If the number increases the tank will live longer , decreases and its shorter. I would definatly however like to see a threat portion added in conjunction with survivability to find good hybrid sets. Admittadly im a druid and threat is almost never an issue, but its always fun to optimize.

I agree, Tank Points is another way to evaluate the gear piece by piece, however it isn't an end-all. I am not trying to turn this into a theorycrafting thread, so I will post in one of the other tanking threads, but basically, Tank Points can't tell you how much healing per second you will need to survive under a given boss, and if that is too much to ask or not. It is an excellent gauge if one piece is better than another, but not if your collected gear is up to the task. There is no "You need x,xxx Tank Points to tank this boss." It also is from the perspective of 1 type of fight. Changing the type of fight, and customing your gear selection to match, Tank Points loses it's hard and true value. For example, I imagine the best possible gear selection for Illidian, Kael, Boodboil, Azgalore, and Archimond have different Tank Points values, simply because most tanks will swap in different gear for each of those fights, even if only a piece or two.

I think a Time to Die still has value, if anyone wants to include it, let me know.

Rawr does not include Tank Points specifically. It does already include Mitigation Rating which is exactly proportional to Time to Die, so Time to Die is not necessary.

Listening: Yes.
Able to code in C# or .Net: No.

That's why I put a link into the ele thread for this. If someone can do the coding, I can help on the mathy theorycrafty side of things.

Well, I installed Mono for OS X, the native version that uses X11 for its Windows.Forms stuff, it though it could open Rawr

Got as far as the Rawr icon in the Dock, I'll play with the code tonight and see if I can figure out the issues...

otherwise I guess I can fire up the windows machine.

Astrylian - your latest version of rawr is unable to locate a lot of items on wowhead, it keeps complaining that the item IDs don't exist.

Just as a data point, I found the results of this to be pretty bizarre until I deleted all the cache files, filled in my stats/buffs, and reloaded upgrades from the Armory. It would say things like T6 helm is worse than T4, and use a lot of awful gems like +8 int. But clearing out the caches and starting from scratch gave better results.

Also, when it chooses gems to socket, does it try to optimize DPS or just always go for socket bonus? For example, I am finding that Rawr thinks [Cowl of the Grand Engineer] is ~3000 points worse than [Collar of the Aldor]. But it's also socketing the VR helm with two +8 hit gems and one stam/dmg gem, which would push me way over the hit cap and waste a lot of stat points as compared to just using three +9 damage gems. I'd humbly suggest that the gem picking code could use another look.

I just DL'd Rawr b11 and Rawr.mage, and I'm getting a time-out on the loading screen, and a string of error boxes popping up saying they are unable to access image files from the Armory. I'm guessing this may have something to do with the fact that Armory also seems to be timing out for me at the moment.

Here's an example of one of the error boxes (they all look like this for the most part, just different .jpg files aren't being accessed):

Rawr encountered an error getting Image from Armory: C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\Rawr b11\images\inv_staff_54.jpg. Please copy and paste this into an email to cnervig@hotmail.com. Thanks!

If you're unable to load items/characters from the Armory, check and make sure the Armory is actually working first. I've found that very annoying during my development, but nevertheless, there isn't much we can do about it.

Yeah, I did a freshie reinstall of Rawr b11 and made sure Armory was loading. It was still a little farty but I managed to get everything working after updating the itemcache.

Worked just fine until I installed Rawr.mage, when I got this error after I loaded my character in from Armory:
