This worked well with magic [the ccg] cards too. It's a pretty widely established fact that you can mark up food and alcohol a ridiculous amount if you're well-located and don't have competition. The interesting part is that it is several times more pronounced if you're trading food for something they don't view as real currency, like wow gold, cards, and presumably anything else that isn't easy to convert directly to cash or other goods/services. I have seen people get 20 bucks worth of stuff for a couple slices of pizza and a coke at tournaments on a few occasions.

OR order pizza from online website for delivery. He pays with his debit/card for the pizza, other guy gives him gold ingame. Depending on what he makes per hour in "real life" he can get a good return for a $10 pizza in gold.

They do?? I have about 200 of those in my bank saved up. I have always seen you selling those pizza's since back before bc. Is that working very well for you? and how do you go about getting them the pizza?

Great guide. Nice addon (cartographer route) too. Will be checking that out for sure. Should cut down on my farming time.

Slight De-rail:
In October 2006, my guild started pushing AQ40/Naxx (I think?) My guild forums always has a sticky of things the guild needed, for Repair Bots, Weapon/Armor/Resist Mats and Flask Mats.
I always would remember playing on Sargeras and how un-helpful people were, I quit the game and finally decided to come back. Then you have one of those ideas where you want to think about and make other peoples lives (and in-game experiences) good.
So being a crazy college kid I came up with a few contests for the server to participate in.
1st there was Hungry While Herbing, people rode around and herbed all day, only to see a stack of herbs for 20g. Gold in a video game isn't that exciting, so I thought A) I'll help my guild bank help our raiders and push content, B) I'll make people feel rewarded for herbing. So I typed up a forum post...for 80 Dreamfoil, 60 Gromsblood or 80 Mt. Silversage (iirc) I'd send people a Medium 1 Topping Pizza. We used to joke that I had all the "good" guild on my server on "Farm status" because they all bought from me. (TKT, Eng Guys, Imperial Order, Phoenix...yada yada).
Then that got dull, so I started Hungry Fat Farmers Large Prismatics, Primals, Mooncloth, Spellcloth could all be turned in for a Large 2-Topping Pizza (from any place that delivered neard you) You had to be a US Citizen, and I wouldn't give out your info. (I'd take down peoples names, addresses, phone numbers, ect.) I did get a few people as customers that were hated on our server, I was offered 1000g for someone's phone number (I didn't crack).
Today Detheroc has 3 Contests (mainly that favor the Alliance):
Hungry Fat Farmers
Primal Mooncloth Raid Roll Offs (25 people, everyone brings 50g or 1 Primal MC, I make bags, Roll each round, lowest roll is eliminated, last 2-3 people left win bags)...cheaper then spending 350g on a bag, and a heck of alot more fun. (Flirts with the whole shut down of gambling like 2 years ago?)
and
5g Fridays (Send me a tell/mail on Friday, make me laugh and you get 5g)
Now I'm sure some of you are saying, wow that's gay. Keep in mind, I rarely keep the money. It either goes to my bank, I buy items and give them away doing trivia in trade chat or I just give gold away for lowbies on the IF bridge. I don't "farm", I work Part-Time (with Special needs kids), go to College and buy pizza for people. I just like to make people laugh on my server. Oh yea, a Large 2-Topping Pizza sells on Detheroc for 300g.
P.S. If you're in my Battlegroup (Shadowburn) I'm hosting Contender in December ( WoW Forums -> [Shadowburn] Contender in December) The winning team gets pizza

One thing I've noticed on my server at least, is that herb prices go way down on the weekends. I usually do all my herbing and mining on the weekends, so it's proven quite profitable for me to wait until raid times on Tuesday and Wednesday to sell everything. For some things, this doesn't make that much of a difference (adamantite ore) for other things, the difference is huge (felweed/dreaming glory).

That sounds pretty awesome, but I'll give you a fair head's up that all those things, as far as I can see and determine, are against the Terms of Use. Especially the Casino/Mooncloth rolling thing. All it'd take is one asshole reporting you and you could have some serious trouble.
Maybe we should keep the thread to making gold without a chance of getting your account nixxed

Yea sorry, it's not really legal in-game. But I'm yet to find someone who complains about eating pizza.
I was one of the last "mains" in my guild to get my Epic Flier. I will say that if a guildy offers to give you a loan (read: you didn't beg people for money) Take it and get your mount, the sooner you can do Netherwing/Daily quests faster the faster you can pay them back.
Wowhead.com also has a good listing of all the zones with the quest givers on the map. I leveled to 70 as holy and basically just ran instances (was good practice). When I hit 70 I started going back and doing quests for money, it's pretty sweet, aside from being repetitive/boring.

This is bringing back memories of the night elf druid IRL female who posted a personal ad offering a date, including sex, for epic mount money. She claimed to have made a successful deal and come out the better for it with potential for a long-term relationship. There's obviously a huge line between pizza and sex, but they're both out-of-game services, and the second one flirts with real laws in additional to in-game ToS.

For those of you who managed to take advantage of it while it was still live... the fire elementals in Skald (in BEM) were respawning instantly today for hours. I managed to get there, kill about a dozen, and then Blizzard hotfixed it so they had the normal spawntime. Blast.

Made 30 Primal Fire in 2Hours yesterday, before they fixed it. Good Times.
I don't really make gold anymore. I used to buy adamantite ore, prospect and cut the gems. That brought me 2 epic flyers and a healthy cushion of 20k gold on all my characters together.
Nowadays I do some dailys when I am up to it. Play the AH a little ("Hello lvl65+ blue item for <15g"). Sometimes the old habbit comes through and I buy lots of adamantite stacks.

I went to the skald, like on friday cause I read about it in the 2.3 thread, but spawn was usual slow, at least I didn't see much instant respawning. I wonder if they hotfixed it earlier on my server? Anyway there were a few people, and not many fire elems, and still tons of trash imp/lizards annoying me, I didn't really like it.

I've mostly profited from having both Mining and Skinning; [Knothide Leather] could be sold well in the leveling days because there are many Leatherworkers without the gathering profession. Mining was a great income as well (same with both Jewelcrafting and Blacksmithing I suppose), but for a while now prices for either have been stable and somewhat low. I'm expecting that ores will sell better when people need new gems for their Season 3 items, and that leather will be a great income again when levelling to 80. After that I might replace Skinning or perhaps both with professions more beneficial for my character.
I've been sitting on enough gold to be comfortable for a while now, but typically check the AH for the prices of a few items I have stocked up well and spend a few minutes listing them; sometimes I just buy a few things that are cheap and bunker them until I see prices go up. Occasionally there will be days where almost nobody seems to bother listing some items, and even [Primal Water] or [Primal Might] will sell for a good 50% more than usual - it has happened on more than one occasion and checking later (an hour, or after raiding) it's usually back to normal.
|
"You are better than I am," Inigo admitted.
"So it seems. But if that is true, then why are you smiling?"
"Because," Inigo answered, "I know something you don't know."
"And what is that?" asked the man in black.
"I'm not left-handed."

Creating [Fel Iron Blood Ring]s and [Golden Draenite Ring]s, then disenchanting them can be extremely profitable. Most people dump [Golden Draenite]s and [Blood Garnet]s for as low as 50s a piece in the illusion that they are worthless. Buy a stack of [Fel Iron Bar]s with them, usually for 10-15g depending on your server.
Et voila: 2-3 [Arcane Dust] (or lesser planar essences/shards) for 1.5-2g a piece.
Especially when people dump these gems in large amounts, profits can get hilarious.

Patch 2.3 for engineers seems very profitable
I discovered that now there are "windy clouds" over Nagrand and they show up on the minimap. I flew around the map yesterday a couple of times and farmed 20 primal airs easily. I picked up a few stacks of herbs in the meanwhile. Mana and shadow can be extracted from clouds aswell, in Netherstorm and SMV. Epic flyer is a good bonus here, speeds up the gathering quite a lot.

Water can be got in the same way in Zangarmarsh. Bit disappointed they changed these clouds from Life though but I guess herbalist is the way to go if you want those. Now they just need to add clouds of fire to Hellfire and I'll be happy!

I used to borrow my friend's feral druid. I'd put on tank gear and spam Swipe on each pull. Between cloth, dusts and GEE's from greens, shards from blues (he's an enchanter) as well as Righteous Orbs that sold for ~50g on average I would probably make more than a hundred gold an hour. It was also kind of fun. The only mobs I had a problem with were the packs that had 2-4 healers in them. That was a pain to say the least.

This is the same idea, but now I don't have to rely on people listing their greens under 4-5g. Now, I just gotta find a JC willing to make a ton of these things for me. I've probably got 20 of those gems in the bank already, and they all sell or like 30-70s on the AH 24/7.

Yeah mote extracting is AWESOME in 2.3. The goggles which previously let you see the mana clouds floating around Netherstorm (which I wear 24/7 anyway, hello T5 equivalent for ~400g) now show them on your minimap. Crusader aura, epic flying, mining and engineering makes for some very high farming potential. I've been getting between 8 and 12 primal shadow an hour in SMV, along with 3-6 stacks each of adamantite and fel iron, including the usual plentitude of green gems, motes of earth, and the occasional mote of fire from FI.
Zangarmarsh changing from life->water doesn't bother me too much, since I used to regularly farm Zangar gas clouds for life for healing enchants, I've now got close to 50 primal life in my bank. I'm eager to try Nagrand too, but I know SMV / Zangar / Netherstorm gas clouds too well at the moment, it's too easy to zoom around zapping them. I imagine I'll find the time to work out a path soon though. I did notice several were located way up in the air, on the floating islands too. Confused the hell out of me when I saw them on the mini map!

I remember you, you bought pizzas for anyone who farmed you consumables from the forum posts you made. One of the things about Detheroc that I remember. From what I recall it was rather successful.
As a leatherworker I make most of my money from gathering/selling leatherworking materials. I'm surprised how easily I can sell stacks of different kinds of leather. I suppose the server population (or lack thereof) contributes to the ease since apparently no one likes to farm for LW materials.

Taking some suggestions from this thread has got me to my epic flier. I was most of the way there, but these tips put me over the top. Here's what I do these days.
1) Log in and check AH mule. List auctions, collect cash, bid on low priced items.
2) Log on main and farm for 1-2 hours. This could be anything, adamantite in nagrand, Legion hold, motes of whatever I need. I tend to just farm legion hold for the cash and drops, since I can buy whatever I need with the money I make. I'm not working right now, so this usually takes place first thing in the morning over my coffee and toast. Disquette's looking at this as gold per minute was a real eye opener, I do tend to just farm the highest return item.
3) Check the daily heroic and regular runs. If I can get a group in guild, and there's a reasonable chance of success, I do them. I have to wait for people to get home from work before this is possible though, so I spend the afternoon looking for a job IRL.
4) Run whatever. This could be the daily heroic quest, raiding, it doesn't really matter.
5) Last thing before bed, I check my AH mule again, collect profits for the day, and ship them to my main. I keep enough gold on this toon to put auctions up, nothing else.
