This looks really cool, hopping on the eu-english train as well

What a man had to go through for a piece of ass in the modern age was highly ridiculous.

It would be further usable if the tool parsed consistently with general terms for progression. For example, searching for abbreviations, (SSC, TK, tier 4, etc), progressions (3/4, 5/6, farm, etc) are some places you can further filter your results. You could use the same logic you utilized with the idiot filter, perhaps.

Since not everyone is as willy nilly about server transfers as some, it might be useful to either parse the post or check the posting character's server to get a server name. If you wanted to get really fancy, (and the armory was working properly) you could check someone's rep levels or gear to see their attunement/keying level (although this might be an anachronism in 2.4).

Sorry if these suggestions were already addressed, I admit I didn't read much past the first post.

Two features just went live. WoW Lemmings now includes the WoW Europe (English) forums during its collection process. Additionally, if it finds an armory link in the body of the post, it will capture the link and add it to a new column which you should see displayed as [A], for quick linking and viewing.

As expected, you can filter on Region now, and that filter will carry through into the RSS feed. For the RSS geeks, I've updated the <source> element to refer to the proper forums, based on region.

It would be cool if you came up with a title or first line of post text format rule for people who want to be picked up wowlemmings and provide more information. The more people who know about it, the more likely people are to follow that format and get better results. The extra formatting could include desired timezones, raid experience, etc. Also it would be cool if for multi-class posts you split the color box into multiple stripes representing all the class colors.

Edit: example of formatting

First line of post might be something like:

Horde|PvE|EST|Priest|Shadow|Tier6

Something simple but provides more info than is usually provided in the title.

Yep, this has been requested several times and is also on the to-do list. I think I'll probably put up a FAQ page which lists ways to improve the chances of your posting getting picked up and being scored appropriately.

[edit]

The FAQ is now online, which should handle the majority of questions regarding formatting and such.

Slightly off topic, but this seemed like a good place to post my question.

I have never personally recruited off server before to fill any raid positions, however recently I have become rather dismayed at ever finding a competent available Shadow Priest for my raid alliance and am thinking about turning to off server choices if I can find any.

I know the places to look to find a recruit, I am actually more interested in advice on how to go about interviewing and testing out an application from another server. Assuming I can find someone that is interested is there any SOP, or a standard social contract that governs the way recruitment from off server should be handled?

I feel kinda stupid asking a question like this, but I would rather look stupid before I start sifting through pages of folks looking for a raid, than mid app with them.

Quick update, folks: Tidied up a few more issues over the weekend and have added month-end statistics to the left-hand column if you are curious as to what kind of people are LFG.

An in-depth discussion would probably be better suited to another thread, but a short version would be:

-make sure that you and the applicant match up in terms of rules/raid times/expectations, even if it seems you do from their post. I have gotten to the end of interviews before someone realized that what they THOUGHT was 7:30 EST was actually 8:30.
-make sure that their attitude and your atmosphere mesh.
-make sure they are clear on what the probationary process (if any) would entail

I also find applicants appreciate it if you allow them to sit in vent and listen to a raid (if the interview has gone well or they look promising), and this is generally a good idea from your perspective as well--if they wouldn't be happy with you, you don't really want them!

For the sake of those of us in off-hour guilds, would it be also possible to request parsing for 'special' timezones?
e.g. Oceanic, GMT+8 (the two most popular subsets I know of for Oceanic realms/guilds)

Keep in mind I'll only be able to key off of what people put in their post titles, so I have to step back and look at the most commonly used terms and try to build functionality off of that.

What do you feel would be the most intuitive solution for your personal searches? Perhaps a new column labeled "Time Zone" that gives you choices like PST, MST, CST, EST, Oceanic? I don't think I recall seeing a post with an exact GMT adjustment in a title (such as your aforementioned GMT+8 example).

What about European time zones? What's the common consensus for EU players?

For Europeans time-zones (generally) shouldn't be an issue. Most of Europe's on the same time zone, which is also conveniently the time zone of the server, with some people being one hour behind of that and others being one hour ahead. A very small group of people might be two hours ahead of server time, but I've seen that on very few people.

This is an incredibly useful tool and I am delighted to have discovered it. Would it be possible to implement a flagging system? I look through so many LFG threads per day, I'm either reading the same lackluster ones over again or I lose track of ones that could have been promising.

I'm doing the best I can to push my guild through the 1/6 recruitment slump and I can say with confidence that this has been the most challenging "encounter" I have experienced in the game thus far. I wish the Brutallus Recruitment Hump thread had been allowed to flourish, as this is a topic I feel deserves much in the way of discussion.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I'll add flagging to my to-do list.

Yes please. I like the tool, but if you could parse the title and/or text for the words "Oceanic" or "Australian/Aussie" or any of the other words used to denote Oceanic player base.

Apart from that, nice job.

I just downloaded the tool and tried it out. It looks very promising. I came up with quite a few results that would have taken me normally hours to find. My only suggestion is to add some sort of keyword input, so that you can input in your own key words or phrases that you want to search for.

This tool looks quite useful, and I was happy to find myself at the top of the list with all filters on

A few suggestions:
  • Correct armory links could be scrubbed from the playername with a simple sanity check to filter alts (level 70).
  • A spec icon for classes, should be based on what they say since armory might have PvP specs or other nonsense. Keywords in the title are dead giveaways, but more in depth searches in the body can do the job too. For example a paladin who has "0/4*/1*" in his post and no other "*/*/*" match is definitely a prot paladin, but if he also has "4*/*/*" he gets icons for both Prot and Holy. If the parser can't figure out the spec a filtered search still shows them.
  • Progression, through reputations would be pretty effective. If they're exalted with BT+Hyjal they get purple, sub-exalted get blue, don't have post-quest rep with them get green. Maybe if they have Sunwell or an acronym thereof anywhere in their title they get orange instead of purple.
  • Title reformatting to strip out [PvP] and [A] (which is superfluous now anyway).
  • Clickable filter headers

All in all it would be a beautiful thing to see widespread guild recruitment that doesn't involve pages of Bump! Bump! Bump!

Just to chime in: Great tool. I lead a late night guild and pour over up to 20-30 pages of threads a night, looking for anything "late night" in the subject, but often clicking any thread with a class that is high need.

So if you can add in a key word type function, I thank you much in advance.

Sorry for the delay in updating, but this feature is now live. There is a icon/mark to the left of every listing, which you can cycle through (Unknown, Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down), and it will remember your own personal decisions.

It is not a mechanism to publicly rank players; the information you submit is purely of a personal preference, and no other visitor sees what choice you make (for web nerds: it's all cookie based). Hopefully, it will help you keep track of people you have already seen.

I'll be going through my to-do list items over the next several weeks, so expect a few more changes/enhancements, including adding a keyword filter/search, the auto-pruning of dead links, and highlighting listings with additional info (ie exact server match/unable to transfer to your server, based on your preferences).

Guess I should probably start adding support for Death Knights...

Do you mean you'd like to see EU realms only? That feature already exists, simply set the region to "Europe" in the filters and re-scan.

If you mean something else, please clarify.

Do you plan on adding a localized version to non English realms?
As good as this tool may be, it is almost utterly useless for other than English speaking realms. When all of the guild is speaking one language, adding a non-native speaker is not a good idea.

In case you plan to do so and need some translation for German, just let me know.
Some that might already help you:

Druid - Druide (Dudu as a more or less accepted abbreviation)
Hunter - Jäger
Mage - Magier
Rogue - Schurke
Paladin - Paladin (Pala)
Priest - Priester
Shaman - Schamane (Schami, Shami)
Warlock - Hexenmeister (Hexer)
Warrior - Krieger (Warri)

Holy: Holy, Heilig
Heal: Heal, Heil
Shadow: Shadow, Schatten
Protection: Def, Prot, Tank

(to) search: suchen
xyz searching for / looking for: xyz sucht
guild: Gilde

+all English words and abbreviations

Item Ranking Rogue [horribly outdated]

Localization will be some pretty big shoes to fill, but I'm not above doing it if I have the resources (of fine people like you) to provide translations.
