Is there a way I'm not aware of to download an updated itemcache for the latest revision? I try to place the one from (2.0.7?) in the right spot, but Rawr says it's from an old version and won't use it. Do I just need to re-update from Arm/WH, and it will be fine? Or do I need to get a whole new file?

Nope, the latest version in source control is entirely backwards incompatible with previous versions, for ItemCache, Characters, and most other data files. I'll be posting a new set of default data files soon (later today, hopefully within a couple hours), but until then, just load your character from the armory, load potential upgrades from the armory, then refresh your itemcache from Wowhead (since Armory still doesn't return socket bonuses, grr).

Hmm. Did that, it's not returning any upgrades. Well, it's not populating the list. It does go through the process correctly, and they show up in the cache (I can see them with Tools->Edit items), but I still only see the equipment I was wearing when I loaded my character in the comparison lists.

Oh, Moonkin just doesn't have any default gemming templates yet. Sorry, forgot that part. Tools > Set Default Gems, add a few custom ones. Look at Cat/Bear for an example of what will be there by default in each model.

Is there any way to ensure Rawr runs faster? A lot of the time I'm waiting for changes to refresh for minutes at a time while I watch my processor usage sit at 0-3%. It took me about 5 minutes to simply open the program just now (that was a first, must have been something I did there).
Is this a common problem? Is it because I'm using Vista? I just figure things should be fast on my system, but Rawr doesn't seem to actively use any resources.

Sounds like you've got some other problem. Rawr runs fine on Vista, so that's probably not it. Some sort of really strong virus protection or something? Is something else using up much processor usage?

Just a note, I had to exit and reload Rawr to get new gems to show up in the comparison lists (including the default gemming panel). I assume that's not intended behavior, though since all gems should be included in the release I don't imagine it's a huge issue.

On that note, the beta will also have a entirely rewritten Retribution model. Would love some testing to see if there are any bugs I missed, before the release goes out.

I added a couple this morning, but apparently they're not enabled by default. Or something. You should see them in Tools->Set Default Gems from the latest source code or in the beta.

I've been able to load my saved character files from version to version without any problems.

Well, I'm hoping character files will be backwards compatible in the end, but I didn't want to get anyone's hopes up, if it wasn't gunna happen.

I find purging the itemcache helps increase performance greatly for me. I wrote a quick script that just removes any items below ilevel 200 (and some other filters), that alone takes 20k+ of the nearly 30k items in the cache. If you know how to manipulate xml, you can whip up your own in 10 minutes.
*Disclaimer: Note that butchering these files on your own is not supported/endorsed by the dev team, and do so at your own risk.

Oh, that's a good thing to mention. The new default item cache for the next version has about 2200 items in it, and is 14% the size of the old one.

I seem to have fixed much of the problem. I was running Rawr straight off of the desktop. I moved it into the Users/Games folder. That, and I finally got rid of all the extraneous gems (without accidently screwing something ELSE up). Somewhere between those two changes, it seems to have sped up considerably.
It was just that a lot of the time when it should have been "thinking" my computer reported no CPU or increased memory usage. Could simply be something beyond the scope of Rawr, as I notice several programs tend to do this.
Moral of the story: I'm pretty sure it's bad to run stuff off of the desktop

It would be nice if the Model would also be saved. Currently I saved my Bear, Cat and Moonkin gear in seperate files. It's really annoying to change the Model manually each time.
