Miniature models of your wow characters.
I think this is the best forum category for this type of post as it is "WoW-related and pertaining to subjects of shared interest",
if not please lock it and my apologies.
At any rate, this looked interesting enough to share.
The full story and some more relative links here.
Starting 11 december, an american company named figureprints claims to start shipping miniature figurines of your very own wow characters. Images in the bottom.
The site claims that they can make the 3D models based on your armory profile (Pray that it's updated).
Now, i'm not usually into the geek gear and toys, but this i could agree to buying for sure. And I don't think i'm the only one.
It seems legit, and endoresed by blizzard.
The colors are somewhat average, but that's to be expected if it's a fully automated process.
The printer they used is either the http://www.zcorp.com/Products/3D-Pri...155/spage.aspx, estimated value about $50.000 Or the $20.000 version, not sure.
Sadly i don't have such cash lying around myself.

Ah exellent.
I don't have sound on this computer so haven't been able to actually "hear" the demo movie myself yet.

Wow, that's really cool. I can see myself getting one of those things, although that really is geek extraordinaire. Pity they don't ship to Europe yet though

Wonder if they even support non-US wow. Would be nice to have a little Tanoh on my desk.
Edit: What I meant, they claim to pull the info from Blizzard themselves, maybe they just got a deal for the US servers and hence can't and/or aren't allowed to do it for EU and Asia.

I can't see it staying US only for very long. Demand is surely going to be high enough that it would be madness for them to keep it restricted. The only deterrence is price and for many I don't think that will be a major issue either (unless they do a 1 -> 1 conversion from $ to £ >.<).

I could see problems coming up when armory would bug out, causing it to not show some pieces of gear. This would only be a problem when the system would be automated, hopefully this won't be the case. Furthermore, I'd definetely buy one, although I would have to get some better gear first then though Oo

I don't think they're using the armoury as they can't get character model details or what gear you have in your bag from there. It says somewhere that Blizzard have given the direct access to character data or something to that effect.

How do you do that?
Our servers grab your latest character data from the Blizzard Armory, create a custom 3D model, and then let you pose it any way you like. Once you are happy with the way it looks you simply hit “Print” and our proprietary software prepares the model for printing. A trained artist gives your custom sculpture a final inspection before sending it electronically to our printing facility. From there your FigurePrints miniature is printed and shipped directly to your home.

Nice idea, but I wonder how good things like Paladin Season3 head will look.

Thanks Saeros, should have given the site a thorough read, but lacked the time to do so. If someone from EJ forums has/going to get one, mind posting a picture of it? Would like to see some more of it.

Any idea how it renders models with translucence, like [Apostle of Argus]?

As is the crossbow of the drarf in that first picture.
I'm not sure how floating items, such as headgear, or halos would end up being shown.
I'd guess the so called artist would add some support lines.
Weapon glows can't really be added either.

Regardless, these look amazing and REALLY add a since of imagination and collectability to something that has an infinite number of limited editions.

This looks awesome!
I'd love to get a model of June back pre-TBC, in her mix of Dragon- and Cryptstalker, with the crossbow of smiting, as opposed to her as she is atm, in mix of kara/t4 and horrid t5

Unless there are some more details hidden on their site that haven't been revealed yet, the deal as it seems is that you give them your character info straight off the armory. That means you don't get to pick your gear from a drop down list or anything like that. Which is a pity as I'm sure they'd get *tons* more business if JoeCasual could pick Sunwell gear for his model.

Will they apply shadowform to shadow priests? I personally don't plan on buying one of the models myself, but it would be interesting to see how that might look.

There is the possibility of equipping as much of my t3 as I can, every time I log out, though my t2 is, sadly, long gone.

Now the real question is can I get one of someone else. A full tier-3 rogue with warglaive's would look awfully nice and I do know someone with those items.

Subject: [Shipping] Europe ?
Hello,
being really interested in your products, I was wondering if you where planning to sell them outside of the United States, potentially at a higher shipping rate ?
Thanks in advance,

I sent them an email two days ago, and that's the reply I got. So it's "wait and see" for us european players :/.

You can probably do this, but since the character name is stamped on the base it will be fairly obvious that it's not your character to anybody that would care.
