I'm actually kind of happy about this, I don't have to run Heroic SV over and over again to get 2 more of them, I can just buy some Nightseye instead
This. As powerful as the old gem was, I don't relish the thought of farming SV to take advantage of the unique-equipped lifting.

You would run heroics for badges/dailies anyway so you'd get the gem eventually in those runs without any additional time cost. Obviously, if you never run heroics, then this does not apply to you but I think it does for most of us.

Really a sad change this.

Looks like the developers got tired of waiting for the next stage of the new town to open up; the harbor is now open.

A new daily to open up an alchemy lab, with interesting flavor text suggesting that they're adding alchemical gem transmutes.

Don't know if this is for Transmute: Skyfire Diamond / Earthstorm Diamond but the spell seems to be new:

Thottbot World of Warcraft: Transmute Gems

Transmute Gems (Alchemy Passive)
Instant 1.38e+03 min cooldown
Able to perform one Gem transmutation every 23 hours.

I hope this works for epic gems as well, finally a use for the billions of Lionseyes Unfortunately I unlearned Alchemy a few weeks ago...

There's also a Transmute Elementals and Transmute Metals that appears to be new and similar. Texts insinuate that those cooldowns are not linked, probably similar to how the Tailoring speciality cloths work.

I also expect them to add the epic gem JC designs to that vendor as reputation rewards for Shattered Sun, so that the patterns wouldn't be only bound to Scales of the Sands reputation.

The sentence "gems that were thought to be lost in time." from the flavor text suggests that too.

a quick question for those playing more often on the PTR than me: Is it possible to use the demonic gate from Isle of QD to Kazzak more than once? And how?

I mean I can obviously always go via Shattrath->Hellfire Peninsula-> Kazzak, but this ability would be nice. Especially as the Shattrath <-> Isle portal isn't open yet on EU-PVE.

Can't really understand the complaints about the [Shifting Tanzanite] change, it was a mistake that they have rectified. Purple gems should be red + blue, not red + red.

Gem transmute would be nice, if transmute 2 purple gem into 1-1 red and blue, 2 orange -> 1-1 red and yellow, 2 green -> 1-1 blue and yellow; 1-1 red and blue -> 2 purple ...

I fervently hope that Lake Wintergrasp ends up like Halaa - ie, it's fun for a few weeks, and then everyone forgets about it. I already spend plenty of time raiding for gear, I don't want to have to spend even more time doing Arenas and Battlegrounds for another entire set of gear. Is it planned to be part of the levelling progression? (ie, will it be efficient to quest here to get to 80?)

With the buffs we're talking about, a Warlock would have to stand and nuke for about 2 minutes straight before life tap comes into play. 1000 total mana one way or another doesn't drastically change that time when we're between 9 and 10k mana pools already.

We are still working on the armory on the EU realms, 53% done on the PvE and 28% done on the PvP. The effort to do the dailies seems to have considerably lowered since most people don't seem to want to bother with the dailies multiple times on PTR. Would be nice if we could get some help with the progress as well, or if we could actually play on the US PTRs as well and help there, like the original idea seemed to be.

You aren't missing much. The new Harbor dailies involve taming a ravager to dig up roots (much like in Blueleaf Tubers - Quests - World of Warcraft) and breaking the Nagas' control over the murlocs using (gasp!) an item dropped by the Naga. The Harbor itself has an innkeeper, stable master, mailbox, and the aforementioned alchemist who offers the ravager daily.

Just out of curiousity, is there another area to open up after the harbor and if there is, what is it?

From what I've seen, the harbor appears to be it. There are areas like Dawnstar Village that still have hostile mobs, but those probably exist so the dailies can still be completed after the region has been retaken.

Not sure if that nessecarily solves anything. Although it would seem more logical, Reds are by far the rarest and most sought after yet greens [Seaspray Emerald] are the most common and underused gem, so not being able to split the green into a blue and yellow, both themselves pretty abundant, doesn't really go towards helping that much.

The problem is that the coloured part of the gem defines its stat. As a result, the red gems which primarily have raw class stats (spell dmg, healing, agility, strength, ap) and any hybrid gem that encompasses red (purple and orange) are already rare because people stray to them for their part red attributes. [Pyrestone] provides hit rating, crit rating, spell hit to name a few, so these are rare as a lot of classes want them to use their red and yellow attributes together (crit/str, hit/agi, sp.hit/dmg). The purple ones are slightly more available as many classes don't care for their common combination of offense stat/stamina which wastes budget from min maxing on stamina which may not be needed. [Royal Shadowsong Amethyst] is a very popular item however, as can be [Shifting Shadowsong Amethyst].

The point is that these gems are in demand because of their Red attributes. Simply allowing you to split coloured gems into their base components won't really do much as the abundant gems (green) split into blue and yellow which aren't very desirable at all for the most part (15 stamina and 10 resilience being the obvious exceptions).

Suspending logic and allowing direct gem transmutations would be a more benficial idea for raiding guilds, even if it didn't make that much sense.

Eg:
Transmute: [Seaspray Emerald] <-> [Crimson Spinel] (blue/green <-> Red)
Transmute: [Shadowsong Amethyst] <-> [Lionseye] (blue/red <-> Yellow)
Transmute: [Pyrestone] <-> [Empyrean Sapphire] (green/red <-> blue)

There is some continuity there, you are splitting a gem comprised of two of the tree colours into the third one not present in its makeup. I'm sure an alchemic reason could be written to make more sense of it (like you use a reverse polarity on your philosophers stone ) but it would be much better. It allows guilds to dump their seasprays, lionseyes and sapphires into actual useful raid gems and with a 24 hour cooldown and alchemists dropping their proffessions a lot recently, people wouldn't exactly be mass producing them.

The bear boss in ZA is sort of like this, except that because it's a ten-man you're often missing one buff or debuff or another.

I wonder, if there'll really be gem transmutes, will they make use of transmute spec? Also the separation of elemental, metal and gem transmute CDs would be a great improvement.

And the random charge/knockback, and the AOE silence.

There really isn't an "ideal" fight at the moment in TBC for benchmark DPS.

Most likely, cause as it is atm, transmute spec is pretty bad. This would be great change.

Can someone who is Exalted with the Shattered Sun Offensive go to the top of Sun Reach's Harbor and see if Anchorite Kairthos will talk to them? He gives out the quest A Magnanimous Benefactor - Quests - World of Warcraft and the A Charitable Donation - Quests - World of Warcraft person is already up (and 25% done!) so I'm wondering if it's because of my rep of if something else needs to be done.

Do not think so. It will be probably lvl80 world-pvp zone. Probably something like AV, non-instanced (or not limited by number of people) with siege weapons.
