Primal News Transmute [29/01/2008] (It shall be engraved upon your soul!)
Divine Assault: Nibelung Valesti!
Do you have any idea how many times I've heard that playing Valkyrie Profile?
Anyways, short post since I have midterms to study for. Like, an unending stream of midterms one a week.
Patch 2.4 information to be released

The BHO declares Mojopox Eradication Campaign complete
In a stunning display of Troll discrimination, Blizzard has removed the ability for our people to gift [Mojo] to others via intimate contact. Apparently all the Trolls outside Zul'aman have been sterilized of their [Mojo] and it is questionable as to whether any [Mojo] obtained in this manner will be kept or similarly removed from the population.
Update: Blizzard has decided to give a stay of execution on everyone's ill(?)-gotten [Mojo]. Long live the tusks and feet!
Blizzard finally decides to support WoW Tournaments

Does ESL have any plans to host more wow tournaments?
"Our first step will be an online tournament on an event realm that Blizzard is providing us with."
Since the public's response to the Dreamhack tournament was really positive we definitely plan to stick to WoW. One of the big goals that we have is to establish a 'pro'-scene, especially for European teams. The American scene is a lot more evolved right now with their small offline-tournaments on a regular basis, their infamous BG9 and their 'star-players' that actively write blogs and discuss strategies. The European scene is a lot more cluttered right now and only a handful of teams could prove their worth on a more international level. Our first step will be an online tournament on an event realm that Blizzard is providing us with. There is not set date for that yet but it's definitely going to happen quite soon.
An event realm, sounds interesting! Care to elaborate on that?
WoW does not have any kind of custom game option that you usually know from eSport-games and players are spread among dozens of servers. The only way to make sure that only those teams play against each other that you want to is to get them on a special server – an even realm. Those are regular servers but only visible to special accounts. Those accounts have all eight classes at level 70 and every character has thousands of gold and bags packed with all possible PvP-items to chose from. When the players are done with setting up both teams queue up at the same time, join the same arena and there is no risk of interfering.
|
It's kind of late since there have been some leagues trying to push WoW as a competitive game. However, the leagues have needed their own private servers for WoW for a long time now. Those of us who followed WSVG can remember quite a few debacles regarding talent specs, blacksmithing specialization, hunter pets and such.
SK Gaming
Random blue-coloured tidbits
Built in Outfitter/Itemrack and Threatmeter
These are planned features for WotLK, but haven't been started yet, so no promises.
|
I think people will be excited for this because this way, Threatmeter makers will finally be able to make mods that can actually measure threat. Also, Outfitter/Itemrack mods might take up less memory!
Oh, maybe someone will actually use the default versions of the mods too. Ok, maybe not.
Mal'ganis (Final boss of CoT : Culling of Stratholme)
Mal'ganis, an agent of the Burning Legion, was controlling the Lich King and in turn the Scourge. After Arthas had gone beyond the brink of sanity in trying to destroy the leader of the undead who had destroyed so much of his homeland, the Lich King told him to get his revenge and killed Mal'ganis.
|
Mmm yes, Mal'ganis, who was clearly just a pawn, will be much more powerful than any other Dreadlord to date.

Restriction of the amount of Death Knights on the same account
We still have awhile before we can say if there will be restrictions. Generally though, when something new comes out, people will flock to it. After a period of time, some will decide it's not what they want, that their guild needs something else or any other thing that will lead them away from playing a Death Knight exclusively. We plan to make sure the Death Knight balances in among all of the other classes.
Sunwell Plateau Gear
In Sunwell Plateau, you will be able to loot gear with higher bonuses than T6. The armors will look similars between classes, there will be multiple colors but no unique design for each class.
WotLK Naxxramas Tuning
As far as Naxxramas changes, our Lead Designer talked about this a bit in the past, a fight like Thaddius will be pretty much the same where a fight like the Four Horsemen will need a fair amount of changes.
Think of it like this, if a 40 person fight requires numerous people to be continuously rotating around and sharing debuffs and whatnot, when we remove 15 people from the raid group, we can't require the same number of people to rotate, so it has to be updated to fit accordingly. How exactly it will be changed is unknown, but I'm sure we'll find out eventually.
|
Yeah so we all called it, 2.5 Horsemen. We'll have Mograine, Blaumeux (or BLAMMO, in terms of what happens when a mouthbreather isn't paying attention) and Korth'azz (he's half a man already).
Rogue Stealth/Vanish breaking bug
The issue with Stealth and Vanish breaking 5 seconds after sapping or breaking stealth has been hotfixed last night, It may not take effect until individual realms are restarted.
|
Not to beat a dead horse, but yes, Vanish was broken again.
Black Bow of the Betrayer breaks Scatter Shot
This issue was briefly fixed but appears to be re-occurring, a new fix will be in a future patch.
|
You'd think that this issue would have been fixed years ago when we had the Black Grasp doing the exact same thing.
Eye of the Storm matches freeze and finish early on some Battlegroups
We are aware of the issues with Eye of the Storm Battleground on some battle groups, it is being investigated.
|
This is really just a sign that you shouldn't be playing this terrible battleground.
Haste effects do not apply the correct amount of casting/attack increase
Example: 20% haste only increases cast speed by 17%
The formula for haste effects is:
NEW_SPEED = OLD_SPEED / (1 + HASTE_PERCENT)
This can be a bit confusing, but it assures that no amount of +haste effects will result in zero or negative attack or cast speed.
|
I don't see why this needs to be reiterated again. The formula was described way back when they changed the way haste is displayed and it's not like theorycrafters everywhere haven't had to explain haste thousands of times in the WoW forums already.
Warp Splinter - Herbalism bug
It seems that you can't gather any plant from Warp Splinter in The Botanica, devs are looking into this issue.
Fozruk looting issues
There is a bug preventing most of the people in the group to loot Fozruk's corpse after his death, this is a known issue and it will be fixed in an upcoming patch.

Lifted straight off from the MMO-Champion front page (like most of this post), here's some WOTLK artwork from Peter Lee. You can find his personal concept art gallery here and his Sons of the Storm gallery here.
Everyone should own a DS by now
Get Advanced Wars: Days of Ruin. It's Advanced Wars with those silly COs toned down in power so there's less game breaking passive abilities. Also, it has WiFi support for online play with microphone support so you can yell at people who forgot they were playing a game and were just reading Wikipedia/watching TV while waiting on your turn. Also, new units, like the sexy, sexy (crop) Duster, Anti-Tank and Bike.
It also has hot hot Lin and Tasha as well as pimp Forsythe and, well, I guess Isabella and Tabitha if you're into that. If you can't tell, I like the art a lot.

Valkyrie Profile 2 is a great game. By the way shouldn't it read "It shall be engraved upon your very soul"
And err something about WoW.. here's hoping Sunwell actually has more than one piece of feral tanking gear (excluding tier pieces).

Dunno about Valkyrie Profile 2, but in 1 Lenneth definitely said:
It shall be engraved upon your soul!
YouTube - Valkyrie Profile finishing move: Valkyrie (Nibelung Valesti)
It was Dark Valkyrie(minor spoiler) Hrist that said:
"It shall be engraved upon your very soul!"

Here's the Valkyrie Profile 2 version, with bonus! Just because!

In reference to hour+ long WSG games not being fun:

Is it just me, or does this concern anyone else about how far off the expansion really is? Far off I had expected, but not even having started on some things that they will most definitely make feature bullet points makes it seem like it's really far off.

Yea, but it's not like the coding isn't there or something. I'd assume this will be one of their classic mod lifting techniques, like when they added in all the extra raid features and such. Not that it's a bad thing to add on to the base UI or anything though.

I wonder how extensive the built in threat meter will be. I am kind of expecting a red light green light type of thing.

To my knowledge, all they claimed was that they weren't going to be providing explicit threat numbers (it kind of goes against their UI principles). I wouldn't rule out something similar to the Omen bars, but without the numbers embedded in them.

No comments about the 8 hour arena match yet? Given that there was nearly 2 million damage dealt by each side, it looks like they actually did fight that long. The zero killing blows on the other side has me rather confused - even if the rogue was cycloned most of the time, I can't see the match lasting 8 hours like that 2v1 and otherwise I can't see the rogue doing that little damage.
But I don't know much about Arenas, so :/

It looked like the Warrior and Rogue both died early on and the Druid and Priest had a stubborn-off.
I would have quit after about 45 minutes, anything after that isn't worth 15 points.

I am not particularly concerned about that.
The message about that was from the UI Developer. Once the game is able to present information about threat to the client, it would be incredibly trivial to create a threat meter. Unlike current threatmeters that require synchronization with other players and approximation of threat as well as taking talents into account, aggro drops etc. This will just be a matter of taking a bar and filling it up X% based on threat numbers given by the game. Or else coloring something a shade between green and red based on the same criteria.

I imagine after killing the warrior, the rogue disconnected or perhaps even left the game thinking it was over. Either bad luck or a foolish mistake.

Healer vs. healer happens a lot when a rogue has cheat death go off and then manages to kill the warrior, or even from simultaneous killing blows.
That said, the screenshot has some very interesting features which suggest it may be a fake. Why would the healer recast buffs on themselves including shadow protection if fighting a druid who can not dispell? Why put up inner fire if you arent getting hit?
The priest had to heal themselves for an average of only 450 a minute, why not just rez the warrior if the druid is applying that little pressure?
Id suggest the easiest solution is that the screenshot is a fake and was done with a relatively simple addon that modified the end of arena message. If not that, then the fight was some sort of simulation with programmable keyboards. If not that, some people are really retarded.

All you have to do is cast rank one moonfire or cyclone to keep him from rezzing for the next 10 seconds or whatever it takes to get out of combat. Assuming they do start the rez, they could just get interrupted with .5 seconds left. Doesn't seem to be that outrageous to me.

I'm surprised it took them 3+ years and a second expansion to even plan for an official threat meter. When you're dealing with fights that require precise control of threat, it just strikes me as natural to help the players achieve that control without having to resort to 3rd-party addons.
Something like this should've been put in as early as BWL for Vael, or Naxx for Patchwerk at the latest. When you're constantly introducing fights that ask you to manage threat well, such as Gruul or Void Reaver, why is the community still relying on estimates and guesswork. Very accurate estimates and guesswork with a solid basis, to be sure, but guesswork nonetheless.
|
Mmm yes, Mal'ganis, who was clearly just a pawn, will be much more powerful than any other Dreadlord to date.
|
Keep in mind that Arthas needed the Frostmourne, one of the most powerful weapons in the game, before he was able to slay Mal'ganis. If the Lich King wanted Mal'ganis to die, it's not hard to believe he could make it easy for Arthas. The Lich King giveth, and the Lich King taketh away.
|
The priest had to heal themselves for an average of only 450 a minute, why not just rez the warrior if the druid is applying that little pressure?
|
It takes 10 seconds of no combat activity (no damage taken, no healing/buffs cast on a target in combat) to drop out of combat in PvP.
It takes 10 whole seconds to cast Resurrection (5 if you luck out with MSD)
It takes just one tick of damage (rank 1 Moonfire) to put you back into combat, canceling your Resurrection cast and starting the 10 second in-combat timer again.
It wouldn't be particularly difficult to keep a rezzer in combat.

Not to mention that he would have to start the rez immediately after leaving combat, and the other person would have to have not left to go to bed/school/work/a myriad of other things.

Theoretically you could hold 2vs2 arena hostage by organizing 400 people to just go idle in each arena from just one realm if they match up against each other. But who would ever do that?

I read about that arena shot somewhere. Basically what happened was the rogue got DCed shortly after the match started(hence the low damage), but the priest managed to finish off the warrior. So the rogue couldn't be ressed since getting disconnected boots you from the arena, and the rest is history. Stupid, stupid history. Eight hours...

Probably because combat res has a 20 minute cooldown, and anything over 15's not allowed in arenas.

Personally, I'm more perplexed by his choice of PvP gear (S1 staff, S2 wand, and 5-minute PvP trinket) and spec than his retarded decision to gem Enduring Talasites.
As a side note, Blizzard really needs to buckle down on Armory. Streamline the coding or turn it into a porn site, but at least make the loading times more reasonable so that Firefox doesn't keep freezing for long periods of time if I try accessing a profile after 4PM. -,-
