I'm going to be reporting every post I see that has stupid unfounded speculation about possible drop locations for Essence of the Immortals. Like the last three.
'War' is too small a word for what I'm fighting. Like a candle in front of the whole burning Sun. Now, I am not going to die today. I have other projects, and other options.
Here's an example of Lacerate's dmg on the PTR. I didn't bother customizing the new combat log, so its kinda ugly, but you can see the numbers. That dot is with 5 stacks BUT without the mangle debuff. I just couldn't get the mangle debuff on one as well as getting lacerate to five stacks without killing the mob (lacerate turning on autoattack ftl). As it is I had to lacerate then turn before I swung at the mob. So, anyways:
So, so far we know or can reasonably assume the following:
New T6 tokens for belt/boots/bracers drop in Sunwell. The T6 sets remain with 2pc/4pc bonuses. The new T6 items are ilvl 154.
New item drops from Sunwell appear to be ilvl 159-164 despite having the armor values of ilvl 141 items.
Many of these new loot pieces can be exchanged with a [Sunmote] for another piece of the same kind but differing function -- i.e. exchange healing cloth chest for dps caster chest. This is a new mode of "tokenizing" loot.
Almost all of the new loot has 2-3 sockets each. All the new Tier 6 pieces have 1 socket each in belt/bracers/boots.
New engineering helms can be upgraded with 4 Primal Nethers, 4 other Primals, and some extra mats. The new hats are Tier 6 quality.
There are new Jewelcrafting, Blacksmithing, Tailoring, and Leatherworking patterns. The BoP items are all made from Sunmote-less mats. The BoE versions are all made from Sunmotes + other materials. We assume that all these patterns drop in Sunwell and are analogous to the T5/T6 crafting recipes in this way.
All of the new crafting patterns appear to kick major ass. Gratz on keeping your profession instead of taking enchanting.
The new Badge of Justice vendor with the alleged Tier-6-quality weapons does not yet appear to exist. Drysc is a tease.
There are a few dailies on Sunwell Isle that grant reputation with the Shattered Sun Offensive.
Killing Kael'thas in the Magister's Terrace on Normal Mode lets you finish the quest to unlock Heroic mode and gets
you a free Crimson Spinel.
Magister's Terrace bosses drop epic items on Normal Mode!
In the Sunwell 25-man, a corrupted Kalecgos appears to be the first boss. Brutallus, the cyborg-like Pit Lord, appears to be the second.
The Agamath Gate prevents further passage into the instance, but a quest demands that one retrieve [Essence of the Immortals] to help dismantle the gate. The Essence is an epic drop, location unknown. From "the most powerful beings of this world" according to the quest text.
The For Great Honor quest returns! Nations rejoice! You can turn in one of each BG token for 314 honor.
There are two new spellhaste cloaks from the normal Badge of Justice vendor in Shattrath.
Muru, the Naaru from whom the Blood Elves of Silvermoon were previously draining their paladinly powers, is now in the Sunwell and absent from Silvermoon.
Lady Liadrin, the general of the Blood Knights, comes to Shattrath to speak to A'dal about their plight. He forgives her and notes that Muru and the fate of the Blood Elves was foretold by Velen, the Draenei prophet and was known to him and Muru before he was captured. She pledges the allegiance of the Blood Knights to the Shattered Sun Offensive.
The new blue PvP sets are similar to the old GM/HWL level 70 blue sets and can be bought for a very low gold cost from Outland reputation vendors at Honored and Revered levels (KoT, Thrallmar/HH, Cenarion, Lower City, Sha'tar.)
The expansion of the forward Shattered Sun base seems to revolve around regaining control of the various arcane sentinels wandering the island.
Oh yeah the legendary bow. It's a major PvE boost to Steady Shot damage, doesn't take arrows, frees up a bag slot,
and is otherwise the same DPS as an ilvl 151 bow + Timeless Arrows.
Did I miss anything?
Gonna shamelessly copy this in the OP, it's a pretty good overview.
[*]The new Badge of Justice vendor with the alleged Tier-6-quality weapons does not yet appear to exist. Drysc is a tease.
You know, that actually gives me an idea.
Unlocking bosses via the Shattered Sun is a lot like the War Effort from AQ40. While I enjoyed the event, there was a lot of complaints about it. One in particular was that the effort allowed progressed guilds to go and get their shiny new epics, while the rest got squat (rep, greens, and unlocking the grind bonanza that was Cenarion tasks aren't very compelling). So, what if the vendor appears after someone killing Kil'Jaeden? Wouldn't that be great for tying top raiders' and the less progressed/non-raiders' interests?
It could also be done for other bosses, say you turn in the verdant sphere from Kael and G'eras opens a new cache in celebration.
Does anyone else have problems inspecting people on the PTR? I'm able to inspect myself and the millions of other level 1 Priests and Paladins, but when I inspect the few level 70's that are there I get no tool tips for their items.
I don't believe Ive seen anyone discuss the intellect/spirit changes, so, here are some comparable screenshots between live/ptr. Ignore my meh healing gear.
Suffice is to say that, imo, for priests and druids, spirit now owns mp5. A lot.
Worth noting the tooltip for intellect is unchanged. It does say how much it increases the effects of spirit by, or any such thing.
This is what having a lot of free time does to me:
I decided to look you up in the armory, and by luck you were wearing the same gear as in your screenshots, and decided to run some rough numbers on your mana regen to figure out how much your SPR regen was affected by your intellect:
First things first: How much of your mana regen is from mana per 5 gear? 111
111, keep this in mind, as this is your static mana regen that comes purely from your "mana every 5 seconds" gear, everything else past this is your SPR regen.
On live:
Mana while NOT CASTING: 363 (Gear accounts for 111, SPR accounts for 252)
Mana while CASTING: 187 (Gear accounts for 111, SPR accounts for 75) (as expected, 30% of your SPRregen)
On PTR:
Mana while NOT CASTING: 554 (Gear accounts for 111, SPR accounts for 442) (!)
Mana while CASTING: 244 (Gear accounts for 111, SPR accounts for 132) (!)
SPR contribution to your mana regeneration was increased by roughly 76% at 605 intellect. Each point of intellect increased your SPR based regen by 0.1256% (cutting it at only 4 digits).
Obviously the rate of increase of SPR based on INT is probably wrong, as we can't know right now if Blizzard assumes a certain amount of INT to start with, much like on INT:Spellcrit ratios, and further on, the above only really works for druids, whose SPRregen formula is SPR/4.5 + 15, but still, I just wanted to get something going on the Theorycrafting side of things.
If anyone with a caster character on the PTR could please post Live/PTR comparisons of your mana regen, please, we could get further into this to see how much of a difference it actually is.
WowDB (Essence of the Immortals - Items - WOWDB) lists the Essence of the Immortals as stacking 100 per Slot. So its safe to assume that they will drop in large quantities from a wipder range of bosses. Reminds me of the Ancient Qu'raij Artifacts.

From the BB (since I did a lot of editing it over the course of a couple of hours and I don't like to post halfbaked stuff in the pubbie forums, note- I took out the quote function since it looked obnoxious and fixed a few spelling errors):
Well the first thing I noticed about my regen, upon inspection, is that they refunded all of my talent points. (Because, WTF at 90m/5 in 5SR) All with no talents involved.
First set, normal gear, swapped belts (no regen stats on either belt)
544int | 337spi | 456m/5o5sr | 90i5sr
547int | 337spi | 457m/5o5rs | 90i5sr
Second Set, Hat/Neck/Chest/Bracer/Belt/Trinkets All have two pieces- both without regen stats and differing int.
Assumed: 285 spi, 51m/5 in combat.
Looks like it's a direct relation rather than a function although I'd need more data to be certain.
(E) direct scalar, less complicated function. I'm not a math student but I live with a guy who can't help but correct me. I assume the graph makes up for my inability to coherently explain math concepts in crystal clear terms.
-------------
It's hard to say- since on Test I didn't spend any talent points. I lack meditation & SoR on the numbers I posted earlier.
That said, my live stats in standard gear are
341m/5 out of 5SR
165m/5 inside 5SR
with 353 spirit and 544 int.
On PTR ***Without SoR/Meditation*** same gear
544int | 337spi | 456m/5o5sr | 90i5sr
That's nuts. I hadn't really paid it much attention (especially since my 5SR regen was so low due to not having meditation). Meditation should add in an additional 136m/5 (456*.3) and so crank that up to 226m/5 on PTR- not including the 5% spirit buff from SoR.
89m/5 buff out of 5SR and a 61m/5 in5sr buff? My gear is a little worse than the person you're quoting. They're probably wearing more stat heavy T6. That's still nuts.

Thanks for the information, Bekah, I butchered the quote so it didn't turn into a wall of text. I realize this is all too preliminary, but your findings pointing it towards direct scaling rather than a complex function are really helpful. If things stay this way, it will certainly put a spin on Intellect as a stat and on consumables.
Sidetrack: Good to see you alive and kicking, Bekah, been a while.

Certainly looks linear and also looks like a buff across the board from my end of it- although since I'm in half T6 and don't have a lot of extra gear in my bank- it's hard to tell. I also haven't had a chance to transfer my mage or harass my husband about his warlock to test other class changes. It seems they just slapped a small positive modifier based on total int onto the spirit regen model and called it good.

Bekah, would it be possible to evaluate at what number of intellect spirit starts becoming superior to mp5 in terms of gemming? Im spam gemmed with 11 heal 2mp5 like most priests currently, and im wondering wether replacing those with heal/spirit gems once the patch hits.

Honestly, I'm waiting like everyone else for someone math savvy to put the points on a graph into a usable formula. I might try it later today but I'm just as likely to go out to a movie on my raid free night of the week as to putter around on the PTR trolling for data points. =)
Once we've got a formula down, it becomes a fairly simple matter of graphing a pair of functions and finding the point where Int becomes better. Sadly, while I'm great at collecting data and identifying trends (Hrm... looks like a sheep... baas like a sheep... smells like a sheep) I'm not very great at graphing functions. =(
Give it a couple more days for folks to really get a grip on how the change is going to work and to make sure Blizzard doesn't change the rules with the next few mini patches- then start considering heal/int gems.

100 SPI is equal to 42.5 mp5 (in terms of item budget). For a priest, 100 SPI is 62.5 mp5 while casting. So, at 68% of mana regenerated while casting, SPI is equal to mp5, given no other talent modifiers. So you need to figure out what level of INT equates to 68% in-combat regen, or 38% with the 30% while-casting talent.
Out of interest, is it possible to test whether the spirit/int correlation is related to intellect or total mana pool?
I know a blizzard blue stated intellect, but to some folks they're the same thing. I'm mostly thinking about things like the 10% maximum mana pool talent that Discipline Priests have - this does not modify your intellect at all, but does give you 10% high pool. Could it be that spirit is now percentage based restoration of total mana, rather than being based explicitly on a formula involving your intellect? If so, would a Disc Priest with 10% more mana also be getting a flat 10% spirit regen on top of that?
Shadowed and I are going to run some tests and see if we can find the precise relationship between int and spirit. Back in an hour; I'll edit this post then.
Just some info about the new dailies i was able to do.
Shattrath Dailies:
1) From Draenei commander near the ramp leading to Horde Battlemasters: Was sent to Nagrand, to the Spirit Fields, where i had to equip some goggles and take readings of 6 red clouds. Extremely easy, reward was 10g and Shattered Sun Care package.
2) Daily from Blood Elf commander near the ramp leading to the Arrakoa area in Shattrath, sent to Netherstorm to collect Sunfury Attack Plans, quest text indicates it can drop from any Sunfury blood elf in Netherstorm. Reward was Shattered Sun Care package.
3) Another, which I did not do, was from human emmisary next to that blood elf, which involved getting 8 essense form recourse gathering in Outland, reward was gold and 2 Rejuv pots.
Sunwell Dailies:
1) Upon arriving, was given a daily to kill some of the Wretched to gather mana essense and use it to power any of the nearby defense crystals.
2) Another daily was to defeat then reactivate 3 setinels and move them to the Shattered Sun outpost.
Questline starts there to find a Legion portal and take it to find a Magister operative. This teleports you to Kil'jadens Seat, the area NE of Thrallmar in Hellfire. The person there has 2 dailies to do alos.
First was to kill fire elementals nearby to power a fire spark and use it to damage the portal.
Second was to kill nearby demons for their blood, then use the blood to drain the fel-infused blood elves and kill them.
Various info for Sunwell area itself:
Appears the first offensive is to secure the immediate area from the Wretched. There is a small village that is occupied by Kael'thalas allied elves and another area controlled by Legion demons. Likely that the next offenses will be against those 2 areas.
The outer shore has areas patrolled by undead and also a small murloc village under control by naga.
If you make it to the south end of the island, you can head up through the Dead Scar, lots of demons fighting undead and eventually you reach an invisable wall. Behind it is Brutalis and a friendly blue dragon (not Kalegos) that is flying above the area.
The Shattered Sun care packages have a guarenteed level 65-70 green. I also got a Badge of Justice from one care package, leading me to think that it is may be a rare reward, similar to how the AQ40 packages sometimes had BoE blues.
Thats all I can say form what I was able to do, will try and check on more when I can.
Shadowed and I are going to run some tests and see if we can find the precise relationship between int and spirit. Back in an hour; I'll edit this post then.
The closest fit I was able to get to Bekah's data was this: Mp5 from spirit, outside casting rule = (sqrt(Int)/21,45)*Spi
Can anyone with different Int/Spi numbers on the PTR test this?
edit: (sqrt(Int)/21,45)*Spi seems to be an even closer fit to most values posted here (instead of 21,5).
