mini-map while finding someone in a crowd
- Trying to hit WoTF when falling asleep at the g/f's place
Anyone else ever have those moments when you have to think "Oh wait, I'm not playing WoW right now..." ?
(This thread is just intended for fun. If it's any sort of violation, feel free to delete it.)

Frequently, my spouse stays up until early morning, which is when i head to work. One morning, apparently, I slept through my alarm and he came in to wake me up.
He shook me and said, "Honey, you have to get up for work now. Get up babe."
I immediately replied with, "But my pots are all done and I'm repaired outside, I don't need to get up," and actually tried to turn back over.
He tried to shake me again and I groaned and said, "My pots are ready! waah!"
Man, I didn't live that down for awhile.

I lay in bed with my girlfriend at night and explain our next progression fight to her, so I can look for obvious flaws in my strategy explanation.
That, and I live, eat, sleep, and breathe the game - I'm at work right now, planning group composition for our Monday night raid. I wish I could get paid to do this, instead of getting paid to do the work I should be doing...

I was watching a football game with one of my guildies and my wife. A player had on some two tiered shoulder-pads. I said "Wow, those look just like those Druid shoulders off Majordomo!". And then paused and realized how much my friend and wife would make fun of me. To my surprise my friend turned and said "I was thinking the exact same thing!". My wife laughed at us both.

I think everyone does. I've definitely given (and heard) more than my share of one-sided conversations.
I also refer to monetary amounts as gold quite often. "Man, the flight was hella cheap, only cost me 200 gold." People tend to look at you funny. I've also had to remind myself that, no, I don't have a bubble that'll make me immune to everything in real life...

Hahaha, excellent responses so far!
A buddy of mine was telling me about a family reunion he was at when he had a group of 5-6 of his little cousins/nephews chasing him around. He quickly realized that he was running them in a circle with hopes to Frost Nova them once they had clumped well enough.

I press my PTT key on the phone all the damn time.
I've never tried looking for my UI irl, but I have had the experience of winding down the window and yelling "L2DRIVE" at somebody on the way to work.
Somebody in my apartment complex has a license plate which matches the name of somebody in my guild. I'm sure they're not the same person, but it is a little wierd to drive past that car every day.
My wife often asks me to explain Warrior mechanics late at night... when she needs to drop off to sleep. It works flawlessly. So, thank you to the Class Mechanics forum!

I was leading a raid and wanted to ask my wife (standing in the kitchen 3 rooms away) where we should go out to eat, so I typed
/w
and then tried for a few seconds to remember my wife's character name. Needless to say she's never played the game, and my attempt failed.

lol yeah, this has resulted in me saying some very interesting things over vent.
I think the funniest wow/life thing was when my husband woke up on his birthday and rolled over and said "Ding!"

I was watching football Sunday, while at the same time leading a raid. A few of my friends were inside watching it on a different TV. My buddy came in to my room to talk about the game for a minute, when I told him "Yea the Giants can't keep up with them tonight, they just don't have enough healers". Of course I was ripped on terribly, and all this because my guild never has the appropriate healers online for a raid

I once stated in a management meeting that we needed more quality DPS instead of zerg recruiting more people for the call center. It actually took me about 15 seconds to realize what I had said, and I only knew I had said something in WoW terms by the quizzical looks on executive faces. However, I was never asked what either DPS or zerg meant, probably because they were a bit shy to ask.
"DPS? Department Process Scheduling?"
However, many of my co-workers play WoW, and I find it much easier to explain technical issues or problems to them in WoW terms. I'll see if I can remember some examples later.

While not explicitly WoW-related:
I had to explain to my boss what I meant when I said "this soda owns."
It then spiralled out of control as he kept calling his bosses, questioning them if they knew what colloquialism meant... my job is wierd. D:

Hah! I had a similar experience with a group of friends. My g/f and I were mini-golfing with another couple, and at the end, the other guy said to his g/f "I PWNED YOU!"
We had to spend the entire night explaining to them how the O and P keys are close to one another, people get cocky and type like crap then humiliate themselves and spawn an online joke in the blink of an eye.
They didn't believe me until I cited Wikipedia.

My real point of realising how much I play/think about the game hit me when I was letting the dog run in a nearby field
I actually tried casting Eyes of the Beast on him, with the silly Nightelf stance as well, felt a right prat...
