Now the question is when to unload the stockpiles...
I have void crystals and blue gems saved up and am wondering when to drop them on the market. I missed out on the 2.3 bonanza so I'd appreciate any advice folks have on optimum times to sell and how much of a markup to put things up at.

I simply sell items whenever the profit margin is attractive. I sold several primals prior to the patch when prices temporarily spiked (for whatever reason). It's just like the stock market. You can't time the top. So you simply have to look at the prices in the AH and decide if there's enough profit that you want to sell or if you want to sit on your stocks.
My stockpiles are relatively small so I wait until there's a very large profit margin to sell. However, if you have 20 stacks of each primal, you will want to sell at smaller profit margins because you have more volume to move.

Primal mights have never really seen an attractive price margin, due to the fact that everyone who is an alchemist can make it. No rep required, period. I highly doubt people getting SWP pattern drops can't find a couple sitting around in their guild bank, or have a couple transmutes donated to them.

hello all
I am a short time reader of these forums as i found out about them 2 weeks ago, i recently started farming gold on my 70 human rogue about t4 gear with 375 eng skill and have yet to pick up a second trade skill, most of my farming thus far has been the mana tombs chest spawns and primal water, i was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of how to start farming more effectively, my gold total is about 2k and i have yet to get an epic flyer, so any insight would be great. also what should i pick up with his free trade skill, my old main is a 70 pally which i have quit playing because he was boring has 375 blacksmithing and mining, and i basically used him to fund my rogues lvling and skill capping but now im just looking for one i should pick up to help out my farming runs. ty again guys

The real bonanza for 2.3 was the 24 hours after season 3 released. People wanted gems and enchanting supplies RIGHT NOW and they were willing to pay for it. I suspect you'll similar things happen when Sun Reach Armory opens and when S4 arrives.

Perhaps you should be come a "long time reader" and read the 90+ pages before this one... there are plenty of methods in there of making gold. As for your free trade skill you'll have to spend a lot of gold to get any gold out of a crafting profession, so you'll be better off with a gathering skill.
I'm pretty disappointed I didn't catch the cooldown on the [Brilliant Glass]. I've got 6 stacks of each type of green gem... I guess I'll be busy for a while. Still, pretty good thinking on Blizzard's behalf, it will certainly stop the market dropping out on rare gems. Not without precedent either, they did the same on Nexus -> Small Prismatic Shards, and later removed the cooldown. I'm tipping thats what we'll see from this, in a few months time.

There actually wasn't a cooldown on the PTR, I asked earlier in the thread with the intention of loading up on green gems, but the combo of no one willing to sell green gems in bulk at the prices I wanted, and my hesitancy because of the blue gem market led me to not stock up on them. It's kind of put in the Void Shatter usefulness category now, except with the randomness of not knowing what gem you will get.

I ran in to the same idiotic problem with Brilliant Glass and proceeded to kick myself. However in about half an hour before work this morning I ran through about 90% of my blue gem stock by just keeping the AH stocked and watching them sell about as quickly as I could cut them. A lot of people are picking up the new reputation-based PvP gear immediately, so the gear rush has already started on my server.
Void Crystals also sold out immediately and have jumped from 18g to 25g to 50g. Hopefully the new prices'll be sustainable for a short while at least, long enough for me to offload my stocks bought at 15g or so. I haven't seen the same rush on LPSs as previous patches yet though, but that might be due to the badge gear not being opened as previous posters mentioned.

Well Primal Nether has fluctuated in early trading, was over 100, as high as 140. Now averaging 60 to 80 with better trades in open chat.
I am curious where it will bottom out... I figure early traders are going to undercut with the glut and it should average near primal might. Primal fire jumped to 30 but I don't think it will stick.
On a side note, a lot of patterns showed up suddenly. I figure people realize that with nether available more people will be in that market, fortunately I have a few in stock of ones I thought appropriate. Anyone else stock patterns or am out on a limb here?

Large Pris have gone down in Price, don't know whether its the first day effect or a more permanent effect. They were at 20g last I checked.
VCs Prices have gone up bt not by that much, from 25g to 33g+.
Green Gem Prices have gone up on my server.

Vortexes are 300g on Hellscream, nethers averaging 60-70. Rare gem prices are unchanged, enchanting mats are pretty much stable, primals of all types are +30-100% higher than normal. Crafted items from nethers amusingly enough have remained stable. Sold 3x nethercobras for 350g today. Rep item prices tanked really hard, everything else remaining pretty much the same. Wait for the badge/gem vendor and s4 for the real wild ride to start.

I don't know what makes my server so different from the rest, but I just put up 8 LPS for 35g and they sold in 3 minutes. I'm pretty pissed that I got cold feet and liquidated my stock of about 80 over the last few weeks at 23-24g per. :/

Might be too late now, but there was definitely a rush on vortexes. This afternoon I sold one on the AH for 400g in less than an hour. I then bought 6 primal nether at the price of 62 each.

Hellscream is capped population with a decently large gap in alliance/horde population (1000+ more level 70 alliance than horde), so it's possible that the difference in population/farmer levels/preparation accounts for the difference in price swings.

I too can report some wild movements in the newborn vortex market. A friend of mine picked up a stack of 9 from a nervous guild for 100 each and later sold them for 225 on the AH. I wouldn't be confident predicting either a rise or drop from the 200-250 range, considering all the variables. One would imagine the price would go up once new badge vendors open, since fewer badges will be converted to gold... but on the other hand, the availability is only going to increase over time. It's definitely worth looking into, however, since its a new market and a lot of people don't seem to know exactly how much they are worth.
Void crystals are selling at 32g per, and fwe enough are up that I'm starting to think I'm the only one who hoarded them. Talk of 50g+ voids delights me, since I can remember a time only a few months ago when they could be had for 6-10g. LPS are still 20g and above, which i think will dip slightly once enough enchanters start hitting honored.

Sorry to rant, but I need to complain about having this conversation at least 20 times today:
me: want to buy primal nethers, 65g each
xxx: "they are going for 150 each on the auction house"
me: ...and they will be 40g in a week, so?
xxx: "no they won't, you're retarded"
I hate dealing with people. Guess I'll just wait until the auction house normalizes. No stormherald for my alt today.

Green gem to blue gem transmute is epic levels of uselessness at the moment. On my server (and I suspect on most), the JC market is driven by a very few players who each prospect up and cut several dozen blue quality gems per day. Adding one more blue gem per day will do pretty much nothing to alter the supply. I suspect many JC won't even bother to use their transmute cooldown.
As for reducing the oversupply of green gems - to make a hollow laughing. I've been saving my green shrapnel since the news of the transmute first came out a couple of weeks ago. I bought a couple of stacks to equalise numbers, but nothing significant. In that couple of weeks alone I've accumulated 24 full stacks of each colour of green quality gem - which I now find would take me 160 days to transmute.
I'll hang on to them on an alt for a while in case they remove the cooldown, but otherwise they're off to the vendor just as previously.

I'd gladly take them off your hands, but seeing you're not on aszune i recommend the following:
Use the blue and red ones to make rings for disenchanting, and the green, yellow and purple ones to make Earthstorm diamonds.
The rest, i tend to trade for more of the above.
All 'n all this results in a good profit. Probably not as much as people hoped the patch would give though.

Yeah i used to do that.
The blood ring and azuremoonstone ring to dis and rest for earthstorm.
But seeing I already have saved up 45 earthstorm diamonds I doubt it will help me much getting another 100-200 to add to that stock in anticepation for season 4
Maybe ill just go slowly sell those green gems in 3's for all the JC's who are to scared to prospect themselves. If I can sell them for around 1,5g a piece this way I'll make the same profit anyways.
