Say it aint so.. thats a pretty audacious move on Blizzards part. Besides doing mass sell offs, anyone have some ideas on how to squeeze a profit out of this?

There might be a market for "selling badges"--that is, using your soulbound badges to buy nethers/vortexes to trade to someone for gold. If you are farming kara/heroics for badges and have an absurd amount, the gold-rich/time-poor people would go for buying a nether over running heroics and those without access to 25-man access would be your customer base for the vortexes.

With sw25 at least dropping badges, I would expect the price of Vortex to crash. But I would expect a hefty demand for the other components, For example both [Pattern: Belt of Blasting] and [Red Belt of Battle] use [Recipe: Transmute Primal Air to Fire]

Regarding the vortex change: at least some craftings professions will profit from it. Blacksmithing has been annihilated as a moneymaker due to S1 arena gear beeing availible from the honor vendor (the exceptions are a few tanking items). Selling the Red Belt as well as the Protection Pala belt might earn me some additional cash. I could even buy some vortices and sell them as crafted items...

If nethers are BoE its likely going to drop the profit on the epic leg enchants a fair bit. Possibly the non-epic ones too depending on who all are actually buying those (I rarely have trouble selling 4 or so cobrahide kits each week).

The other thing it hurts is that everyone in instances will be rolling on them now since they have inherent value to non-crafters again. Seems like a silly change to me since these were one of the few ways crafters could make money compared to gatherers.

New JC Designs

Anyone with PTR have info on the new JC designs?

Rep Reward?

Which vendor?

Details on gem attributes?

Which ones do you all think will have a descent market once the patch hits?

For the common designs that drop from bosses in BEM, how many kills did it take to get some of these, and how many did you have to have in your party?

I am anticipating an uptick in PvP related gems with v2.4 due to the superior PvP lvl 70 items being vendor available. Also, shouldn't an increase in the availability of nethers cause a temporary uptick in the gems needed for those crafted lvl70 sets?

Even though many of us here are in higher end content... we are probably the minority here. I expect the vast majority of the WoW population is doing PvP / alt grinding / Kara. (probably in this order) Nether availability will definitely help those alts grow to need more gems / enchants too.

I find playin the AH now n again and farming primals and selling them for silly prices works best

Is solo farming low level bosses for small prismatic shards a viable means of making gold? Particularly as a rogue.

Wouldn't cooldowns limit your killing speed quite a bit? Maximum shards would be 5 from Underbog x 5 instance resets per hour = 25 shards.., but I'm not really sure if you could easily solo half of those bosses without cooldowns - and do it with average speed of 1 boss per 3 minutes.

Even 1 boss every 5 minutes would be profitable. It'd probably take me 3-5mins to stealth to each boss anyway. If they're soloable with 5 min cooldowns then I suspect it'd be profitable. Once I level enchanting I'll give it a try.

I think rogue/druid farming LPSs out of normal setthek would be more profitable. Even if it took the same time per kill as solo-farming SPSs (more likely faster) your share of the split hawl is 1.5 SPSs per boss instead of 1.

Which BoE recipes use vortexes? I thought only the belt patterns (& the blacksmithing weapons) used them.

In any case this is a good change for individuals with T5 belt patterns. Not such a good change for guilds that are currently selling T5 belts.

Previously any crafter with such patterns really had no way to profit from the pattern - they would get it, be given the vortexes (guild property) & craft items for the guild to give to members or to sell for guild profit. Now everyone and their uncle will be asking in trade for people who can craft T5 belts can sell their expertise for a price.

Well soloing bosses may work as a rogue, stealth chest farming has to be the way to go. I got my epic in 1 week from playing the ah and chest farming. I had 500 gold to start with. I bought herbs and whatnot for flasks of relentless assault which seems to run in short supply on my server. I also farmed crypts and when I reached the instance cap I went and flew around and mined. With all the ore i got I crushed it for gems and used the powder with the eternium and primal earths for braided eternium chains. It was a nice system but i found that once i got my epic i started slacking.

Is farming crypts more profitable than farming mana tombs?

I'm not really sure. I liked crypts better cause it was faster which allowed me to spend more time mining. I assume mana tombs would be better do to the fact that there are 2 chests vs the 1 in crypts.

There are 2 mining nodes in mana tombs. I manage to wrack up quite a bit of gold hiting those as well.

While there are quite a lot of "effortless" ways of making gold via buying and then prospecting/crafting/reselling I find the best way to go for myself is straight up old school farming. I've made as much as 2500g on a single night making very little use of professions. Knowing the market is key in this case as well as attention to drop rates and the farming patterns of others.

I typically "diversify my portfolio" as to not flood the market and have a long wandering farming route that starts at Allerian and meanders across the globe depending on the farming habits of others and what I feel like going for. Being a warlock I have the ability to tag multiple mobs, self heal, and kill on the run with very little downtime. Food and Water are very expensive so usually I kick off the farming spree with a visit to the daily BG to pick up my mage food and maybe 12g. Blackened Basilisk sell for around 25g a stack and you can effortlessly dot train the entire zone multiple times in a very short period. Netherweb Spider Silk is always a big seller in the 6g range and you can farm those out quickly as well and sell 30 a night easily. Signet/Tomes/Primals are next on the list with a quick trip to SMV.

Very important to old school farming is understanding what mobs are "quest mobs" and how a quest mob impacts your farming. Typically they have much higher respawn rate but the downside that they will not drop "world drop" items or recipes. The SMV enraged air elementals are a perfect example of this. Never will they drop a single blue item or JC/Enchanting pattern but will drop the standard assortment of motes, greys and greens. The way these mobs are programmed there has to be a set number of them in existence on the map at any given time, if one is killed that lowers their population below the programmed minimum one will instantly respawn at one of their points. While this has very little impact on a solo farmer, with enough people in this area you can force "instaspawn" nirvana where you wont even need to take a step to tag a mob. As long as the other farmers are hitting the mobs as hard as you you will never have to mount to make it to your next kill. This can be achieved by an organized group, but I prefer it to be 4 farmers of the opposite faction, and myself tucked away in my magic corner chain pulling 30 mobs back to back.

You also can't ignore the value of grey items... Make sure your bags are empty enough to carry every last scrap you can. A typical grey item will vendor for 1g and stackable greys for 2.5g. Effortlessly murdering multiple mobs on the move as a warlock means you will probably spend at least 30% of your farming time simply going back to loot. Really cuts into your through put but can be alleviated by what I call a "loot bunny". Basically you have a 60+ guildy sick of questing follow you for the steady steam of incoming XP and do all your looting for you. They get the XP... I get everything else at the end. If their packs get full they can unload to your packs on the move and keep going.

Greens that vendor for under 7g are DEed by my priest to be made into LPS along with the cloth drops. If the LPS market is low sometimes 16 slot bags are a better way to go. The priest is parked at Halaa to snag up as many Avenging Blades as possible.

Oddly enough runs through ZF can make you some cash while you help your friend with quests and whatnot. There is an abunance of greens for DEing and large amounts of mageweave cloth, both are fetching good money on my server and using mageweave to tailor to DE can squeeze even more out of it.

While I could probably make just as good cash using my capital playing the AH there is something to be said about mass murdering your way around the globe.

They gave the first boss a Stealth detect. Can't bypas him anymore unless yer willing to take a repair bill and blow a combat res. Bit of a pity because stealth running the last boss was fairly entertaining.

This is the problem I seem to have. I spent about 2-3 weeks farming relentlessly to buy my Herb/Miner Hunter alt an epic mount to rake in some serious cash, but I found once I had the mount and had farmed for a few days with it, I just lost interest and started slacking.

I'm really trying to get motivated and go farm some more stuff to finish my Sunwell prep, but I just don't have any interest in it at the moment.

Two rogues can easily duo the first boss if they're decently geared.

I just dropped skinning for jewelcrafting and was wondering if this in conjunction with mana tombs farming would yield an appreciable amount of money. I'm trying to work up the money for my epic flyer and enchantments for Arena and raiding. Also, is there a gear standard I should adhere to when beginning to farm tombs?

Also, what kind of gems should I craft and what kind of gems should I stay away from? I know Solid Star of Elune makes quite a bit with tanks/pvpers and raw AP makes a lot for rogues but I'm near clueless on what to sell towards other classes (such as whether to make mp5/intel/spirit gems).

I also heard of getting the mats to craft a Braided Eternium Chain and disenchanting it for Large Prismatic Shards. Does this depend on market prices for mats and shards or is it usually just a straight gain?

Any replies are much appreciated.

With your gear I would stick to grinding out primals and mining because of the repair bill you may get from chest farming.
I'm sure all your questions can be answered in this thread by searching. However, theres a lot to go through. If you mine and prospect your ore you will easily be able to make the chains. As for the gems I sold em to a guy uncut so I didn't have to worry about it.

As I've yet to see it posted, here's a link from the Ars Technica forums that may interest those of you who'd like to become their realm's big cheese.
Understanding How To Control MMORPG Markets (in-depth introduction)
It's page-upon-page of theory and practice from one of those people who built themselves an economic empire inside WoW, or indeed any other game with a player-interactive economy.

Beware: GMs/Blizzard/The Invisible Pink Unicorn gets upset when you destabilise a realm's economy. Be sensible with what you take from that link and apply in-game. Annihiliating markets may make you unpopular with players/guilds you may wish to trade/raid with in the future, you're trying to make money by being the ultimate middle-man, not the Mafia...

edit: I r spel teh gud.
edit2:Warning added.
