What are people's experiences with the Librams from Dire Maul? I'm working on Shen'dralar rep and wondering if I have much chance to sell any of [Arcanum of Focus], [Arcanum of Protection] or [Arcanum of Rapidity] are used by twinks or others and what a reasonable price range is.
I'm wondering aswell. Sold a 10 haste for 10g to a twink, but they could have some potential if advertised properly.
I'm doing Shen'dralar rep (don't ask) so I've got an abundance of those arcanums. My experience is, don't bother if you're in it for the money. You can't even break even, let alone turn in a profit even marginally proportional to the effort gone through. The demand is small and people who twink hardcore would likely be dedicated enough to run their own arcanums, anyway. It's an extremely niche market, and other than spamming trade every day (and annoying the heck out of people who have no interest in them, namely 99% of the people on the server) there's no way for the supply and demand to know about each other.
It's a small profit, but a profit still.
I've stocked up about 200 stacks of snowballs at the end of december each year, and i've managed to sell them fairly reliably in small amounts for 50-90 silver per stack.
Vendor cost 1 silver per stack (iirc)
I'm down to my last 4 stacks from last year, but i'll probably use them to cream a few guild members

I've tried several kinds of farming, but the one working best for me as a leatherworker is to farm Cobra Scales. These drop of various snakes in SMV and Nagrand (best farming in Nagrand imho). The mobs are easy kills, and the scales have a drop rate of about 10%. On my server these babies sell for 20-25g a piece, which makes the gold/hour ratio really decent. I haven't checked, but 100g+ / hour is no problem at all.

100g per hour is honestly not that good. Farming trees in skettis/mining in offhours/farming primals seems to be far more profiting. In offhours I can get about 200g-250g per hour of farming trees in skettis. Mining in offhours also provides me with 200g per hour. Well it all depends on your server, but I believe its quite unlikely you can't find a better way to farm gold.
As far as a consolidated thread goes, I definitely think it would be possible. Of course stuff will vary between servers, but there are still a lot of awesome general tips (Skettis trees, when to sell, know your competition, how to use auctioneer, which gem patterns / enchants are the best, individual tips for almost every class and spec out there, to name a few) which could be consolidated into a single post. That being said ... I dunno if this thread is at the point where it's needed yet. It still is quite short, only just having hit its 20th page and not even at 500 posts. It shouldn't be too hard to turn up some good info using the search function. But if people wanna do it, I think it's a great idea. The sooner it starts the easier it'll be should it ever eventually need to be done!
In my opinion the "best" method for making Gold is dependant on the circumstances.
If You already have some Gold and there aren“t many compeditors on Your server cornering the market the most efficient way of making Gold is usually to resell goods from the AH. There are basically two ways to do so:
1. Buy and resell precious items. Simple and straightforward. Get a feeling for the market, buy items when they are cheap and sell them for a somewhat higher price. There will always be players who want fast cash who will sell there items under market value.
2. Buy components and combine them/use tradeskills to produce more valuable items from them. In many cases this method is more efficient than method 1.
Classic examples:
- collecting components for epics made from tradeskills, "buying the nether" from someone with the recipe and selling the result for more than the sum of nether+value of components
- Buy ores in large quantities, turn them into rare gems, turn the rare gems into highly sought after cut gems and then sell them (if You manage to collect a few hundred blue gems before the start of an arena - season, this may finance You for the rest of the year).
It may be different if You don“t have much Gold to invest or enough time so that farming at unusual hours or for some days /weeks straight are possible.
Just a quick one I found out last night - on my server Thorium ore goes for 25-30g a stack... If you have a bit of time, head to Silithus and into the Hives. The bugs are not elite anymore (they have only 3k hps) and there are litterally dozens of rich thorium veins in there. Plus you get arcane crystals/gems which still all sell well (large opals for 15g each for example )
It's doable a lvl 60 especially if you take the time to gear up a bit in outland first.
Also, if you are a miner and grinding Netherwing (or already done) take the time to mine Nethercite. Not only does a stack of 20 sells for 3 g at the vendor (you could AH it, but sales are rare and far between - on my server at least) but they seem to drop higher than normal numbers of motes of fire (plus motes of earth and various lower gems) - I can usually gather 2 primals in less than an hour while I do my dailies to get my drake. And if you mine on the surface it virually risk free as you only have to avoid the elites. Plus there's usually a few adamantite (some rich) veins dotted around the place.

Reason: forgot some information
Anyone who wants thorium will want to go to Darkwhisper Gorge. Pre-BC that was where I would farm it: you have virtually 15 different nodes with about 5-7 up at a given time. Considering there's pretty much nothing else interesting there, you should have virtually NO competition. If I remember correctly, the giants just below are also the only ones to loot an alchemy recipe (frost or major frost resist I believe, bit of a long time ago).
Oh and if for any reason at all, you want an eye of shadow, the succubae of darkwhisper gorge loot them (that was a major source of money pre-bc).
As a holy paladin (2000+ heal), I solo Strat and Ramparts, very easily. I find it easier to solo in raid gear than my arena gear, due to the fact of more "spell damage".Holy Wrath and Exorsim mixed with the "upgraded AD trinket and Paladin Class trinket, make the Undead part really easy. I am a Disenchanter so I DE all the items, and sell them as well as the Righteous orbs (I normally get between 3-7 per live strat run) on my servers AH for about 30-40g per orb, and standard prices for the chanting mats. Make sure to bring pleanty of food, and empty your bags before each run. I also got my rep with AD up for my Naxx key (for the heck of it) since I am a BE this is nice.
Things I sell from these runs:
Runecloth (Now that I have done all my city turn-ins)
Netherweave Cloth
Enchanting Mats
Righteous Orbs
Bone Fragments
Crypt Fiend Parts
I would say with a strat run (both UD Strat and Live strat) I easily make 250-300g
a Ramparts run will yield lower return on my invested time, but is good for prismatics when the market is really high.
Why is everybody automatically given 300/300 skill common language? Chat channels prove, not everybody deserves it...

Well, I guess 100g was an understatement, I said "100g+ wasn't a problem".
The drop rate is about half the droprate of motes from elementals, although the skins sell for the same price as a primal. In comparison, if you are able to grind 3 primals per hour (=30 motes), you could get approximately 15 skins in the samt time. If we're counting at a low price for 20 (sold many for 25+), we're talking minimum 300g for the skins while the primals you would get in the same time would sell for somewhere 60-90g. Hence i look at those as at least 3 times more profitable compared to grinding motes. Just thought I'd clarify It might not be the best items for grinding, but it sure is a viable option.

Fishing the pools of pure water in Nagrand is pretty ridiculous if you have maxed fishing. Between BG or arena queues I can fly up there and fish 5-6 primals.
"Oh he's a sad little man? He's thrown a kettle over a pub, what have you done?"
Fishing is a good and relaxed way to make some gold if you have an epic flying mount, especially now that we have a tracking skill for fish schools.
What I usually do is fly around the 3 big lakes in Zangarmarsch first and fish "Steam Pump Flotsam". You get lots of feliron ore, steam pump debris, golden vendorfish and some other nice stuff. All of it sells really well. If you're lucky you will also find some "Huge Spotted Feltail", which can be used to cook a +30 stam fish worth 50g/stack. These are pretty damn rare however and it will take some time to get a stack of them.
I only fly one lap around Zangar and then move on to Nagrand. Here I do a lap around the two big lakes and the rivers inbetween to fish schools of "Icefin Bluefish", "Figluster's Mudfish" and "Pure Water". Cooking the fish to get a stack of foodbuffs for my lock, the rest I sell on AH for anywhere between 18 to 25g per stack depending on competition(put these up in stacks of 5, they sell quicker that way). On a lucky day or at night I can fish anywhere from 2 to 3, sometimes up to 6 Primal Water also, which I can sell for around 20g a piece depending on AH situation.
Some time ago I would usually move on to Terrokar and try fishing some "Furious Crawdad". These also sell very well on the AH, about 50g/stack on my server. However, since those schools respawn very slowly and there are usually one or two people around fishing for them aswell, these are not a really good option if you do it for the cash.
This fishing run usually takes about 30 to 40 minutes and nets anywhere from 120 to 220g, depending on AH prices and on how lucky I get with schools. Since quite few people are patient enough to max out their fishing skill competition is very rare. Good thing about it (at least for me) is also that it is very relaxed and easy to handle while you're drinking your morning coffee As mentioned there is usually no competition at all, the profit is nice and there's no real "work" involved as in chainkilling mobs or whatever.

I have to say that I got an interest in fishing recently and was very pleased with the results. I started by leveling to ~300 by fishing deviates in the barrens. I then reached ~330 by fishing on and off in Zangar. Then one night when I was on backup with not much to do, I decided to "powerlevel" my fishing - just sit near the fishing vendor near the CE outpost in Zangar and just fish fish fish - no lost time to look for spots. I reach 375 easily in under 4 hours, all the while browsing atlas loot (very easy to do while fishing). I bound fishing to F1, put autloot on, ambiance and music sound to minimum, normal sound to max. F1, position mouse, start doing something else, whenever you hear the sound just right-click, F1, etc. Putting ambiance sound to 0 was the key thing to do. I've made really good friends of several hunters by distributing my 300+ cooked trouts, got quite some sta or mp5 food + trash and ~15 scrolls. After that, pure water nodes are gold, and they are in the vicinity of agi food spots, so Nagrand is definitely the new place to be for me.
Fishing Furious Crawdad is pointless, as you can buy it easily on the vendor in Zul Aman. The trick is, use your sticks AFTER you cleared the instance if you did free Gunter before you killed ZulJin, he and the other NPCs will come to the end-event and despawn afterwards. The limited supply of crawdad and basilisk will reset every ~30 minutes till the instance timer is reset. Just park a char in the instance and log in to "farm buy" both.

I've been doing that quite a bit recently as well. It's great to have food for my Mage, as well as being able to "give back" to the guild bank for tank food as well.
Also, I wanted to ask a question regarding AH data collection. As I browse economy mods, I am looking for something that shows the weekly progression of prices that the item has undergone. I am trying to get a feel for the 'up' and 'down' days the market has. By doing so, I can effectively predict, much like many of you have done, the prices of an item on a slow day for the market, and fast days for the market. I have tried gathering data by hand and plotting points in Excel but I can't gather nearly as much data as a program could. Anyone have any ideas/solutions/comments to these concerns of mine?
Check out Wowecon, wowecon.com - World of Warcraft Auction House Price Database, it might be what you are looking for. It's sort of like Auctioneer, with a built in database instead of building one yourself. The program requires you to run wowecon first, which will then automatically launch WoW after connecting to the wowecon server to update price info. I assure you the mod is safe, they have been around awhile and no one has had their account info hacked or anything. At one point, some anti virus programs thought they were a trojan, but they fixed that quickly, and it was actually the anti virus program messing up. It has a few neat things like a built in database of vendor prices (practically any grey/white/etc item I ever looted already had the info for what it would vendor/AH for, even if I never saw the item before, unlike auctioneer which needs to build up it's own info). Also, if you buy a subscription, you get email alerts with price information, detailed data reports on your server etc.. I never went that far. I just have a mental block regarding money to make more money in game. I might as well just buy gold at that point.
The only downside is, it's a memory hog. You need a decent computer to not see framerate lag, or disable the mod when you are done playing the AH for the day (which is what I used to do). I got tired of doing that though, and didn't get it when I re-did my UI recently. Also, because I was impressed with some of the new Auctioneer Advanced features. I think the best thing for someone real serious about playing the AH would be both programs, if your computer can handle it.
First of all sorry but it's a big no-no, I'm not giving my account information to anybody and suggesting this is just ludicrous, no matter what kind of "respectabiity" this third party has achieved. Let's just not be stupid. If they were serious they would just create a level 1 scan char on each faction of each server and get the AH info themselves, no need to ask people for their own account information for that.
Second, the information they provide is nothing you couldn't get yourself. Auctioneer already comes with a full database of item information, including vendor prices, which professions use the item for crafts, etc - that's the Informant add-on. AH data is only relevant from your server, which is what scans are for. The economies of each server are widely different (e.g. between a well known raiding server with 10+ guilds in t6 content and 25+ in t5, vs my server with 2 guilds in t6 and maybe 5 in t5). A scan per day for 10 days is all you need to build a decent database of AH prics for common goods, and the new auctioneer automatically adds to your private database every item that you display in the AH, meaning that the goods you typically look at/trade will have a very high quality of prices. Finally, if you need to get a quick ballpark estimate on any given item, every well-known wow site has cross-server AH info.

You don't give them your account info, and I have no idea why you think you do.

You don't directly, but this is essentially giving them your account info:

I share Anathor's paranoia here. I'll run an in-game mod, or I'll write a tool out-of-game to do my analysis. But to grab a 3rd party application that I didn't compile myself would be more trust than I have.
Unless they release the source so I can look at it I have to assume a program that requires the game to be run after it is executing is keylogging or such. Plenty of mods simply dump data then allow an app to upload that when launched later, it's the preferable method.

I don't know what you're thinking, but that is pretty much a step-by-step explanation of how a keylogger gets your info. Except this seems entirely voluntary. Whether or not it actually logs your info, who cares? It's shady, and stupid.
Though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours, and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable; I simply am not there.

That's all the program does. It exits before launching WoW, and the step of launching WoW is optional. It's no different from if WAU had an option to start WoW for you after it finished updating your addons other than the fact that it's closed-source. If you're going to distrust a program merely for being closed source, you shouldn't be playing WoW in the first place.
